1 User Manual Introduction Welcome to Video Keyword Spy. The first truly accurate keyword software tool purely for video. Video Keyword Spy was developed to save you time when choosing keywords to target when ranking videos in Google. It runs a number of calculations and processes in order to determine whether a keyword is viable for ranking on the first page of Google using video. It is based on a video having a FULLY optimized title, description and tags. In this user manual you will discover how to effectively use Video Keyword Spy and all of its features. Using the Long-tail Keyword Feature Video Keyword Spy has a built-in long-tail keyword feature which is to help you discover suitable niche keywords if you do not already have any in mind. It is great for uncovering keywords that are being searched for in Google. To use this feature simply click on the GREEN button upon opening the software.
2 Then simply enter your seed niche keyword. Let s say for example we wanted to get keyword ideas related to dog training.
3 After entering your broad niche keyword you click on the button as illustrated in the screenshot above. The software will then start digging and crawling Google for keywords. After the software has finished crawling Google it will display the resulting keywords in a text area and provide you with a number of options. It is recommended that you Export Keywords the entire list first. You do this by clicking on the Export Keywords button. After that you may wish to filter your master list down into smaller segments. To do this simply enter a filter keyword and click the FILTER button. You will see that the software only displays keywords that contain your filter word. You can then EXPORT this more targeted segmented list by again clicking the Export Keywords button. You can rinse and repeat this process using different filter words. To access your saved keyword lists click on the [Open Data Folder] link.
4 You can also filter and edit your keyword list down and then transfer those ideas over to the main feature of the software Identify Video Keywords. Identifying Video Keywords The main feature of Video Keyword Spy is to of course identify which are the best video keywords to target. From the main dashboard first choose a Google Region (Country) from the 190+ that are available, click the Set Country button until you see that your selected country has been set and then click on the Identify Video Keywords button. The Google region you select should be the country / location that you are wanting to rank videos for. If you don t want to target a specific country then you can set it to Global (Google.com).
5 You will be presented with a large text area in which to paste in or type in your keywords. One keyword per line. *** IMPORTANT UPDATE *** Please NOTE that the software NO longer uses the (round brackets). The software ONLY uses the [square brackets]. Please IGNORE all instructions below relating to the (round brackets). IT IS VERY IMPORTANT YOU PAY ATTENTION TO THE FOLLOWING In-order for Video Keyword Spy to provide you with a high level of accuracy we have added the use of these [brackets] and these (brackets). If you do not use these correctly the software will not work effectively. Let s take a look at some example keywords that use BOTH types of brackets.
6 The first important thing to remember is that you can only use EACH type of brackets ONCE per keyword. So, what do these brackets mean? The square brackets are to go around the TOWN or CITY if your keyword is a local keyword. In the example above the location is pontegract so I have encased that word with [square brackets]. The (round brackets) are to encase the CORE part of your keyword. In the first 3 examples given in the screenshot above this is emergency dentist. As a result I have encased emergency dentist with (round brackets). On the end of those keywords you will see additional words such as Saturday, 24 hour and out of hours. These are NOT the CORE part of our keyword so these are not to be encased with round brackets. The core part of the keyword is the broad(ish) niche. In the above examples dentist would be too broad but emergency dentist is just right. This will ensure that the software will run calculations based on results that are to do with emergency dentist. To give you another example of how to do this, let s take the keyword. Teeth whitening equipment and tools in London You would use the brackets like this (Teeth whitening) equipment and tools in [London] As the software needs to crawl a number of pages PER keyword and then crunch that data it is recommended that you do not process more than say keywords any one time. It isn t the fastest process BUT the software is doing a LOT of processing during this time. Go pour yourself a cup of tea or coffee whilst you are waiting
7 If you keyword is NOT a local keyword and does not contain a town or location then you do NOT need to add [square brackets]. When you have entered your keyword(s) click on the Find Video Keywords button to proceed. The software will run through the keywords and then present you with some data and options. How to Use the Data The data that is shown is only PART of the data and is NOT the final conclusion.
8 The keyword column shows the keyword. The # Results column shows the number of results in Google for each of the keywords. This is the broad match results and the higher this number is, the more competition there is in Google for the keyword. The Result column shows whether there are already any Youtube videos ranked on the first page of Google or not. A green tick signifies that there is and a red cross (as shown above) signifies that there isn t. The Adwords column shows the number of Adwords ads that are on the first page of results for the keyword. This will indicate whether businesses are currently PAYING to be listed in Google for that particular keyword. If they are paying (PPC Pay Per Click) to be listed on the first page they MAY happily pay you for a branded video to be ranked on that SAME page of results for that keyword. The Score % column is the difficulty score that the software has calculated for Google. The higher the score, the harder that keyword will be. IF YOU click on the blue scores it will open up another wondow where it will display the titles of the first page Google results (See below).
9 Words within the title that match a word contained within YOUR target keyword will show in BOLD. This will give you an indication of how well the currently top ranked results are optimized for the keyword in question. However, do not go by that score We are not finished yet. The # Videos column lets you know how MANY Youtube videos are already listed on the first page of Google for the keyword. If a video is not currently ranked on the first page it can either mean A) There are no suitable videos for Google to include within their top Google results. B) The web results are too strong and the keyword is TOO competitive for ranking a video on the first page. The red PLAY icon (if clicked) will open your external browser and display the Youtube search results for the keyword. Finally, look over WHICH keywords strike you as being ideal. Which ones have fewer results indexed in Google? Which ones have the lowest Score %?
10 What you need to do then is click on the relevant blue magnifying Glass icon. This will open up a NEW screen and this is where your final data and conclusion will be. During this final step the software will perform a number of different scoring calculations based on the competition within Youtube. It will also run through an algorithm that will take all of the scores and data and give you a clear and precise Overall Difficulty score and conclusion. First of all you will see 10 video titles in the screenshot above. These are the CURRENT top ten ranked results in Youtube for the keyword you selected. Any words that have been BOLDED can be found within your keyword.
11 The Strength % column signifies the calculated strength of EACH title. The software takes lots of different factors in the equation when running through its calculations. Traffic Light System The software was designed to be user-friendly and easy to understand. This is WHY a traffic light type system was added. The colours used are RED, AMBER and GREEN. Red being hard and green being EASY. The part that you particularly need to pay attention to is the Overall Difficulty. If you want to almost guarantee a page 1 Google ranking using video then it is recommended that you target keywords that give you an overall difficulty score of 16.7% or LESS. The conclusion will either be Very Easy or Easy. That is what you want to aim for. If the score is above that then it will be increasingly hard to impossible to rank a video for. The purpose of this software is to allow you to find EASY keywords. There are MILLIONS of keywords available so it is always best to go for the ones that are a sure fire win. Some keywords will show a long green bar across the bottom with some text in it. Like the example in the screenshot above. If it displays this green bar / message then it means that the statistics for the keyword MATCH statistics within our database (on our server) for a proven page 1 ranking. This further suggests that your keyword WILL rank on the first page of Google with good onpage optimization alone. Before closing this particular window you might want to SAVE this data to the software built-in data file. You can do this by simply clicking on the little green PLUS+ icon as indicated within the screenshot below.
12 Once you have viewed (and maybe saved) the CONCLUSIONS for ALL your keywords (on your main dashboard) you can choose to VIEW your data file. You can access your SAVED data at any time by clicking on the Navigate menu in the top menu bar and selecting View Data File.
13 The software will then display ALL your saved results in an easy to view table (See below). You can CLEAR / DELETE all of your saved data at any time by clicking on the Navigate menu and selecting Clear Data File (See below). Please be warned that this will DELETE ALL of your saved data and is only to be used once you no longer need to store your current data. Deleting your old data will make it easier to manage your NEW data moving forwards.
14 Switching Your IP In all of our internal testing (and with our beta testers) we have not had any issues with regards to having our IP blocked by either Google or Youtube. However, under heavy consistent use this MIGHT be a possibility. In this case we recommend a low-cost software / service that allows you to switch your local IP address within seconds.
