3 Installation & Safeguards INSTALLATION & SAFEGUARDS 1. All the safety and operating instructions should be read before the DVR is operated. 2. Keep and follow all instructions. 3. Heed all warnings. 4. Clean only with dry cloth. 5. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong. The wide blade or the third prong is provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet. 6. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when it is unused for long periods of time. Environment Condition for Installation 1. To prevent electric shock or other hazards, do not expose the DVR to rain, moisture, or dust. 2. Place this DVR in a well-ventilated place and do not place heat-generating objects on it. 3. This unit should not be located in an area where it is likely to be subjected to mechanical shocks. Before You Start 1. Ensure the power switch is off before starting to operate the DVR. 2. Do not attempt to open or remove the cabinet. That may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. 3. Installation ought to be performed by qualified service specialists. 4. The power resource for the DVR must accord with the manufacturer s instruction label on the power supply. And please use the power supply included with the unit to energize the DVR. Notice 1. In initial operation, you must set TIME/DATE SETUP to have a correct recording time/date. 2. Format the HDD (MAIN MENU CONFIGURATION TIME/DATE) after connecting it with the DVR. If you don t follow the procedure, this will cause the DVR not to record images or save setting values. Additionally, even if there are recorded images inside, you are unable to search them. 3. To have sufficient DVR memory, you are recommended to use a large-capacity HDD. 4. You must set RECORD and SCHEDULE SETUP both in the menu of RECORD (MAIN MENU RECORD SCHEDULE SETUP) to enable the DVR to record the way you need. The recording type default is continuous mode. 3 3

14 3-2. Detailed Installation 1. HDD 1. Connect the main board with an HDD by an IDE cable plus an HDD power wire. 2. To install the HDD, the jumper setting must be master. 3. The background color of a selectable or adjustable item will turn white when a user moves the cursor onto it. A user can interact with it using the buttons or the wheel of a mouse DVR Log-in (Open Main Menu) (1) Move the cursor to the lower right corner on the display. DVR LOG-IN Then, click to log into MAIN MENU. ( DVR LOG-IN USER ID ADMIN MAIN MENU)(2) The message of DVR LOG-IN shows as the right figure. Log in as an administrator (ADMIN), and input the password (PW) composed of up to 8 digits. USER PW ENTER EXIT (3) To exit, click EXIT. ( As for MAIN MENU, refer to the page 23.) NOTE : 1. The USER ID is unchangeable and fixed as an administrator (ADMIN). 2. The password default is none. When logging in for the first time, please straightly click ENTER. 3. If the inputted password matches the one you already set, you will be allowed to enter the MAIN MENU. Contrarily, if an incorrect password is inputted, a message of PW IS NOT CORRECT will show on the display

18 4-3. Format The HDD CHAP.4 DVR Operation When an HDD is combined with the DVR, you must format it initially. You can format this HDD in HDD MANAGEMENT (MAIN MENU CONFIGURATION HDD MANAGEMENT). In this menu, click the FORMAT, and the HDD will be formatted just in seconds. Then, it is enabled to record images. SEARCH There are 3 approaches for a user to search for the recorded images via SEARCH: Mode PERCENT SEARCH TIME/DATE SEARCH EVENT SEARCH Function Searches by the percentage of total recorded images. Click on the search bar or the percent number and click PLAY, and the DVR will replay from the corresponding recorded image. Searches by time and date. Target a time point between START and END, from which the recorded image will be replayed. Then click PLAY. Searches via the event list that covers all events of motion detection, alarm input, and video loss. The DVR will replay the targeted event from when it occurred. NOTE : Recorded images in different modes (alarm recording, motion recording, and continuous recording) are successively accumulated in chronological order. 21 CHAP.4 DVR Operation 3. SEQUENCE To make the DVR automatically display channel 1~4 in full-screen sequentially, click. In addition, you can set the channel switching interval in SEQUENCE SCREEN (MAIN MENU CONFIGURATION INTERVAL SETUP SEQUENCE SCREEN). CH04 CH03 CH02 CH01 4. ZOOM IN If you click in the recording mode, live images will be twice enlarged, where you can change the zoomed-in position by sliding the cursor. To exit this mode, click again. 5. PIP (Picture in Picture) Click in the full-screen mode, and you will see a small window in the lower right position. When one of the four channels is displayed on the main screen, others will switch sequentially in this window. You can set their channel switching interval in PIP SCREE (MAIN MENU CONFIGURATION INTERVAL SETUP PIP SCREEN). 6. PTZ (PAN/ TILT/ ZOOM) Click to enter the PTZ mode, where you can pan or tilt a camera toward 8 different directions by clicking the left button. To zoom in or out the camera lens, you can roll the wheel forward or backward with the cursor in the middle of the display. Zoom In Zoom Out 21 21

SCHEDULE RECORD The DVR records as the setting in SCHEDULE SETUP (MAIN MENU RECORD SCHEDULE SETUP).,, or in red indicates the DVR is now recording in the mode of continuous recording, motion recording, or alarm recording. Oppositely, if a recording mode is disabled, its icon will turn white. Record [RED] Stop recording [WHITE] NOTE : In the following conditions, the DVR does not record:1. The HDD is full of recorded images with overwriting off. 2. A user is backuping recorded images via the USB slot. 3. A user is updating a firmware via the USB slot. 4. In a full-screen mode, if you click shown on the left half of the toolbar, the screen will be altered to a 4-split screen on the display. 2. DISPLAY SETUP In this configuration, you can adjust the setting of the screen display or the OSD menu. 24 CHAP.4 DVR Operation 2. RECORD RECORD SETUP RECORD This is a premier setting for the DVR to operate, which determines all details concerning recording modes. SCHEDULE SETUP ESC (1) RECORD SETUP CHANNEL: Select a channel to adjust setting. RESOLUTION: Alter the resolution of the recorded images. QUALITY: Alter quality of the recorded images. FRAME RATE: Shift the frame rate of the recorded images. RECORD SETUP CHANNEL CH1 RESOLUTION 352 * 240 QUALITY HIGHEST FRAME RATE 30.0 DEFAULT ALL-DEFAULT ESC NOTE : 1. In each setting menu, click ALL-DEFAULT to restore all changed parameters of the 4 channels on the menu to the factory default. 2. For more transmitted images and longer recording time via IP network, set the resolution as 352x240 and the quality as LOW or NORMAL. 3. Transmitting size of images in the PAL system is a little bigger than that in the NTSC system, but the total recording time for both systems is the same. 4. To know the maximal recording time for HDDs with different capacity, please refer to the table of HDD recording time (on the pages 66 and 67)

25 CHAP.4 DVR Operation (2) SCHEDULE SETUP Unless you select another recording mode, DVR system will record in continuous recording mode. In SCHEDULE SETUP, you can set recording type of one-hour intervals. The frame rate default for continuous recording speed is 30 FPS. Click ALL to set the entire grid as the designated recording mode in TYPE. HOUR DATE Channel: Select a channel to adjust setting. TYPE: Designates a recording mode to alter the setting value of the DATE/TIME grid. -CONTINUE: Records continuously. -ALARM: Records once receiving alarm signals. -MOTION: Records once detecting motion. -MOTION & ALARM: Records once receiving alarm signals or detecting motion. ALL: Set the entire grid (24 hours a day/7 days a week) as the designated recording mode in TYPE. DATE: Click a day on the menu to set 24 hours of that day as the designated recording mode. HOUR: Click an hour on the menu to make the DVR record in the designated recording mode during this hour everyday. NOTE : 1. Each type is marked in a different color. You can vary the recording schedule by pressing the left button and dragging the cursor on the grid.2. To demand the DVR not to record during some time, click the right button on blocks of the grid

CONFIGURATION Click CONFIGURATION, and you can open the menu shown below, containing eight configuration items: (1) HDD MANAGEMENT Items above the line clearly present the Information of the HDD, covering the model name, the serial number, the number of blocks, etc. Other items are for you to operate the HDD. MODEL: Indicates the model name of the HDD. SERIAL: Indicates the serial number of the HDD. BLOCKS: Indicates the HDD LBA BLOCK Number. SIZE: Indicates total size of the HDD. SPEED: Indicates the PIO mode of the HDD, which determines the transferring rate between the DVR and the HDD. OVERWRITE: Enable or disable overwriting the HDD when it is stuffed with recorded images. If it is enabled, the original recorded data will be replaced by new images. Oppositely, the DVR will cease recording if the function is switched off. You need to know what follows: (1) Upload speed: expected frame rates. (2) Download speed: expected frame rates. (3) Addressing: to make sure which scenario you should follow. (4) Router or modem: to make sure which scenario you should follow. NOTE : 1.If your provider uses PPPoE (usually a DSL provider does), you MUST have a router installed and follow instructions in 5-4 Dynamic IP of PPPoE (DSL) (on the page 36) for DVR setup and access. 2.Please verify the Internet access after installing any new equipment (a router, a switch, a modem, etc.). TCP/IP Setting of your PC Before configuring the DVR, please fill out the information listed below if available. Choose any PC on your network and determine its TCP/IP setting. In IP SETUP (MENU EXTERNAL DEVICE TCP/IP SETUP IP SETUP) for the DVR, please input an IP address assigned from the ISP. Operation Steps (1) Verify the IP address is correct for your PC before connecting it with the DVR. (2) Connect an LAN cable to the DVR after confirmation. (3) Go to IP SETUP of the DVR, and set DHCP MODE as MANUAL. (4) Verify if MAC ADDRESS starts from 00-0A-A2. (5) Set IP ADDRESS (assigned from the ISP). (6) Set IP PORT (50000 is recommended). (7) Set GATEWAY (assigned from the ISP). (8) Set SUBNET (assigned from the ISP). (9) Go out of MAIN MENU. (10) Turn off and on the modem (router) the ISP provides to reset clients of MAC from the ISP. Users need to wait for 30 seconds after turning on. (11) Access the DVR via the Remote Viewer, which you can install via the software CD. NOTE : If you fail to access, please verify step (1),(5),(6),(7),(8), or (10) again

35 5-3 Dynamic IP CHAP.5 Network Setup If you set DHCP MODE as AUTOMATIC in IP SETUIP (MENU EXTERNAL DEVICE TCP/IP SETUP IP SETUP), IP information will be automatically assigned from the ISP of DHCP. Operation Steps (1) Verify the IP address is correct for your PC before connecting the DVR. (2) Connect an LAN cable to the DVR after confirmation. (3) Turn off and on the modem (router) the ISP provides to reset clients of MAC from the ISP. Users need to wait for 30 seconds after turning on. (4) Verify MAC ADDRESS starts from 00-0A-A2. (5) Set DHCP MODE as AUTOMATIC. Then click IP DETECT to get a dynamic IP. (6) Go out of MAIN MENU after getting the IP successfully. (7) Access the DVR via the Remote Viewer, which you can install via the attached software CD. NOTE : If you fail to access, please verify step (1), (3), or (4) again

36 CHAP.5 Network Setup 5-4 Dynamic IP of PPPoE (DSL) The DVR doesn t support DSL (PPPoE), so users have to set the network with a router (for IP sharing) if they need to access it remotely. In this case, they have to port forward on the DVR. NOTE : Please contact the router s manufacturer if you need to know how to do. If users have a static or dynamic IP but still tend to use another device, say a PC, through a router, they can set the network following the steps: Operation Steps (1) Verify the IP address is correct for your PC before connecting the DVR. (2) Connect the router to a DSL modem as the flow chart shown below. (3) Set the Internet connection of the router. ( Refer to the router manual.) (4) Verify the router s network sub-group is correct. (5) Connect the DVR to the router. (6) Set DHCP MODE as MANUAL in IP SETUP(MENU EXTERNAL DEVICE TCP/IP SETUP IP SETUP),. (7) Verify MAC ADDRESS starts from 00-0A-A2. (8) Input an internal IP address (assigned from the router). (9) Set IP PORT (50000 is recommended). (10) Set GATEWAY (of the router). (11) Set SUBNET (of the router). (12) Go out of MAIN MENU. (13) Forward a port from the router. ( Refer to the router manual.) (14) Access DVR with external IP address and port. 49 CHAP.6 DVR Program Setup 6-6. DVR Remote Viewer DVR Remote Viewer is a program for distant users to monitor, replay, and backup recorded images via the network. NOTE : Prior to making use of this program, users have to install it from the software CD. 1. Main Interface 1- POWER: Click POWER to exit the program. Please disconnect the connection before turning off the software. 2- CONNECT: Click CONNECT to view the live images from the DVR, identical to those being displayed on the DVR, with a delay depending on your Internet connection between the DVR and where you are accessing. 3- DISCONNECT: Click this button to disconnect from the DVR, and then you can power off the software. 4- SCREEN DIVISION: Select the full-screen mode or the 4-split-screen mode. In the full-screen mode, you will see the number button of the channel you currently see is highlighted. 5- CHANNEL: Select a channel, if connected, that you want to see in the full-screen mode. 6- STATUS WINDOW: Displays the current time and date of the program. You will also see the current connection status. 7- SEQUENCE/SETTING/PLAYBACK: (1) Sequence: In the full-screen mode, click this button and all active channels will be displayed in sequence at a speed specified in the settings menu. (2) Setting: Enables the configuration screen. (3) Playback: Enables the remote playback screen. 8- PTZ control: You can control a PTZ camera via the program by following these suggestions: (a) First, you must configure a specific PTZ protocol in the program to communicate with the PTZ device. (b) When using any control button for the PTZ, please press and hold it for 1~ 2 seconds to compensate for the data transmission rate. If you simply click the control button, you may get undesired results (e.g. having the requested operation transmitted repeatedly, regardless of your intention). (c) The plus and minus buttons send PTZ commands to a corresponding PTZ camera ID

The outlined square indicates the ending data of recorded images in the HDD. The square in gray represents the date of current playback that you can change by clicking. NOTE : If an invalid date is selected, it will default to the beginning of all recorded images

NOTE : Before making use of this program, users have to install it from the software CD. 1 Time: Show the current time. 2 Status Window: Show the start and end time/date, and status of operating button. When users replay forward/backward, the recording time will be displayed. 3 Play Speed button: User can adjust replay speed by clicking up/down button. (1)SPEED: Adjust the speed (1/4X, 1/2X, 1X, 2X, 4X, 8X, or 16X) for 4 (b) or (e) buttons. (2)DELAY: Slow down replaying (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, or 32). 4 Operation: Users can search recorded data via these buttons. Activate the Remote Controller The remote control ships with a plastic contact breaker between the battery and contact. You must remove the contact breaker prior to use by pulling out the tab. NOTE : Preserve the contact breaker in case you need to return the DVR to the vendor. 2. Operative Range of the Remote Controller The remote controller operates the Media Player via infrared transmission. To make the remote controller function well, please direct it toward the receiver (infrared port) on the front panel of the DVR. Without barriers between the controller and the receiver, effective distance is 5~10 meter (dependent on its power status) and effective degrees 30 up, down, left, and right from the infrared port. 3. Notice 1. If the remote control does not work well, get closer to the receiver or check if the battery needs replacement. 2. Only a 3V CR2025 battery is compatible with the remote controller. 3. Dispose of used batteries complying with local regulations. 4. If you do not use the remote controller for an extended period, please remove the battery
