2 Page 2 Creating an imovie Using the Built-in isight Camera 1. Recording Video with Built-in isight Camera Open imovie. Click the Camera Import Button Important: Position the camera to fit the subject(s) on the screen. Click Capture If you want to add this recording to an existing event, click Add to existing Event: and choose an event from the event pop-up menu. If you want to create a new event for this recording, click Create New Event and enter a name for the new event. Click Capture when you are READY to record. Hint: Keep recordings in the same event if they are related. The camera will start recording. When done recording, click Stop. If you need to record more footage, repeat Capture through Stop instructions above. When you are finished recording, click Done.

3 Page 3 2. Creating a New Project in imovie 09 From the File menu, choose New Project. Enter a name for the project and leave the aspect ratio set to Standard (4:3). Click Create. Notice the area that says Drag media here to create new project. That is where you will be building your project. Click on an event in the Event Library, then skim through that event by moving the pointer over the filmstrips. When you find something you want to include in the project, simply click and drag through the filmstrip, just like you d select text. The selected video will be inside a yellow selection box. To fine-tune the start and end of the selection, click and drag the selection handle at either edge of the selection.

4 Page 4 When you re happy with the selection, click inside the selection box (arrow will change to hand) and drag it to the project browser. Continue to add selections of video to build your movie. If you want to add a new video clip between two existing video clips, drag it to the space between them. To rearrange clips that are already part of your project, click once to select them, then click and drag to move them. To delete a clip that you ve added to your project, click once to select it, then press the Delete key. Just like the Event Library, you can skim through the clips in the Project Library by moving the pointer through the clips. Click the Play From Beginning button to see the movie from the beginning in the Preview window. -OR- Click the Play Full Screen button to see the movie full screen. Press Escape to exit full screen mode.

5 3. Adding Titles Page 5 To add a title to your movie, click the Titles button. Move your mouse over the titles to see a preview of what each style looks like. Once you find a style that you like, drag it over a video clip in your project. As you drag, a blue highlight will show which part of the video the title will cover (front of clip, end of clip, or entire clip). When you let go of the mouse button, a blue marker appears that shows where your title appears in the video.

6 Page 6 Note: You can also drag a title to the beginning or end of your project, or in between any clips, in which case you will be given a choice of backgrounds for the title. When you find a background you like, click it to use it. To change the placeholder text to your own, select it in the viewer and then type in your title. If you d like to see how another title style would look, double-click the title (blue marker). Then in the inspector that opens, click the style name.

7 Page 7 Skim over any of the title styles to see a preview in the Viewer. Or press the space bar to play it at normal speed. When you find a style you like, click it to use it. Then click Done. Click Show Fonts to change the font of the title. Skim over a font, color, or size to see how it looks. Then click on the font, color, and size of your choice. Then click Done.

8 Page 8 To change how long the title stays on screen during the movie, drag the left or right edge. To move the title, drag it from the middle to put it where you want it. 3. Adding Transitions Between Video Clips To add a transition between two video clips, click the Transitions button to see all of the transitions that are available in imovie. You can see what each one will look like by holding the pointer over it.

9 Page 9 When you find one you want to use, drag it in between two video clips in your project. To see what the transition will look like move the pointer to just before the transition and press the space bar. The transition will play in the Viewer. To see what other transition styles would look like, double-click the transition, then click the style button.

10 Page 10 Skim over the styles to preview them. Click on a style to change to that style, or click Cancel if you want to leave the style unchanged. You can make the transition longer or shorter by typing in the number of seconds you want it to last. Uncheck this box if you don t want to change the duration of ALL of the transitions. Click Done.
