2 Episode: Getting Started ü The Google mobile apps are a collection of four different downloads and include: 1. Drive 2. Docs 3. Sheets 4. Slides ü Each app has its own, but they are all connecte ü Downloading the Apps If using an ipad or iphone, these apps can be downloaded for free by going to the. For Android users, visit to download the free apps. ü Setting up the Google Drive App 1. the app. 2. Click the blue button labeled at the bottom of the screen. 3. Enter your Google and, and then press Sign in. You may see a large area in the center of the screen while the app gets setup for the first time. Note, if you are using a school-purchased device, it is recommended that you use a school or district assigned Google to set up the app, keeping your and information separate. 4. Finally, make a selection about whether or not you want to opt into Google s App tool, and you re ready to begin. 2
3 Episode: Logging into the Drive App ü This episode will teach you how to log into the app. Once logged into the Drive app, you will be logged into all four apps when they launch for the first time. ü The Drive app provides easy viewing access to existing files in your. ü Your or may have already set up a Google account for you; check with your IT department if you are unsure. ü Logging into Drive 1. Launch the app. 2. Enter your Google and passwor 3. Click when you are done. If you don t have an, the option to create one is provided at the bottom of the Sign In window. 4. The words should appear in the upperleft corner of the screen once your have logged in. If using an existing account, a list of previously created and should appear on the screen. 4 Episode: Drive App ü The purpose of the Drive app is for users to quickly and easily any type of stored in their Google account. ü Accessing Files Using the Drive App The Search Field This section is located at the of the screen under the words My Drive. Type in any portion of the or within a file to locate it. The app will immediately begin searching as soon as you begin. Launch the app and press the blue button at the bottom of the screen. 2. After entering your and password, you will see a view of all the documents currently stored in your account. Note that you may not see anything here if you haven t a document before, or if nobody has a document with you. 3. If you do have documents, tap one to view it in mode. While in preview mode there are a series of icons in the upper-right corner that provide the following options: e. 4. 8 Episode: Docs ü When you re done editing a file, click the blue in the upper-left corner, and then select the to return to your list of files. ü The Docs Menu Clicking the icon of three lines in the upper- corner opens a menu with the following options: e. In math, they can be useful for teaching about,, and over time. ü Getting Started with Sheets 1. Launch the app, and when prompted press the blue button that reads. 2. Click the in the upper-left corner to return to the list of files. ü Creating a New Spreadsheet 1. While viewing the list of your spreadsheets, click on the green circle with a symbol in it, located in the lower-right corner of the screen. 2. When prompted, enter a for your new spreadsheet and then tap. 3. You are now in mode, which is designed for the file. Notice that the same icons as in the Docs app appear in the upper-right corner, including: 4. To begin working on your spreadsheet, tap inside cell A1. 10 Episode: Sheets ü Formatting Options In the upper-right corner are a list of icons that offer the following options: e. f. More formatting options are located to the right of the strikethrough icon, and include: e. The symbol offers the ability to insert and. At the far right is the icon of three stacked, which offers the same options as in the app. ü Adding and Managing Sheets Looking at the bottom of the screen, tap the small triangle next to the phrase to see these options: e. Add more sheets by selecting the symbol located in the lowerright corner. You can move between sheets using the displayed along the bottom of the screen. 10
11 Episode: Sheets ü When you are done editing a spreadsheet, click the blue in the upper-left corner. ü Select the icon to return to a list of your spreadsheets. ü Selecting the icon of three in the upper-left corner brings up the same list of as in the Docs app. ü The File Picker Clicking the icon in the upper-right corner offers an alternative method for finding spreadsheet files. ü As with documents, spreadsheet files can also be accessed using the app. After opening the Drive app, you can easily locate spreadsheet files because they are labeled with the color. Tapping on any spreadsheet causes the app to open and you can begin editing the file. 11
12 Episode: Slides ü The Slides app is designed for,, and presentations, including Microsoft PowerPoint files. ü Mobile devices can be used to display presentations using wireless systems like TV or Google s. ü Getting Started with Slides 1. Launch the app and if this is your first time using Slides, click the blue button at the bottom of the screen. 2. A screen will appear showing all of the you have access to, including those with you by others. Note that the files will appear in view by default. Switch to view by selecting the icon in the upper-right corner of the screen. 3. any of the files to view them. 4. Return to the previous screen by clicking the in the upper-left corner. ü Creating a New Presentation 1. As you enter text, notice that the menu in the upper-right corner changes and displays the same options as the Docs app. 6. Add additional to your presentation by tapping the icon in the lower- corner. Note that at the time this course was created, there is no way to insert into a Google presentation created using the mobile Slides app. 7. The Slides app does allow you to and text from another source into a presentation. 8. Choose the in the upper-left corner when you are done editing your presentation. 9. View the presentation by selecting the button located in the upper-right corner of the screen. 10. Move forward through the presentation by swiping from to across the screen. 11. 14 Episode: Options ü The Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides apps all have a common set of. ü These options allows you to access in different ways, even when you don t have access. ü Exploring the Mobile App Options Launch the Docs app and select the icon of three in the upperleft corner to view a list of the following options: Google Account Starred On Device Google Drive ü Options for the Drive App Note that the Drive app has been around than the other mobile apps, and has slightly options. After launching the Drive app, click on the same icon of lines in the upper-left corner to view the following options: My Drive Incoming Recent On Device 14
15 Episode: Files On Device ü The Google Mobile apps allow you to access and work on files even when you don t have an connection. ü Understanding How Google Stores Your Files The files in your account are stored on Google s computers. This means that files are not directly on your mobile device. The option allows you to a copy of the file onto your device that can then be accessed at any time. ü Using the On-Device Option 1. Start by opening any,, or file. 2. In the upper-right corner, select the icon of three stacked. 3. Choose the on option. 4. A gray bar will appear across the of the screen that reads, Making Files. 5. The is now stored on your and can be accessed when you don t have an Internet connection. 6. The next time your device has an connection, any changes made to your files while offline will be updated on Google s remote computers. ü Making files accessible offline requires some ahead, but can really be a useful feature of the Google mobile apps. 15
16 Episode: Settings and Multiple Accounts ü The menu is a bit hidden, but offers some great options for using the Google mobile apps, including the ability to switch between multiple Google. ü Managing Multiple Accounts 1. Start by opening the,, or app. 2. Click on the icon of three in the upper-left corner. 3. Tap on your name and a new window will appear. 4. Select Add and you will be prompted to enter your other Google address and passwor 5. Click in and the belonging to your other account will begin to appear. 6. Return to your previous Google account by clicking on the three, choosing your account, and selecting the you wish to use. ü Removing Accounts From a Device 1. In the settings menu, tap your name. 2. The Select window will appear; click on the button located in the upper-right corner. 3. Tap the red button next the account you wish to delete from the device, and then select Remove. Note that the account still on Google s system, it has just been removed from that specific. ü It is recommended that you use a or Google account for work, and a separate account for use. 16
17 Episode: Share and Export ü Google s mobile apps offer tools that allow you to on files with others. ü Files can be with other users, or into different types of files. ü Sharing and Exporting Files 1. Start by opening the Sheets app, but this can also be done using the or apps as well. 2. a file that you wish to share or export. 3. The Share option allows you to provide access to your file with other people that have their own account. ii. Notice that you can add the of someone in your school or district and their address will automatically appear iii. After selecting the permissions you desire, tap in the upper-right corner. v. A list of people with to the file will appear next to the word, allowing you to adjust the permissions of the file. Note that regardless of the permissions you choose, a of the file can be made by anyone who has been shared on the document. 17

20 Episode: Details ü The option within each of the Google mobile apps offers additional functionality for this set of tools. ü Exploring the Details Options in the Docs, Sheets, and Slides Apps 1. Launch any of the above-mentioned apps. 2. Select the icon of three stacked in the upper-right corner of the screen. 3. Choose the word. 4. Information about the file will appear, allowing you the option of changing the of the file by selecting the icon. ü Exploring the Details Options in the Drive App 1. Begin by launching the app. 2. Then select to bring up a window with the following two options: ü Google Cloud Print Selecting this print option allows you to choose between two different kinds of printers: Cloud Ready Printers Classic Printers ü Setting Up a Classic Printer 1. Make sure you have a connected to a. 2. Also, make sure the computer has the web browser downloaded and installe 3. Use Chrome to log into your account. 4. Select the icon of three lines in the upper-right corner and choose the word. 5. Click on the words in small blue print that read Show. 6. Scroll down to locate the words Google and choose. 7.
