2 Update Bundle 14 description Update Bundle 14 description New features and changes This release is commonly called EMC Ionix ControlCenter Update Bundle 14 (UB14). The version is It is a cumulative roll up of ControlCenter 6.1 patches and update bundles including relevant SQL patches released by EMC prior to this release. Update bundle 14 has two different installers for 32-bit and 64-bit platforms. The new ControlCenter 64-bit installer will install 64-bit Oracle 11g and all other ControlCenter components remain 32-bit on 64-bit platforms. On the infrastructure repository systems (ControlCenter and StorageScope), the new ControlCenter 64-bit installer will install 64-bit Oracle 11g. It is required that you download and read the latest version of the Support Matrix and all other related ControlCenter documents from EMC Online Support before you begin installation. Note: You must upgrade agents to the UB14 level to make full use of the patches and additional features provided in this bundle. Added support for Oracle 11g. Added Oracle 64-bit support in ControlCenter for 64-bit operating systems. Added support for VMAX 1.5 and CKD devices. Added support for Solutions Enabler 7.5. 5 Installation IMPORTANT After upgrading the infrastructure and the Master Agent on the infrastructure servers to Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 and before upgrading the agents, you must install the latest Ionix ControlCenter Update Bundle from EMC online support site. After completing the upgrade or fresh installation of Ionix ControlCenter, the latest Update Bundle and Oracle 11g OCPU patch must be installed. Agent backwards compatibility Backwards compatibility means the agent will continue to function as designed with the previous versions of Ionix ControlCenter Update Bundles. The Ionix ControlCenter Update Bundles provide agent backwards compatibility for the following: Master and Host agents Common Mapping Agent Database Agent for Oracle from 5.2 SP5 or later Do not update your Common Mapping Agent to Update Bundle 5 or later if you are dependent on database support provided only with Solutions Enabler 6.5.x. Note: Any host that uses the EMC Invista Storage must have the Host Agent running at UB3 or later version. 6 Installation UB14 Error Handling flowchart Preinstallation requirements Before proceeding with the steps outlined in this document, the following prerequisites must be met. Mandatory Oracle 10g OCPU update before UB14 upgrade Apply latest Oracle 10g OCPU patch before upgrading to EMC ControlCenter 6.1 UB14. Note: Download the latest Enviroment Checker from EMC Online Support ( and ensure that all Enviroment Checker checks have passed before upgrading to UB14. Operating system locale settings Ionix ControlCenter supports only English language during installation. Before upgrading, ensure that the operating system locale setting it is set to English. Before upgrading, run ControlCenter Environment Checker utility to check the operating system locale setting. Memory The EMC Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Performance and Scalability Guidelines available at EMC online support site provides more information on memory requirements. 6 EMC Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Update Bundle 14 Read Me

7 Installation Note: Oracle recommends additional 1GB memory for Oracle 11g installations on the hosts. Note: Recommended to have additional 1GB memory in addition to suggested minimum memory for EMC ControlCenter on Windows Server 2008 hosts. Disk Space EMC ControlCenter 6.1 Update Bundle 14 requires a minimum of 13 GB free disk space. Depending on the database file size, you may require additional disk space to install Oracle 11g. During installation, DBF check will verify if the database file size is more that 30GB or not. If the size exceeds 30GB, the installer will abort installation. IMPORTANT It is recommended to run the Ionix ControlCenter Environment Checker tool before upgrading to Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 UB14. For more information, refer to Ionix ControlCenter Environment Checker section. Disabling IOPath Ensure that you disable IOPath before upgrading to UB14, do the following: Install latest quarterly Oracle security patch 1. Execute ECC_IOPath.bat -i command from command prompt to check the status of IOPath. 2. If IOPath is currently enabled, you can disable it by using the following command: ECC_IOPath.bat -d. You must download and install the latest quarterly Oracle Critical Security Patch Updates (32-bit/64-bit) from EMC Online Support before performing the upgrade. Encountering the error stated in step 4 indicates that the Oracle Critical Security Patch is out of date. Note: You MUST close all Oracle DLL's before starting the upgrade. Use the ControlCenter Environment Checker utility to check if any Oracle DLLs are being used by any Ionix ControlCenter services that you may need to stop prior to installing the patch. To verify whether this is necessary: 1. Navigate to the latest backup of the Ionix ControlCenter Repository. 2. Extract rambdb_exp.log from %RAMBBACKUPDIR%\exp\rambdb_exp_dmp.zip. 3. Edit rambdb_exp.log by using Notepad or Wordpad and go to the end of the file. 4. If you see the following lines at the end of the file, apply the the Oracle Security patch before upgrading to UB14: ORA-31672: Worker process DW01 died unexpectedly. Job "SYSTEM"."SYS_EXPORT_FULL_02" stopped due to fatal error at [Timestamp]ORA-39014: One or more workers have prematurely exited. EMC Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Update Bundle 14 Read Me 7

8 Installation Backup StorageScope This prerequisite is only needed if UB14 is being applied to an existing Ionix ControlCenter environment. Backup Ionix ControlCenter Perform these steps prior to installing UB14: 1. Run the %ECC_INSTALL_ROOT%\repository\admin\emcsts_scripts\emcsts_trending_services. bat. 2. Run a StorageScope Repository Export and Backup. It is mandatory to perform a complete backup of Ionix ControlCenter prior to starting the UB14 installation except for fresh installation. 1. Download and install Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Backup and Restore Utility (CC_4938.zip or CC_4990.zip) on all infrastructure servers. Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Backup and Restore Utility Read Me provides more information. Note: If you have a ControlCenter setup installed using A02/04 kit and upgraded to pre-ub12, apply patch 4938 to back up ControlCenter. If you have a ControlCenter setup installed using A05 kit and upgraded to UB12, then apply patch 4990 to backup ControlCenter. The respective Backup and Restore patch Read me files provide more information. 2. Run backup.bat in the %ECC_INSTALL_ROOT%\HF<patch_number> directory on all infrastructure servers except for servers that have the Performance Manager GUI Client installed alone with no other Ionix ControlCenter components. 3. Reboot the server. 4. Copy the %ECC_INSTALL_ROOT%\ directory to another storage location. 5. Change the Ionix ControlCenter and Oracle services back to Automatic and proceed with applying the patch. Note: If Ionix ControlCenter is installed in a Microsoft Cluster, leave all the Ionix ControlCenter and Oracle services set to Manual. Ionix ControlCenter Environment Checker Ionix ControlCenter Environment Checker is a diagnostic tool for determining whether the existing Ionix ControlCenter is ready to be upgraded to the next higher version. The purpose of this tool is to list out any potential issues that could occur while upgrading Ionix ControlCenter. Starting with, the Ionix ControlCenter Environment Checker is part of the update bundle downloadable file. It is required to run the Ionix ControlCenter Environment Checker tool before upgrading to Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 UB14. Perform the following to install and use the Ionix ControlCenter Environment Checker tool: 1. Execute the Ionix_CEC_1.0.x.x.exe file distributed with the EMC Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Update Bundle EMC Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Update Bundle 14 Read Me

9 Installation 2. By default, the Ionix ControlCenter Environment Checker is extracted to the local drive. You can also extract the tool to a non-default location. 3. Launch the tool by double-clicking the Ionix_CEC_1.0.x.0.exe file in the <CEC_INSTALL_FOLDER>. 4. Update the Ionix ControlCenter Environment Checker to the latest version by clicking Help -> Check for Updates. For more information on using the tool, refer to Ionix ControlCenter Environment Checker Online Help. Note: If there is no internet connectivity or if the host is behind the firewall, download latest version from EMC Online Support site and install it on the host. Note: The Ionix ControlCenter Environment Checker tool is updated periodically. The next time you choose to run this tool, it is recommended that you check for any latest updates. Note: In a distributed Ionix ControlCenter deployment, install and run the Ionix ControlCenter Environment Checker tool on each of the infrastructure component servers to verify their upgradability. Stop infrastructure services Before implementing this update bundle, you must stop the following Ionix ControlCenter services on all the following Ionix ControlCenter infrastructure systems: EMC ControlCenter API Server EMC ControlCenter Key Management Server EMC ControlCenter Master Agent EMC ControlCenter Repository EMC ControlCenter Server EMC ControlCenter Store EMC ControlCenter STS MSA Web Server EMC ControlCenter Web Server EMC StorageScope Repository EMC StorageScope Server Wait until the Server and Store services are completely stopped. This can take 3 5 minutes. Verify that they have stopped in the Windows Task Manager (in the Processes tab, and then look for ECCService_Store.exe and ECCService_Server.exe. It is recommended to change all the service statuses to Manual and reboot the machine. Note: Depending on your infrastructure's configuration, these services might not all be running on the same system. EMC Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Update Bundle 14 Read Me 9

10 Installation Note: When you stop EMC StorageScope Server, it should automatically stop the associated SRMService.exe service, if the SRMService.exe service is not stopped, ensure that this service is stopped manually. Note: Stop the Oracle Agent (EGOAgent.exe) service manually. IMPORTANT A connection to the Ionix ControlCenter Repository is required to install the patch, so do not stop the following services: OracleECCREP_HOMETNSListener, OracleServiceRAMBDB (Ionix ControlCenter Repository), and OracleServiceEMCSTSDB (StorageScope Repository). Stop non-ionix ControlCenter services Stop the following non-ionix ControlCenter services: All antivirus services should be disabled so that on-access virus scans and background virus scanning operations are not running in the background on any StorageScope systems. All COM+ services should be stopped and disabled except on a Microsoft Cluster. All server management services (HP and DELL) should be stopped and disabled. VMware Tools Distributed Transaction Coordinator Windows Management Instrumentation Applying UB14 to different versions of Ionix ControlCenter The following scenarios describe how to prepare different versions or configurations of Ionix ControlCenter for the UB14 update. Completely fresh install of Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 (Update Bundle 14) The EMC Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Planning and Install Guide, Volume 1 provides information to perform the initial installation. Upgrade to Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 from a pre-6.1 version Note: These steps apply to Ionix ControlCenter components installed according to Ionix ControlCenter s design across one or more infrastructure servers. Using the A02/A04 or A05(recommended) kit, upgrade to ControlCenter 6.1 from pre-6.1. Do not use the Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Rev A01 media. To complete the upgrade: 1. Reboot the Ionix ControlCenter Server and Repository first, then reboot the other infrastructure servers. 2. Install the Console on the Remote Access Server and not the infrastructure host. 11 Installation 3. Upgrade the agents on the WLA Archiver host. 4. Upgrade the StorageScope service. 5. Connect to StorageScope and run ETL successfully. 6. Upgrade Master agent. If Performance Manager is already installed on a host with master agent deployed, Performance Manager will be upgraded automatically. Upgrade and run Performance Manager GUI Client. 7. Connect to the Web Console if this is part of your design. Verify version of Ionix ControlCenter To verify the version of Ionix ControlCenter: 1. Open a DOS window on Ionix ControlCenter Repository host. 2. Open the following directory: cd /d %ECC_INSTALL_ROOT%\Repository\admin\Ramb_Scripts. 3. Run ecc_getversion.bat. You will see the version information as follows: ECC Repository Version ECC Repository version information External Version : Version Internal Version : KitSpec : GA6 Build Label : ECC MAY Build Name : ECC MAY Release Date : Sat May 16 14:34: Install Date : Wed May 27 17:02: Exit the DOS window. Existing EMC Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Ionix ControlCenter environments that are already at a UB4 or above can be upgraded to (UB14) immediately following the instructions below. Note: Anytime a Master Agent is installed on a new host it must be patched immediately to or later. This does not apply to Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Update Bundle 12 or later. Note: The EMC Ionix ControlCenter Planning and Install Guide, Volume 1 provides details to discover pre-61 agents into a fresh install of Ionix ControlCenter 6.1. In a Microsoft Cluster When applying any Ionix ControlCenter upgrade, Update Bundle or OCPU Patch, the Ionix ControlCenter and Oracle resources found in the Cluster Administrator must be removed from the cluster as follows: 1. Open the Cluster Administrator. 2. Select the Oracle Repository Resources and take it off-line. EMC Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Update Bundle 14 Read Me 11

12 Installation Note: All of the Oracle and Ionix ControlCenter resources should be stopped with this action. 3. Select the Oracle Resource and delete. Note: All of the Oracle and Ionix ControlCenter resources should be selected for deletion. 4. Open the Services applet. 5. Start the Oracle Services. Patched Ionix ControlCenter components 6. After the upgrade or update bundle is completed successfully, add the Oracle and Ionix ControlCenter resources back to the cluster. UB14 patches the following Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 (version ) components: EMC ControlCenter Server EMC ControlCenter Store EMC ControlCenter Console EMC ControlCenter Web Server EMC ControlCenter Web Console EMC ControlCenter StorageScope EMC ControlCenter API Server EMC ControlCenter Key Management Server Performance Manager Client EMC ControlCenter Agents EMC ControlCenter FLR Archiver EMC ControlCenter Security Library Files The following components will not reflect the updated version even though they have been updated: EMC StorageScope Repository Tomcat Web Application Performance Manager Client API Client 12 EMC Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Update Bundle 14 Read Me

13 Installation Note: Verify that the services are running. For distributed Infra check on each host where the following databases are installed (RAMBDB and EMCSTSDB): OracleECCREP_HOMETNSListener OracleServiceRAMBDB (Ionix ControlCenter Repository) OracleServiceEMCSTSDB (StorageScope Repository) UB14 installation Note: The Ionix ControlCenter Infrastructure and the Repository must be completely upgraded and rebooted before continuing to the other infrastructure components. Note: During UB14 upgrade, various repository backup folders are created under different upgrade directories. To reclaim the disk space, you can remove these folders after successful upgrade. For more information on backup folders, refer to Backup folder created during UB14 Upgrade section. The bundle should be installed on the infrastructure hosts in the following order: EMC ControlCenter Repository EMC ControlCenter Server EMC StorageScope Repository EMC StorageScope Server EMC ControlCenter Store/API Server/WebConsole/Performance Manager GUI client Every Ionix ControlCenter infrastructure system needs to be updated with this patch. In a distributed Ionix ControlCenter infrastructure environment, components may reside on multiple systems. Note: If the StorageScope Server and the StorageScope Repository reside on different hosts, you may need to reapply this patch to the StorageScope Server host after you update the StorageScope Repository. UB14 patch can be applied to any previously installed version x.x of Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 as follows: 1. Verify that all of the above preinstallation requirements have been met. 2. On 32-bit platforms, unzip CC_4979.zip to a shared directory where each of the infrastructure servers can connect. Note: On 64-bit platforms, unzip CC_5013.zip. 3. Execute Patch _4979_x86.exe on the infrastructure you are currently updating. Note: On 64-bit platforms, execute Patch _5013_x86_64.exe. EMC Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Update Bundle 14 Read Me 13

14 Installation Note: The InstallShield may display a dialog box indicating that the StorageScope Server will not be updated at this time if the StorageScope Server and the StorageScope Repository reside on different hosts, and the StorageScope Server is on the same host as the Ionix ControlCenter Repository and/or the Ionix ControlCenter Server. 4. Click Next on the welcome screen to go to the Ready to Install step of the wizard. Following warning message appears: Locked files/folders were encountered while trying to back up <directory> Would you like to try again? Yes/No As a workaround, rename the folder latest.xxxx to old_latest.xxxx at the path %ECC_INSTALL_ROOT%\tools\jre\nt\. After renaming the folder, click the Yes button to continue the installation. Note: If the following message appears during installation, then the database upgrade failed. Error upgrading database. Please review <log_file>. Please contact customer service regarding this upgrade failure. Review the log to determine the cause of the database upgrade failure. Contact customer service to determine if a patch or other fix is needed. Apply any required patches to fix the issue. Click OK on the original message box. Another message box will pop up with the following text. Would you like to retry the database upgrade? Click YES if you would like to retry upgrading the database. Click NO to abort the installer. Note that aborting at this point will require you to rollback to your previous version of Ionix ControlCenter. 5. You will receive confirmation that the patch has been successfully applied to the system with a Finish button. 6. Restart the Ionix ControlCenter services. Change the Services statuses to Automatic. 7. After the Ionix ControlCenter server and Repository are rebooted, update the next infrastructure component in the order shown above. Note: : If a post upgrade validation issue is encountered in ControlCenter Repository, the following warning message will appear before the install finish dialog box appears. ControlCenter Repository upgrade completed, but post-upgrade validation found few minor discrepancies. you can continue to use ControlCenter. Please review the post-upgrade validation report for ControlCenter Repository at location %ECC_INSTALL_ROOT%\Repository\admin\Ramb_scripts\upgrade\schema_reports\ram b_reports_summary.log and contact EMC Customer service if you have concerns. 14 EMC Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Update Bundle 14 Read Me

15 Installation Note: : If a post upgrade validation issue is encountered in StorageScope Repository, the following warning message will appear before the install finish dialog box appears. ControlCenter StorageScope Repository upgrade completed, but post-upgrade validation found few minor discrepancies. you can continue to use Ionix ControlCenter. Please review the post-upgrade validation report for Ionix ControlCenter StorageScope Repository at location %ECC_INSTALL_ROOT\Repository\admin\emcsts_scripts\upgrade\schema_reports\emcs ts_reports_summary.log and contact EMC Customer service if you have concerns. 8. Reboot each infrastructure host and confirm that the Ionix ControlCenter services started. 9. For each Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Console: Note: If the server is a licensed Terminal Services or Citrix remote access server, then follow the steps to installing/upgrading the Console in the EMC Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Planning and Installation Guide, Volume 1 and the EMC Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Upgrade Guide. This step is only relevant for a Console running on a single user workstation. a. From a browser, connect to b. Click Installation, and then select Console Patch to apply UB Patch the Master Agent first. IMPORTANT The Master Agent must be patched first before the sub-agents can be patched. 11. Apply patch to all remaining agents. Note: If the Apply Patch task fails when attempting to start agents, issue Restart Master Agent from the Console. Refer to the section, Failed agent recovery instructions section for more information. Backup folder created during UB14 Upgrade This section provides information on the backup folders created during UB14 upgrade to ensure that all the appropriate log files are saved for troubleshooting the schema or database errors. These folders can be removed after successful upgrade to claim the used disk space. Ionix ControlCenter backup folders created during UB14 upgrade The following are the ControlCenter backup folders created during UB14 upgrade: 1. 18 Installation Failed agent recovery instructions If any agent patching tasks appear as failed in a task list, follow these instructions to recover. These instructions may need to be repeated multiple times depending on the failure scenario. Recovery scenario #1 1. In the Console agent view, verify that agents are active and at the correct version. 2. If agents are running at the correct version, agent installation is complete and task failure was due to a timeout and can be disregarded. Recovery scenario #2 1. In the Console agent view, verify that agents are active and at the correct version. 2. If agents are not running or are not at the correct version, agent patch installation was unsuccessful. 3. Stop Master Agent through task manager or remote tool (all mstragent.exe processes should be stopped). 4. Stop all subagents through task manager or remote tool. 21 Installation Note: In order to access multiple Ionix ControlCenter deployment's web applications from the same browser, the certificate regeneration procedure must be executed for each Ionix ControlCenter web application deployments. Procedure for removing the StorageScope Repository and StorageScope Server after UB14 has been installed (optional) If the EMC Ionix ControlCenter Repository and StorageScope Repository is installed with OCPU, you will not be able to reinstall StorageScope Repository on the ControlCenter Repository host. This is because, the EMC Ionix ControlCenter Repository is at a higher Oracle version than the GA or CD A05 version of what you are trying to install for StorageScope. However, StorageScope Repository can be installed on a different host in a distributed environment and then upgraded to or later. IMPORTANT This procedure is optional and only necessary if you want to remove the StorageScope Repository and StorageScope Server after or later has been installed.
