1 GIS 215 N Mason St PO Box 580 Fort Collins, CO fax Thursday, June 21, 2012 Mobile GIS Maps The City of Fort Collins GIS department has made mobile maps available through the use of ESRI s ArcGIS Appp for Smartphones and Tablets. At the time of this writing, requirements were as follows: ios Version or above Android Version 2.22 (Froyo) and above Windows Phone OS version 7.0 and above Please check individual system requirements on thee store before downloading. Once the App has been downloaded and installed itt needs to be configured to look at the city s GIS server. To do this tap on the Find Maps icon on Smartphones or the Maps button on Tablets. * See note at the end of the documentation.

2 Then tap on GIS Connections s and then the + sign in the upper right corner. Enter for the Address. Some devices ask for a Description, enter City of Fort Collins or anything else you would like. Then click Done or Ok. The application will test the connection and then connect to it.

3 Now tap on the Find Maps icon or the Maps button again and it should show the current connection at the top. This should be the connection that was just created. Now tap on Maps or My Maps depending on thee device and then tap on Maps.

4 The Listt of available maps will then be diisplayed. Tap on the t image next n to the description d e selected map. 5 To Locate an Address, enter the full address in the search box including the city name. Example: 215 N Mason St, Fort Collins. If the Address is found, the map will automatically zoom to the area and place a flag on the location. Note: You must append Fort Collins to the end of the address you are searching for otherwise the address will not be found. Tapping on the screen at any location will get more information about that point. The tablet version returns the information in a popup on the screen. Iff more then one feature is identified, the popup will list how many results were returned and will allow the user to slide the data in the popup to seee the other results. The Smartphone version will display a small popup on the screen that has a white > on the right side if there is more information available. This appears as shown at right. When this appears, tap on the popup to get the information.

6 Some of the result fields may be hyperlinks and willl link to web sites. For example, in this case the parcel number field will open a link to the Larimer County s Assessor website. To see a legend or change what information is being shown on the map, tap on the Legend/ /Content tab on a tablet, the Menu/Setting key on Androids, the i on iphones. 8 The maps may have more information associated with features then is at first obvious. For example, the floodplain map displays real-time rain gauge information. It is displayed on the map showing the twenty-four hour rain totals. If thee end-user taps on the rain gauge, more information will be displayed; totals from 30 days to 30 minutes. These are the basic instructions necessary to use this app and should enable the end user to get the information they are looking for. * Note: These screen shots show only the ipad, iphone (Version 2.3) and Android (Version 2.0) devices. Different devices and versions may look different but should function basically the same.
