2 Abstract You can use the Informatica command line program to run PowerCenter workflows from the SAP system. This article describes how to run PowerCenter workflows from the SAP system. Supported Versions PowerCenter 9.x Table of Contents Overview Prerequisites Running a PowerCenter Workflow from SAP Executing and Monitoring a PowerCenter Workflow from SAP Overview You can use the Informatica command line program pmcmd to run PowerCenter workflows from the SAP system. You can also verify the status of the workflow execution from the SAP system. When you install Informatica services and clients, pmcmd is installed by default. You can also install and run pmcmd on any machine without installing Informatica products. Informatica provides a separate Informatica_cmd_utilties zip file to install command line utilities on a machine that does not have Informatica products installed. To get the zip file, contact Informatica Global Customer Support. To run PowerCenter workflows from the SAP system, install Informatica command line utilities on the SAP system and use the pmcmd StartWorkflow command. Prerequisites Before you start pmcmd, perform the following steps: Configure the environment variables for the command line programs and grant run permission on the utility files to the user accounts that run the commands. Define pmcmd as an operating system command in the SAP system. Enter the connection information for the command, such as the PowerCenter Integration Service name, domain name, folder name, workflow name, user name, and password. Define the connection information as parameters for the operating system command, and execute the command from the SAP system. Running a PowerCenter Workflow from SAP Use the pmcmd command line program to run PowerCenter workflows from the SAP system. Start pmcmd on the SAP system, and run the infacmd updategatewayinfo command from the SAP server machine. The updategatewayinfo command creates or updates the domain information file from the command line in the 2
3 domains.infa file. The domains.infa file contains the connectivity information that is used to connect to the domain from SAP systems. 1. Download the following file for the operating system on which the SAP server runs: <Version>_Informatica_cmd_utilities_<OperatingSystem>.zip. To get the zip file, contact Informatica Global Customer Support. 2. On the SAP server machine, copy the.zip file for the command line program and extract the files to the machine where you want to run the command line utilities. 3. Click Start > Run. The Run dialog box appears. 4. Enter cmd and click OK. The command prompt appears. 5. Navigate to the following directory: <Command line program installation directory>\powercenter\server\bin 6. Run the updategatewayinfo command. Use the following syntax: infacmd updategatewayinfo -dn <DomainName> -dg <GatewayHost:Port>. For example,./infacmd.sh updategatewayinfo -dn Domain_SAP_Adapter -dg uspluto:50000 The domains.infa file is generated in the following location: <Command line program installation directory>/powercenter 7. Create the INFA_DOMAINS_FILE environment variable and set its value to the path and file name of the domains.infa file. 8. Log in to the SAP system. 9. Go to transaction SM69 and click Command > Create. The Create an External Command window appears. 10. Enter a command name. 11. In the Operating system command field, enter the following value: <Command line program installation directory>\powercenter\server\bin\pmcmd 12. In the Parameters for operating system command field, enter the following command: 3
4 startworkflow -sv <PowerCenter Integration Service Name> -d <Domain Name> -u <UserName> -p <Password> -f <Folder Name> <Workflow Name> 13. Save the changes and execute transaction. The SAP system triggers the PowerCenter workflow that you defined in step 12. Executing and Monitoring a PowerCenter Workflow from SAP After you run a PowerCenter workflow from the SAP system, you can use the operating system command name to monitor the status of the workflow execution. 1. Log in to the SAP system. 2. Go to transaction SM37. The Function Builder: Initial Screen window appears. 4
5 3. In the Function Module field, enter SXPG_COMMAND_EXECUTE and click Display. The Test Function Module: Result Screen window appears. 5
6 4. Enter the name of the operating system command that you defined earlier and press F8 to execute the transaction. The Structure Editor window appears displaying the status of the workflow execution. 6
