1 Instructions for the Download and Installation of CTAS Version 8.2 Update (Patch) Office of the State Auditor Website: NOTE: Some pictures and screenshots in these instructions refer to Version 8.1: all instructions below will work for the download and installation of Version 8.2 The CTAS Version 8.2 Update (also referred to as the patch ) can be downloaded to your computer from the State Auditor s Form Entry System (SAFES). We recommend downloading the update using a high speed Internet connection: if a high speed connection is not available, please contact our office at ctas@osa.state.mn.us or (651) STEP ONE: DOWNLOADING CTAS VERSION 8.2 UPDATE TO YOUR COMPUTER These instructions show the downloading process using Internet Explorer as the web browser. You can use another browser, but your screen will look different from the screenshots below. To access the download from SAFES, you need to be a registered SAFES Form Preparer and have your username and password available. If you have forgotten your password, go to If you are not currently set up to use SAFES as a Form Preparer, e mail us at ctas@osa.state.mn.us. To find SAFES, go to the Office of the State Auditor s website, On the menu bar at the top of the home page, place your cursor over the Forms heading. 2 A menu will drop down: place your cursor over State Auditor s Form Entry System (SAFES) and left click once. The SAFES home screen will open. Enter your User Name and Password, then left click once on the Log In button. Instructions for Downloading and Installing CTAS Version 8.2 Update (Patch) 2

3 The SAFES Contacts screen will open. Left click once on the CTAS tab. The CTAS version 8 screen will appear. If another screen appears with information on how to purchase Version 8, it indicates that our records don t show that you are registered as a purchaser. Please contact us at ctas@osa.state.mn.us. On the CTAS version 8 screen, the entity or entities associated with the user are listed. From this screen you can download CTAS 8.2 Update and view or print a CTAS Chart of Accounts. 4 To download CTAS Version 8.2 Update, place the cursor over the Download CTAS Version Update link and right click once. A pop up menu will appear. Left click once on Save target as. In the instructions below we will save the program file to the desktop. While you can save the program to any location on your computer, be sure to remember where the file has been saved. 5 When you click on Save target as from the drop down menu, a Save As box will appear. Double left click on the location where you want to save the CTAS Update exe file, then left click once on Save. The update will begin downloading to your computer. NOTE: If you receive the message below, click on the X. The amount of time it takes to download depends on your Internet connection. 6 Some browsers may show a status bar so you can see how the download is proceeding. When the download is finished, the message The CTAS Update download has completed will appear. Left click once on the X to close this message. Log out of SAFES by left clicking once on the Log Out tab. When you have logged out of SAFES, minimize or close your browser to continue installation (see next page). Instructions for Downloading and Installing CTAS Version 8.2 Update (Patch) 6

7 STEP TWO: INSTALLING CTAS VERSION 8.2 UPDATE ON YOUR COMPUTER Before you install CTAS Version 8.2 Update, be sure to back up all of your CTAS Version 8 data. NOTE: Some pictures and screenshots in these instructions refer to Version 8.1: all instructions below will work for the download and installation of Version 8.2 NOTE: CTAS Version 8.0 must be closed before you install Version 8.2. CTAS Version Update has been downloaded. To run the update, double left click on the CTAS Update icon, which we have saved to the desktop. 8 The CTAS License screen appears. To continue, left click once inside the I agree to the license terms and conditions box. The Install button will become usable. To begin installation, left click once on the Install button. A pop up window asking for permission to install the program may appear. Users will have to select yes or allow to install CTASv8. 9 Some users may see the window below. If you don t see this window, continue with installation on the next page. If the window below appears, please press Cancel. After clicking Cancel you will see the window below. Click Close and contact us at ctas@osa.state.mn.us or Instructions for Downloading and Installing CTAS Version 8.2 Update (Patch) 9

10 When the program has finished installing, a screen will appear with Setup Successful. Leftclick once on Close. Now that the program has been installed, you can delete the CTAS Update exe (update) file. Place the cursor over the CTAS Update8.2.0 exe file icon and right click once. 11 You will see this screen: Left click once on Yes to delete the installation file. CTAS Version 8 is now updated and ready to use. The shortcut icon is on the desktop. Double left click on the CTASv8 icon to open the program. In the Welcome to CTAS screen, the Application Version Number should now read The Update has been successfully installed.
