1 BENCHMARK WORKSHEET ABOUT THIS DOCUMENT This document helps you define your hardware needs (Application Servers, Database Servers, and storage) according to the number of users you want to monitor, their level of activity, and the quality of your recordings. It provides benchmark data for common scenarios and hardware configurations. INTENDED AUDIENCE This document is intended for Professional Services, Sales, and Support personnel in charge of addressing customer needs as per the minimum recommended hardware requirements for running ObserveIT 5.8 on Windows platforms to support existing and expected users. BENCHMARK WORKFLOW To extract the information required to give a proper benchmark assessment to your customers, proceed with the following steps (described further in each relevant section): 1. Identify the users' Activity Rate: In this step, you will need to determine how much activity the customers' users are generating on the system by category (, Avg., or ). 2. Identify users' Image Data Weight: In this step, you will need to determine how much information the users' screenshots will generate by category (, Avg., or Very ). To do this, you can either: Choose the most appropriate category from the provided list, or Determine the appropriate category by consulting the provided table. 3. Refer to the Benchmark Measurements tables: After identifying the users' parameters, refer to the Application Servers and Database Servers tables in the Benchmark Measurements section to determine for each type of component architecture how many end users may be supported. 4. Refer to the Storage Consumption table: After identifying the users' parameters, refer to the Storage Consumption table, which describes the amount of data produced by each user per user workload type on an hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly basis, to determine the size of storage required to retain ObserveIT user data and to anticipate how long the data will be retained. Note: When using any of the tables (or lists) in this document, if for some reason any of the information required is unavailable to you (or your customer), assume the default values to be AVERAGE and inform your customer of doing so as required. 2 UNDERSTANDING THE USER WORKLOAD This section describes how to identify the User Activity Rate and Image Data Weight in order to determine the user workload. Note: The rates for user activity and image data are based on individual customer data. AVERAGE USER ACTIVITY RATE Calculate the User Activity Rate to determine how often, on average, each user is expected to be active during the workday's busiest hour. To identify the User Activity Rate Select the category that best describes the users: : 1 user action every 15 (or more) seconds (for example, System Administrators) : 1 user action every 10 seconds : 1 user action every 5 (or less) seconds (for example, Tellers, Developers, Brokers) Note: When "Continuous Recording is set to less than 5 seconds, the User Activity Rate is. AVERAGE USER IMAGE DATA WEIGHT Calculate the Image Data Weight to determine the amount of image data expected to be generated by each user. To identify the User Image Data weight Select the category that best describes the user s image data weight: : Grayscale images, low-standard screen resolution (<1024X1080), few/seldom screen changes (for example, static screens). : Grayscale images, high-standard screen resolution (1024X X1024), several/frequent screen changes (for example, classic desktop file browsing). : Grayscale images, Dual-screen, many/constant changes on the screen (for example, video). Colored images with low screen resolution or screen changes. Very : Colored images with average (or higher) screen resolution or screen changes. -OR- Use the table on the following page to choose the category more accurately. 3 Screen Dynamics To use the table in this section 1. Select the relevant image color scale (Grayscale or Color). 2. Select the screen resolution category most frequently used (<1024X1080, 1024X X1024, or Dual-Screen). 3. Navigate to the relevant column in this table to determine the type of image user weight class according to the user screen dynamics. 6 Storage Consumption STORAGE CONSUMPTION The following table describes the amount of data produced by each user per user workload type on an hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly basis. This helps you to determine the size of storage required to retain ObserveIT user data and to anticipate how long the data will be retained. To use the table in this section 1. Select the relevant average user activity rate (as determined in the previous steps). 2. Select the appropriate image data weight (as determined in the previous steps). 3. Navigate to the relevant column in the table below to view the expected amount of user data according to the user workload type (as determined in steps 1 and 2). 4. To assess the amount of storage required (and amount of time data will be retained), multiply the expected amount of user data (as determined in step 3) by the number of existing or expected users. 5. To calculate the amount of time to archive your user data, divide the expected amount of user data by 10 GB per hour. (For example, 300 GB of data will be archived in 30 hours.)
