2 Johns Hopkins Wired Network Connections: Additional Network Connections If you are unable to use the wireless network, and would like to connect to the wired network using one of the in room data jacks, please use the following: Step 1: Verify you have a data jack in your room. They are often on the lower part of the wall, possibly behind furniture, usually grouped with phone jacks. Data jacks normally have a blue or white jack ID/icon; different than a phone jack. Note: All University dorm rooms should have at least one active data jack per student. Step 2: Connect your PC or Mac to one of the active data jacks with an ethernet cable. If you do not have an ethernet cable, Hopkins will provide you with one. You can visit any of the following locations to obtain an ethernet cable: 1) Wolman Hall Housing Office 2) AMR II Housing Office 3) Technology Center in the Basement of Garland Hall (9a-4p M-F) 4) SWAT Event: August 25 th August 28 th in the AMR II Social Lounge Step 3: Verify the connection has been established Mac OS X Click the AirPort Icon, Click Open Network Preferences, Confirm Ethernet Connected Windows OS Click the Network Icon, Click Open Network and Sharing Center, Confirm Connection: Local Area Connection and/or Connected Step 4: Proceed to the Mac OS X / Windows OS Network Registration Instructions in this packet to complete your access to the internet. 3 Johns Hopkins System Center Endpoint Protection It is necessary to remove/uninstall current anti-virus software on your system prior to installing Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection. Removing Current Anti-Virus Software To remove the current anti-virus program/application/software on your system, please visit the following website for instructions: Installing Johns Hopkins Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection JHU offers free Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection (anti-malware client) to all students with no registration or associated renewal fees. We understand that there are other options available, and that you may possibly be using one of those options for protection; however, we highly recommend that you use one of the software products offered by Hopkins. 4 Operating System Updates Additional Helpful Information Operating System updates provide significant benefits, such as improved security and reliability. To make sure your computer stays up to date, you should set up your system to install updates automatically as they become available. Confirm by verifying the Airport Icon is showing signal strength, and a check mark is next

For When using this certificate, select Always Trust. C. Click Continue. Step 2: A. Enter your JHED ID and Password. B. Click OK or Join. NOTE: You may be prompted for your Mac OS X username and password. Step 5: Your system should now be connected to the hopkins' wireless network! Confirm by verifying the Airport Icon is showing signal strength, and a check mark is next to hopkins in the AirPort Menu. Step 3: You should be prompted to accept our certificate. Click on Show Certificate. 6 Windows OS Wireless Network Connection Instructions Windows 7 Step 1: A. On the taskbar, right-click the wireless icon. B. Click Open Network and Sharing Center. Windows 8 & 10 Step 1: A. On the taskbar, right-click the wireless icon. B. Click Open Network and Sharing Center. Step 2: Select Manage wireless networks in the left sidebar. Step 2: Click Set up a new connection or network. Click Log Onto JHARS. Step 5: Click Create. Step 3: A. Enter your JHED ID and Password. B. Click Login.

9 Mac OS X / Windows OS Network Registration Instructions (Needed for Wired Network Connections Only) Step 1: Open Safari or Internet Explorer (*Not Google Chrome). Step 4: Click Dynamic IP. Step 2: A. You should be redirected to our JHARS Registration Website. If you are not automatically redirected, please enter into the address bar. B. Click Log Onto JHARS. Step 5: Click Create. Step 3: A. Enter your JHED ID and Password. B. Click Login. Step 6: After a few seconds you should see a screen confirming that registration was successful. You can now Logout. Step 7: A. Clear/Empty Browser History and Cache (in Internet Explorer make sure temporary internet files, cookies, history, form data, and passwords, are checked to delete). B. Wait until the process finishes, then close the browser. Step 8: Reboot your computer to start using the internet.
