Introduction to the Student View Welcome to the New Generation of LiveText. This guide provides an overview of the New Generation from a student perspective. Step-by-step instructions are included for viewing and submitting assignments, as well as viewing grades and/or assessments. In addition, brief comparisons and explanations between features and functions in the current version or MyDesk version of LiveText and the New Generation of LiveText will be discussed. Objectives After reviewing this guide, participants will: Know the basic navigation and features within the student view of the New Generation of LiveText. Understand the process and procedures for starting accessing information and completing learning experiences within LiveText. Be able to submit an assignment, view the status of a submission, and resubmit an assignment.
LiveText Navigation Within the student view of the New Generation, students are able to view a Dashboard of their courses, as well as the related course assignments and announcements. Beyond the Dashboard are navigation tabs to view courses, create, edit, and review documents in LiveText, as well as access resources, and manage account settings. Dashboard View active assignments, current courses and new/unread announcements. Access, start, and submit assignments, as well as view the comments and assessments from assessors. Courses View current course and archived course information. Documents Create, edit, organize, and collaborate on documents with other LiveText community members. Reviews Check the status of a document sent for review. Students can also review and assess LiveText documents not specified by course assignments. Tools & References Create reports, take forms, create groups and visitor passes, and access standards and resources. Located in the upper, right corner are links to Logout, My Account, and Help. Logout Log out of the account. My Account Manage user information and account settings. Help Access LiveText help documents and training guides.
Dashboard Tab The Dashboard is the default navigation area in the student view in the New Generation of LiveText. This view is designed to bring the most commonly accessed tasks and frequently used information to the user with less navigation and fewer clicks. The Dashboard enables students to view their current courses, and is intended to provide students with the most relevant information for performing tasks and assignments successfully in LiveText. This view is comprised of New Announcements and Active Assignments, as well as links to course information for easy access.
Active Assignments If courses and related assignments have been uploaded and associated with the student, course tabs and assignments will appear in the Dashboard. Links to active courses will also appear to the right of the Active Assignments area. If no courses have been uploaded and associated, a default message will appear from LiveText to overview the intent and features of the Dashboard. If courses are uploaded and associated, but no assignments are posted, the student will be able to view the course tabs and link to view course details. If assignments are posted, students will be able to view the assignment title, due date, as well as the status (Submit Assignment, View Submission, View Assessment). Status notification is indicated by the following action links. Indicates that the assignment has not been submitted, or that the assignment was submitted and assessed formatively and the student needs to resubmit. Students may click on the link to submit or resubmit an assignment. Note: Students may submit or resubmit an assignment multiple times before the due date. A student may only submit after the due date if the instructor has granted permission in LiveText. Indicates that the assignment has been submitted but not assessed. Students may click on the link to view past submissions, and/or recall the submission. Note: Students can not recall a submission if it is past the due date unless the instructor has granted permission in LiveText. Indicates that the assignment has been assessed summatively. Students may click on the link to view the assessment. Note: A faculty may formatively assess multiple submissions before the deadline, and summatively after the due date. Students will also be able to click on the assignment title and view assignment details, as well as prior submissions and assessments if the assignment was MyDesk previously submitted and assessed. New Generation Edit Properties tab edit properties link
Viewing Assignment Details 1 From the Dashboard, click on the assignment title. 2 From the Assignment Details view, you can view the information regarding your assignment. If the assignment includes a Submission Template, click on the title of the Selected Submission Template link to start the assignment. This process will make a copy of the template in the Documents area. Tip: If no Submission Template exists, you can either create your own LiveText project document in the Documents area, or proceed with submitting a non-livetext document by clicking on the Submissions tab.
3. After clicking on the title of the Submission Template link, you can begin to edit different sections of the document. If you exit your LiveText account, you can continue working on the project in the Documents tab. For more information about editing LiveText documents, please see the section About Documents. An Open LiveText Document

This section provides an overview the primary differences in the New Generation within the Documents tab. For step-by-step instructions on creating and editing documents, please see the LiveText training guide Introduction to LiveText. Edit Document View After a document has been created in LiveText, or is opened from the Documents area, you may edit the document. The tabs and buttons in the edit view will enable you to edit the properties, manage pages, sections, and content, as well as commands to exchange, copy, print, and export the document. 26 Changes in Editing Documents in the New Generation Please note the following changes between the current version or MyDesk version of LiveText and the New Generation. Example LiveText Document with Content Indicates that the assignment has been submitted but not
About the Reviews Tab In the New Generation, most course-based assignments will be accessed through the Dashboard or Courses tabs. From the Admin Account, the assignment is created and populated within the student s account, and a class roster with student submission status is populated in the faculty account. Students turn in their assignments to their instructor by clicking the Submit Assignment link on the Dashboard. Documents submitted and received for review in the Reviews tab will often be used in non-course related projects or for peer review and collaboration. This can be independent of an assignment in LiveText. Students can turn in their document for review to anyone in LiveText by clicking the Send for Review button when viewing their LiveText document. Open the Reviews area by clicking on the Reviews tab. The Reviews menu contains five system Labels: Inbox, Sent, Drafts, All, and Trash. Click the appropriate Label to select which submissions are displayed. Submissions can be labeled, un-labeled, searched, sorted, reviewed, and assessed. For step-by-step instructions on reviewing and assessing in the Reviews area, please see the LiveText training guide Introduction to LiveText.
Tools & References Tab The Tools & References tab enables the user to create reports, take forms, create groups and visitor passes, as well as access standards and resources. To the right of the tabs is an Exchange area with links to the Reviews area, Groups, and Visitor Passes. Reports Create assessment and standards reports. Forms Take forms sent to the account. Groups Creates distributes a distribution list to distribute documents quickly. Visitors Create passes for visitors to access shared document, and track the date and time of each visit. Standards Search standard sets. Resources Access LiveText resources.
Summary In this guide participants received an overview of the New Generation of LiveText from the student perspective. Participants learned the steps for viewing and submitting an assignment and assessment. Participants also learned how to access course announcements and other information. In addition, participants gained an understanding of the differences in features and functionality between the current version of LiveText or MyDesk version, and the New Generation.
