4 1 Product description 1 Product description The Downloadmanager 2 is a programme with which you can update the software on your job computer and other components, such as EDS modules. In the instructions, job computers and other components are grouped under the term "Device". If you want to update devices using displays without an USB connection or third party displays, you cannot use the Downloadmanager 2 alone. You will also need a Downloadbox. The Downloadbox is a tool which you can connect to a display using different adapter cables in order to update devices. You can use the Downloadmanager 2: Via USB on an ME ISOBUS display. You will need a USB memory device. Via a Downloadbox on an ISOBUS display. You will need an adapter cable and a USB memory device. As software on a PC. You will need a PCAN dongle and the file "ME Downloadmanager 2.exe". The user interface of the Downloadmanager 2 is thus always the same in all three versions. The current version of the Downloadmanager 2 can be found on our website, in the OEM Customers area. User name: Download Password: manager US

5 Brief instructions Updating software via an ME display with a USB connection Brief instructions The following chapters provide an overview of how to proceed in order to update the software of a device. Updating software via an ME display with a USB connection Proceed as follows if you are using an ME display with USB port: 1. Copy Downloadmanager 2 onto a USB memory device. [ 7] 2. Copy the update files onto the USB memory device. [ 7] 3. Start Downloadmanager 2. [ 8] 4. Update the software for a device. [ 9] 2.2 Updating software via an ME display with Downloadbox Proceed as follows if you are using an ME display with a Downloadbox: 1. Copy Downloadmanager 2 onto a USB memory device. [ 7] 2. [ 9] 2.3 Updating software via a third party display with Downloadbox Proceed as follows if you are using a Downloadbox with a third party display which was not supplied by Mueller Electronics: 1. 7 Before starting Copying Downloadmanager 2 to a USB memory device 3 3 Before starting 3.1 Copying Downloadmanager 2 to a USB memory device If you want to start Downloadmanager 2 via the USB port of a display or with a Downloadbox on a display, you will need to copy Downloadmanager 2 onto an empty USB memory device. There are two ways of obtaining the necessary files: As a ZIP file provided by Mueller Electronics. You must unzip the ZIP file directly onto an empty USB memory device. From your PC if you have installed the PC software of the Downloadmanager 2 [ 14] there. You must copy all of the files from the folder "C:\ME_Tools\ME Downloadmanager 2\Downloadmanager 2 USB memory device" directly onto an empty USB memory device. The file listing of your USB memory device must therefore look like this: 3.2 Copying update files Update files are files with which device software is updated. All update files have a *.mec file extension. These contain the files provided by Mueller Electronics. Older update files with extensions *.dbo, *.mhx, *.cio, *.bin or *.hex cannot be used for updating with Downloadmanager 2. You must copy update files to a specific folder before you will be able to perform an update. Copy the update files into the following folder: On a USB memory device, after you have copied Downloadmanager 2 to the memory device. [ 7] The "Download" folder. On your PC's hard disk, after you have installed the software on the PC. [ 14] Any folder. We recommend that you use a folder with the directory path "C:\ME_Tools\ME Downloadmanager 2\". V

Execute the file "ME Downloadmanager 2.exe" and then start the display 4.2 Screen structure After starting Downloadmanager 2, you will see screens on which the software can be used on the PC or display screen. The example below shows the screen which appears once the software is started: Display of selectable update files Brief instructions and key 4.3 Updating the software for a device Proceed as follows to update the software for a device: The device is connected to a display. The update files are on the USB memory device or on your PC. 1. Start Downloadmanager 2. [ 8] V

An "X" will appear before the selected device Open the folder with the update files. The following screen appears: 5. / / - Select the update file. If you are using Downloadmanager 2 on your PC, you can also navigate using folder in which the update file is to be found. to the 6. - Start the update US

If you are using a Downloadbox, the green LEDs [ 17]will light consecutively during the course of the update. 7. Wait until the update has been completed. If you are using a Downloadbox, the screen may disappear during the course of the update. The update will continue anyway. The update will only be completed once the green LEDs are lit continuously Return to the devices list. The software for the device will be updated. 4.4 Screens The following overview will show you what screens are available in Downloadmanager 2: V

14 5 Using Downloadmanager 2 on the PC Installing the PC software 5 Using Downloadmanager 2 on the PC If you want to install new software directly from your PC onto a job computer, you will need to install Downloadmanager 2 on your PC beforehand. In order to establish a connection between your PC and a job computer, you will need a PCAN dongle after installing Downloadmanager Installing the PC software To install the Downloadmanager 2 on the PC: You have the installation file ME Downloadmanager 2.exe from Müller- Elektronik. No PCAN dongle is connected to the PC. 1. Open the file ME Downloadmanager 2 Setup.exe by double-clicking on it. 2. Follow the instructions on the display screen. During installation, we recommend that you always use the default folder, C:\ME_Tools\ME Downloadmanager 2. You have now successfully installed the PC software on your PC. 5.2 Connecting and setting up the PCAN dongle Connecting PCAN-Dongle to a job computer PCAN-Dongle is not connected directly to a job computer, but an ISOBUS display which must be connected with the job computer via basic equipment. 15 Using Downloadmanager 2 on the PC Connecting and setting up the PCAN dongle 5 This is how you connect PCAN-Dongle to a job computer and PC: Make sure you have installed all drivers and software. Make sure you have an ISOBUS display connected to the job computer. 1. Connect the USB plug of the PCAN-Dongle to your PC. 2. Connect the D-Sub plug of the PCAN-Dongle to the Y cable. Use the unmarked end for this. 3. Connect the Y cable to the ISOBUS display. You have now connected the PCAN-Dongle Manually setting up a network for a PCAN dongle If the PCAN dongle does not function correctly after installation, you will need to set up the network for the PCAN dongle manually. By setting up a network, you will ensure that the PCAN-Dongle has been installed and functions correctly. The network is administered using the "PCAN Nets Configuration" program. This is how you set up the network: 1. Run the "PCAN Nets Configuration" program from the start menu. 2. Connect the PCAN-Dongle to your PC. Both networks with available range will appear in the window. 3. Make sure that the range "250kb" is located in network "PEAK USB-CAN". You can move the line with "250kb" by using the mouse. V

16 5 Using Downloadmanager 2 on the PC Connecting and setting up the PCAN dongle You have now set up the network Correcting the PC system settings If there is a problem after installation and setting up the network, you will need to correct the system settings of your PC. To correct the system settings: 1. Launch the Control Panel on your PC. 2. Click on "CAN-Hardware". 3. For the parameter "Active device", set the value "USB": You have now corrected your system settings. The PCAN dongle will now function US

17 Downloadbox Product description 6 6 Downloadbox 6.1 Product description A Downloadbox enables you to use Downloadmanager 2 on ME displays without a USB port or on foreign displays. Connect the Downloadbox to the adapter cable. 2. Connect the adapter cable with the CPC connector of the display and the ISOBUS basic vehicle harness. 3. Insert the USB memory device into the Downloadbox Connecting Downloadbox directly to the ISOBUS in-cab socket If the display is directly integrated into the tractor cab, you do not need to access the connectors of the display. You can connect the Downloadbox directly to the ISOBUS in-cab socket. Connector with adapter cable to the ISOBUS in-cab socket Connection for the Downloadbox This connector is left unused. 20 6 Downloadbox Updating Downloadbox 2. Connect the adapter cable with the ISOBUS in-cab socket. With adapter cable , one connector is left unused. 6.3 Updating Downloadbox The current software version of the Downloadbox is always integrated into Downloadmanager 2. If you use Downloadmanager 2 with a Downloadbox, you can install the current software version of the Downloadbox directly. Proceed as follows to update the Downloadbox software: You have connected the Downloadbox to a display. [ 17] 1. Start the display. You will be asked whether you want to update the software version of the Downloadbox. This message will only appear when a new software version is found. 2. Confirm the message. 21 Troubleshooting Alarm messages Troubleshooting Alarm messages Depending on how you use Downloadmanager 2, different alarm messages may appear. Alarm messages for all versions Alarm text Another Downloadmanager was found. Another Downloadmanager is active. Close down all Downloadmanagers and restart. The download path was not found. Remedial measure Close down all Downloadmanagers and restart. Close down all Downloadmanagers and restart. Ensure that the "Download" directory is available. Alarm messages during use on the PC Alarm text and remedial measure Error ID: 1P - The output buffer in the CAN controller is full. Disconnect the cable connector from the PCAN dongle. Then, reconnect the PCAN dongle. Error ID: 2P - The CAN controller was read too late. Disconnect the cable connector from the PCAN dongle. Then, reconnect the PCAN dongle. Error ID: 3P - BUS error: An error counter has reached its minimum. Check the cabling and termination resistor. Error ID: 4P - BUS error: An error counter has reached its maximum. Check the cabling and termination resistor. Error ID: 5P - BUS error: The PCAN dongle is not activated. Check the cabling and termination resistor. Error ID: 6P - The receiver unit is empty. Disconnect the cable connector from the PCAN dongle. Then, reconnect the PCAN dongle. Error ID: 7P - The receiver unit was read too late. Disconnect the cable connector from the PCAN dongle. Then, reconnect the PCAN dongle. V

22 7 Troubleshooting Alarm messages Alarm text and remedial measure Error ID: 8P - The transfer unit is full. Disconnect the cable connector from the PCAN dongle. Then, reconnect the PCAN dongle. Error ID: 9P - The PCAN dongle test failed. Disconnect the cable connector from the PCAN dongle. Then, reconnect the PCAN dongle. Error ID: 10P - The driver is not loaded. Re-install the Downloadmanager 2 PC software. Error ID: 11P - The hardware is already in use. Close the application which is using the PCAN dongle. Error ID: 12P - Another application is using the PCAN dongle. Close the application which is using the PCAN dongle. Error ID: 13P - The hardware handle is invalid. Reset the network and the baud rate for the PCAN dongle. Error ID: 14P - The network handle is invalid. Reset the network and the baud rate for the PCAN dongle. Error ID: 15P - The application handle is invalid. Reset the network and the baud rate for the PCAN dongle. Error ID: 16P - The resource (FIFO, user, switch-off) cannot be created. Disconnect the cable connector from the PCAN dongle. Then, reconnect the PCAN dongle. Error ID: 17P - The parameter is not permitted. Reset the network and the baud rate for the PCAN dongle. Error ID: 18P - The parameter value is invalid. Reset the network and the baud rate for the PCAN dongle. Error ID: 19P - Unknown error. Disconnect the cable connector from the PCAN dongle. Then, reconnect the PCAN dongle. Error ID: 20P - The connection has been broken. Disconnect the cable connector from the PCAN dongle. Then, reconnect the PCAN dongle US

23 Troubleshooting Using Repair mode Using Repair mode If it is not possible to establish a connection between Downloadmanager and the devices in a sub-group, you can use Repair mode to establish a connection. A device in a sub-group was not found. 1. Disconnect the connector cable between the device and the sub-group. 2. Start Downloadmanager Select the sub-group from the device list. 4. Select "Search for other devices" to activate Repair mode. 5. Connect the device and the sub-group using the connector cable. The device will stop during initialisation. You can update the device software. V
