Sign (Velcro) Printer Kiosk screen Tilt screen back to see power button Operating Instructions: Turn on/off the kiosk by pressing the button on the underside of the screen where the power symbol is located (Figure 1 below). [It may help to remove the Velcro sign]. Tilt the screen way back (so it is horizontal) to see the power button and cable connections. The unit can be left on all the time and does not need to be turned off and on every day. You may turn it off when not in use if you wish (e.g. overnight) but again, it is not necessary. Revised

Figure 1 If the kiosk does not turn on after pressing the power button, check that all the power cords are connected and plugged in properly. The unit will boot its self up (first screen you will see is Figure 2). Do not touch the screen while it is loading. You will see a long list of self-test components the system is checking. Most of these tests will say [OK](Figure 3). This takes only a minute or two. Figure 2 Figure 3 When the self-tests are finished, a blue screen (Figure 4 next page) will show for about 30 seconds. If for any reason the kiosk does not start up properly (and the power is on), turn it off by pressing the power button and try turning it on again.

3 Figure 4 Figure 5 The heading and UCIPM will show with a blue screen and a clock (Figure 5) for another 5 minutes or so while the system loads. Once the screen displays the alternating pest pictures (see front page photo) and Solve a Pest Problem text, the kiosk is ready to be used. If for any reason the kiosk does not start up properly (and the power is on), turn it off by pressing the power button and try turning it on again. Sometimes if the screen is touched during the loading process it does not start correctly. If you have problems or questions, call Karey Windbiel-Rojas at (530) or Mary Louise Flint at (530) Printer: Turn on the printer by pressing the On/Off switch (see picture next page). A green light will show to indicate it is on. A red light will show if it is out of paper. Be sure the printer is working properly!!! The most common reason the printer doesn t print is because the power cables are loose. Once you have set up the kiosk for an event, check all connections and print from a screen before the general public uses it. Remember to turn the printer off before unplugging the kiosk unit. The printer is a thermal (inkless) printer and will not require any maintenance except changing the paper roll when empty. Extra paper rolls will be provided. If you run out, please contact Karey Windbiel-Rojas. Some printers are attached to the base with very sturdy Velcro-like fasteners to keep the printer in place. Revised

4 To replace the paper, open the paper compartment by pressing the grey button on top. Place the paper in with loose paper feed underneath roll (see diagram). Paper compartment button Printer On/Off switch Feed paper under, not over Cleaning the screen: Only use the designated microfiber cleaning cloth provided to wipe fingerprints off the screen to avoid scratching or damaging the monitor. Do not use paper towels. Do not use any liquids to clean the screen. It is best to clean the screen when the power is off, but it will not hurt anything to clean it while in operation. Repacking and Returning the kiosk When repacking the kiosk to return to UCIPM or when moving it to another location, simply unplug the cords from the power source (the wall or power strip) and place the kiosk as a whole in the carrying case. Do not disassemble any parts of the kiosk including the screen, the printer, or any of the power cords or cables. Consult the checklist inside the instructions folder to make sure all items are accounted for. Please return the folder with the kiosk, too!! Continuous plugging and unplugging of cords and cables will wear down the parts over time. You may leave the Velcro sign attached to the monitor during transport. Do not remove the cable shield piece from the back of the printer. If the kiosk was used in dusty conditions, please be courteous and dust off the unit before returning it. Questionnaires Remember to fill out the online kiosk use questionnaire to help us improve the kiosk. Try to fill out the questionnaire soon after using the kiosk so any feedback you received from the public is fresh in your mind. Revised
