Navigation Select Content from the Editing site home page. Creating the Primary Navigation Menu The Content function on the editing site is where you add links to specific pages that you ve created. Any link that you create here will appear as an option that you can click on in a menu on the main site. The Contents page Searching your Content Link Search Searches for the Menu or Link Link Status Page Search Searches on the page Please Note All three functions use character recognition & return suggestions based on what you have keyed in. Page Search has character recognition so entering a keyword will return all pages containing that word. Your search can be further defined by entering more of the name of the page you are searching for. Link Status Searching by the status of a page to return Live (published), Pending (unpublished), Mobile of Offline content. Page 1
1. Navigation Link Name This is the name/label that will be visible on the main site. You would click on this name/label to open up the corresponding page. To specify which menu it appears in on the main site, click on Edit and then change the Parent Navigation option accordingly. 2. Add/Edit/Delete 3. Type Add enables you to add a secondary navigation link using the link as the parent (primary) Delete or edit simply allow you to do just that. Here is where the type of navigation link is shown. This will say Standard pages Navigation, indicating that it s a Visage-based navigation link. 4. Show This section tells you if the page is currently visible or hidden on the main site. 5. Status If a green tick is visible under this option, the navigation link is currently visible and usable on the main site. If a link is awaiting approval then it will display a red cross and not yet active. 6. Menu This option shows where the navigation link will be shown on the main site. Specifying Top or Bottom (Footer) will place it accordingly. the page is external and has not been created from within the editing site. The means that the page is an internal version. The icon means that icon Page 2
7. Link This icon shows whether the page that the Navigation Link is connecting to is external or internal. The icon 8. Access This function links directly into the systems Single Sign-On system. This Visage Groups set against the particular member s account will govern whether they can see the link. If a group number attached to their account is also assigned to the link in question, they ll be able to see it. If 0 is assigned, everyone can see it regardless of their Visage Group. Please Note: This is a feature that will be further implemented once securities and permissions have been fully explored. Page 3
Primary Navigation Link The Add New Link function on the content page is where you add menu s to navigate your site. Click on to display the Add New Navigation Link Page. 1. Link Text This just refers to the menu label, ie Home, About Us etc. For Example - 2. Parent Navigation Left blank equals parent (primary menu) navigation, selecting a link from this menu would create a child (secondary menu) of your selection. This drop-down box lets you specify where you menu will sit within the main site menus. It determines whether it is a primary or secondary level menu. See Creating Secondary Navigation Menus for instructional text to create secondary menus. Page 4
3. Navigation Item Position The Navigation Item order determines where on the main page the link will be visible. For ease of use and to maintain a concise website, we have two menu position: Top (header) and Bottom (footer). 4. Navigation Item Order The navigation Item order determines the numerical order in which links are displayed. Eg Swimming Australia s website order 1. Home 2. News 3. About Us 4. Getting Involved 5. Community 6. Events 7. High Performance 8. Media Page 5
5. Category Description This is simply a section where the link itself can be described. This is intended to simplify future editing by ensuring that all navigation links are clearly described. 6. User Access level This function links directly into Swimming Australia s single sign-on system. Group Permissions set against the particular member s account will govern whether they can see the link. If a group number attached to their account is also assigned to the link in question, they ll be able to see it. If 0 is assigned, everyone can see it regardless of their group permissions. Please Note: This is a feature that will be further implemented once securities and permissions have been fully explored. 7. External Link If you need your link to connect to a website that isn t part of the Visage system (a page controlled by the editing site), then type the full URL into here. For eg Page 6
8. Friendly URL Any text that is inputted here will be dropped in as part of the website address (known as the URL) Search engines (Google for example) look primarily at website addresses. Usually, the address itself will have very little to do with the actual content of the page, meaning that search engines will look at the address and not know what s on the page. Because of this, the page won t be listed on any search results. Using the Friendly URL function allows certain key words to be dropped in as part of the address. This means that people will be able to search for your page more easily. For example D=3098 Tip Though specific formatting is not required here (apart from leaving out file extensions such as.html), it is recommended that hyphens are used instead of spaces. For example: getting-involved instead of getting Involved This simply relates to how most popular search engines function, and will generally allow them to return your page as a search result more regularly. 9. Open Link in New window? This function simply allows the user to specify if, when they click on the link, a new window will open to display the page. If New Window is selected, a new one will open. If Same Window is selected, the page will appear within the current active window. Page 7
10. Show Navigation Item If this box is ticked, the navigation link will be visible. If the box is left blank, people visiting the site will not be able to see it. This option is primarily used when a link needs to be modified, and saves deleting and re-typing a new one. 11. Images for Category This allows you to display an image against the navigation object. To specify the image, click on the Browse button and choose the correct image file. Image displays in between the Heading, a 2 nd image will display if you want to rotate between the two. Please Note: We have not been supplied with parameters for this function yet, so are unable to demonstrate. A help file will be made available when the full function is known. Page 8

Navigation Item Order 1 st menu item 10, 2 nd menu item 20, 3 rd menu item 30 and so on. the Olympics Navigation Item Order - 10 Tip Though any numerical value can be input, it is recommended that multiples of 10 are generally used. This will allow you to slot in new links using a multiple of 5 if necessary. This tip is more relevant for the sub-menus as the incidence of those menus changing is more likely than the Primary menus. 5.
