3 Firmware Update Instructions Just Add Power HD over IP Page3 Check Firmware Version Just Add Power devices have two requirements in order to transmit video: 1. Matching firmware version 2. Matching IP scheme Mismatched firmware can cause a variety of problems and is the first thing to check if experiencing a problem. Firmware can be downloaded from 1. Access the web interface of the Just Add Power device If the device is part of a system that was configured with JADConfig i. Type the IP address of the Just Add Power device into a web browser Google Chrome is best. If the device is directly attached to the PC, or if it is on an unconfigured switch on the same network i. Discover the IP address and change the computer s IP address to be in the same IP range. ii. Type the IP address of the Just Add Power device into a web browser Google Chrome is best. 2. For devices below A1.35, see the next section. 1. Download the appropriate firmware file from 2. Access the web page of the device the same way as Check Firmware Version. Google Chrome is the preferred browser. 3. Select the Update Firmware tab, then Browse to navigate to the firmware file. Once selected, click Upload. DANGER: If the transfer is interrupted mid-update, the device WILL NOT function. DO NOT interrupt the firmware process once it has begun. 4. Once the file is done uploading, the web page will show that the load has completed and the Just Add Power device will reboot. Access the web page to see the new version.

5 Firmware Update Instructions Just Add Power HD over IP Page5 Update 2G Device on Firmware Below A1.35 To update to the newest firmware, the device must first be updated to A Download the appropriate firmware file from 2. Access the web page of the device the same way as Check Firmware Version. Google Chrome is the preferred browser. 3. Click Browse and navigate to the folder where the firmware was downloaded. 4. Load the A1.35.bin file a. For Transmitters, the filename is JAP-2G-TX-A1-35-FIRMWARE.bin b. For Receivers, the filename is JAP-2G-RX-A1-35-FIRMWARE.bin 5. Wait for the file to finish uploading. DANGER: If the transfer is interrupted mid-update, the device WILL NOT function. DO NOT interrupt the firmware process once it has begun. 6. Power cycle the unit (unplug the power cable, wait 5 seconds, reattach power cable.)

Any firmware A3.00C or later may be loaded at this time. DO NOT interrupt the process once it has begun. 8. Once the file is done uploading, the web page will show that the load has completed and the Just Add Power device will reboot. Access the web page to see the new version.

7 Firmware Update Instructions Just Add Power HD over IP Page7 Troubleshooting Discover IP Address Just Add Power devices broadcast their IP address to connected devices. Using a program that can detect those broadcasts, the IP address can be discovered. 1. Bonjour Browser is a program that can detect IP address broadcasting. It is included in every 2G firmware download on the Just Add Power website. Go to to download a 2G firmware file. Note: For Mac users - Bonjour is built into Safari listed under Preferences > Bonjour 2. Open Bonjour Browser and select the Web Server (HTTP) option in the Services box. Any attached devices will show up in the window to the right. 3. Just Add Power Transmitters will display as ast-gateway, and Just Add Power Receivers will display as ast-client. 4. Change the IP address of the computer to be in the same IP range as the Just Add Power device. Bonjour Browser with 1 attached Receiver at factory default a. For Just Add Power devices at factory default, set the computer s IP to with a subnet mask of b. For Just Add Power devices not at factory default, set the computer s IP so that it has the first 3 numbers the same and the 4 th number different, with a subnet mask of Example: Just Add Power IP address Set computer IP address The computer can now properly communicate with the Just Add Power device.

8 Firmware Update Instructions Just Add Power HD over IP Page8 Access Multiple Devices at the Same Time Firmware updates must be done on each device. However, multiple devices can be accessed at the same time and updated simultaneously if they are all connected in the same network (VLAN). Unconfigured Switch Access All Transmitters and Receivers WARNING: When updating multiple devices at once, disconnect the HDMI cable from EVERY TRANSMITTER or firmware updates WILL FAIL. Connect all Just Add Power devices to an unconfigured Gigabit switch temporarily. Connect a computer to an open port on the unconfigured Gigabit switch. Bonjour Browser will show all Just Add Power devices and each can be opened in a separate web browser window. This is the only way to get multiple Transmitters in the same VLAN without major reconfiguration of the main switch.

9 Firmware Update Instructions Just Add Power HD over IP Page9 Through Transmitter Port Access All Receivers Only This method will give access to all Receivers at the same time. Transmitters must be done individually or through another method. 1. Use the Control System to set all Receivers to be watching the same Transmitter. 2. On the switch, disconnect the Cat X cable that is associated with the watched Transmitter. 3. Connect a computer to the now-open port on the switch that the Transmitter was attached to. 4. Open Bonjour Browser to see all of the Receivers (ast-client) that are watching that Transmitter.
