1 R E L E A S E N O T E S Waters 2707 Autosampler ICS v1.20 Installer Read these release notes before you install and operate the Waters 2707 autosampler instrument control software (ICS). Data system requirements To ensure proper operation with the Waters 2707 autosampler, your data system must meet the requirements in the table below. 2 Installing Waters 2707 autosampler software The instrument driver installer, which appears in the language appropriate to the workstation settings, automatically detects compatible software packages and installs the support appropriate to the configuration. The software is installed in C:\Empower\Instruments. Requirement: You must uninstall any previously installed version of this software before you can install this version. To install Waters 2707 autosampler software: 1. Uninstall any previous version of this software using Add/Remove Programs. 2. Exit all applications, and restart the computer. 3. Insert the Waters 2707 Autosampler ICS CD in the PC s CD-ROM drive and run Setup.exe. 4. Select Install or Upgrade software support for one or more instruments, and then click Next. 5. Select Waters 2707 autosampler, and then click Next. 6. Click Yes, and wait for the installation to complete. 7. Click Finish. 8. Restart the computer. Installing firmware updates When a Waters 2707 autosampler is used in conjunction with Waters 1500 series pumps or with a Waters 2475 fluorescence detector connected via Ethernet to the local area network (LAN), you must update the instrument firmware to ensure proper operation with the autosampler. The minimum firmware versions and their associated checksums are listed in the table below: Instrument Minimum firmware version Checksum Waters 2707 autosampler x41C7DD81 Waters 1500 series pumps x9C0477EE Waters 2475 fluorescence detector xF988582E Note: Obtain the latest 1500 series pump and 2475 fluorescence detector firmware from To install 2707 autosampler firmware: 1. Confirm that all instruments are powered-on and properly connected for communication with the workstation. 2. Navigate to the Firmware folder in C:\Empower\Instruments\Firmware, and then double-click Autoloader.exe. Autoloader automatically selects the instruments that require firmware upgrades. Restriction: Loader.exe is not supported for the Waters 2707 autosampler. Tip: To see the version and checksum, scroll to the right. Page 2 of 5

3 3. Click Load Firmware. The Autoloader loads the 2707 autosampler firmware. Result: The status changes to Load Complete when the firmware installation is complete. To install 1500 series pump or 2475 detector firmware: 1. Confirm that the instruments are powered-on and properly connected for communication with the workstation. 2. Obtain an IP address by connecting an Ethernet cable from the 1500 series pump to the Ethernet switch and recycling power to the instrument. Tips: Although 1500 series pumps communicate with the data system via IEEE-488, you must update the firmware via Ethernet. Older-model 1500 series pumps may lack Ethernet connectors on their rear panels. In these cases, contact Waters Technical Service for assistance. 3. Navigate to the Firmware folder in C:\Empower\Instruments. 4. Go to and copy the 1500 series pump or 2475 detector firmware to the Firmware folder. 5. In the Firmware folder, double-click Loader.exe. Tip: You can run multiple loaders simultaneously. To launch another loader instance, double-click Loader.exe at any time. 6. Click Scan for instruments, and then click Next. 7. Select an instrument, and then click OK. 8. Click Browse, and navigate to C:\Empower\Instruments\Firmware. 9. Click the file for the desired instrument, and then click Open. 10. Click Next. 11. When the download completes, click Finish. 12. Power-on the instrument. Resolved issues The following issues are corrected by this version. Note: Waters uses Product Change System (PCS) numbers to track the status of issues. PCS Number PCS When prep mode configuration is used, needle may break. PCS When cooler is not installed, temperature settings should be disabled in console. Page 3 of 5

4 PCS Number PCS Calibrate XY doesn t save settings unless needle position has been adjusted. PCS Calibrate XY context sensitive help incorrect. PCS Calibrate XY should be a user function (not under service mode). Known issues These issues are known to exist in this version at the time of release. Data-system references to trays 1 and 2 correspond to the left and right trays, respectively, in the autosampler. For optimal injection performance, degas the 2707 autosampler wash solvent using an inline degassing module or by an offline method. When a Waters 1525 pump or 2475 fluorescence detector is connected to the system PC, you must update the firmware to avoid gradient and communication issues. See page 3 for instructions. To use a glass wash bottle, you must install the wash bottle adaptor (p/n ). You must connect these instruments to the 2707 autosampler via trigger wire: all non-ethernet Waters instruments (e.g., 1500 series pumps and 2414, 2487, and 2996 detectors) all non-waters instruments the Waters 2475 Ethernet detector When creating a sample set in a project window, do not choose the Purge Inj function. This function is not supported by the 2707 autosampler; selecting it causes a software failure that can be corrected only by restarting the PC. The Injection will continue after warning option (accessed by clicking Configure > Preferences in the control panel) is available only for Ethernet detectors (e.g., Waters 2475, 2489, and 2998 detectors). Spark Holland (stainless steel) plates are not compatible after the 2707 firmware is updated to version Page 4 of 5

5 Issues associated with specific PCS numbers Note: Waters uses Product Change System (PCS) numbers to track the status of issues. PCS Number PCS PCS PCS As observed in systems containing a 1525 pump, WFCIII collector, 2414 detector, and a 2707 autosampler (configured for Prep mode with a delay volume of 0.9ML), you may need to program a next injection delay on each line of the sample set to allow the WFCIII to release monitor mode and start the next injection. Once calibration is performed, it is stored in the instrument correctly. However, when you open the Calibrate needle axis dialog box, it displays the default needle vertical setting. Use the main console screen or the control panel to control cooler temperature settings. Do not use Interactive display for this function. Page 5 of 5
