3 Purpose and Objectives This document provides information and instruction on how to: Using Test Conversion Services Insert a Test into a Content area Modifying Test Options Formatting Conventions Throughout this document you ll see various symbols and specially formatted text. Here s what it all means: General instructions and hands-on activities are laid out in numbered lists, like this: 1. Log into the Blackboard system. 2. Click on the Control Panel button. 3. and so on Menu commands are written in the form, Menu > Submenu > Submenu. For example, the instructions, Choose Edit > Copy would be the equivalent of the following if put into a numbered (step) list: 1. Choose Edit from the menu bar. 2. Choose Copy from the drop-down menu that opens. Important words or phrases are formatted in bold text. Folder and file names, as well as options you may choose to select from a menu are formatted in italics. Text formatted in a different font is text that you need to type. In some of the hands-on activities, you may be asked to type a URL in the address bar of a browser, or to type a passage into a text box. 4 Using Test Conversion Services Test Conversion Services are provided by the elearning department to assist instructors with converting MS Word, Rich Text, or Plain Text quiz s and/or tests for delivery through Blackboard. Using test conversion software called Respondus elearning can quickly and easily convert tests and insert them directly into your Blackboard course. Instructors will need to provide elearning the following to take advantage of this service: 1. Electronic copy of the test(s) in word, rich text or plain text format a. Correct answers will need to be marked on the test by placing an asterisks (*) by the correct answer. An example (a, has been selected as the correct answer) We want our image to be respectful, trust worthy and be, in your knowledge, creativity, technical skills, and sense of style. *a. confident b. doubt c. suspicion d. resistance 2. Which course(s) you want the test(s) to be located a. Course Title b. Course ID The test types supported include: Multiple Choice and Answer True/False Essay Matching Ordering Fill in the Blank Test Conversion Services are offered on a first in bases. Turn around time depends on the number of requests already scheduled. Instructors will be provided an estimated time as to when there tests will be completed and available. You will receive notification when tests are available. Please Note: The more complex the test type (i.e. Ordering, Matching, etc) the longer it may take elearning to convert each test. 5 Insert a Test into a Content Area Once your tests have been converted, it s now time to insert each test into the appropriate content area for delivery. Complete the follow steps to insert each test: 1. Open the Blackboard course into which you want to insert test(s). 2. Control Panel > Test Manager (from the Assessment area). > 3. Review and verify that your test(s) are listed 4. Click OK, and then click the content area (from the Content Areas) for which you want to insert the test. 5. Click Test 6. Select an existing test from the menu, click Submit to add the test, and then click OK. Last updated: 10/20/2008 5

6 Now it is time to modify the test options Modifying Test Options If you want to make changes to an existing profile, complete the following steps: 1. Select Modify the Test options. 2. Make any needed changes to the five area options, and then select Submit > OK > OK. a. Test Information b. Test Availability c. Self-Assessment Options d. *Test Feedback e. Test Presentation *Note: When selecting Test Feedback options, it is recommended that you use the Score Only option if you do not want students to have additional access to the test questions after completion. 3.
