1 Apple ID and Apps for February 2017 Dear Parents, In Term Three the Grade Four students will be using an app called itunesu to access classwork for their Integrated Studies topics throughout the year. itunes U brings together the classroom discussion with the apps and materials students will need during the topic. Students will also require some new (free) apps and their own headphones, in addition to, the previous school app list. For access to itunes U students will require their own Apple ID and password for access at school and we have listed below two options for you to set these up for your child. To ensure we have a smooth start for all students, we are asking parents to help set-up and ensure their child s ipad is organized, with the necessary apps and resources installed, prior to Monday 13 th February Apple ID Set-Up Option A: Use the current Apple ID Username and Password for the child s ipad. If you choose this method, we strongly suggest ensuring the account has no credit card linked to the app store. Option B: (preferred method) Create a new itunes Username and Password using the child s school Google Account. Instructions for setting up an account can be found at Alternatively, you can follow the instructions on the attached page. (Remember you can always switch between accounts to download apps from a home shared account) Your Child s School Google and Password: Your child s school Google address and password is made from their school id. Your child should know their username and password, however if they have forgotten it please us. After creating your child s itunes account, please ensure the child knows the username, and password. Sometimes it can be handy to put this as a note in Notes on the ipad, as your child will require this to access lesson content during the term. 1

Make sure you limit your screen time at home Always keep your ipad safe Keep it in the case when transporting it around at all times. Keep it safe inside your zipped school bag on your way to and from school Don t take it outside unless it s part of a class and you re with a teacher You are responsible for your ipad! That means you know who uses it, how it s used and the content on it. NO EXCUSES! 2

3 At Home The fun starts now It s now time to set up your ipad with your parents. Please visit This web page will show you how to connect the ipad to the computer and creating an Apple ID to register with itunes so you can start downloading the Apps you need. There are also instructions for creating an Apple ID at the end of this document. Remember your parents may need some help, so be sure to explain to them what you are doing. With so many Apps available on the itunes App Store for ipads, you can imagine how long is has taken us to select applications that best suit our school and students. As we progress further into our program the students will no doubt find applications that best suit their learning and we strongly emphasize that this App list is a work in progress and will continue to evolve. We feel that all of the Apps below will be used to varying capacities in our classrooms and we ask that you download these onto your ipad. Be aware that your class teacher might also add to this list later in the year. Education Mathletics Education Numbers Apple s equivalent of PowerPoint, students can create professional presentations quickly and easily, about any topic that they wish. Lightbot is great fun and does a surprisingly thorough job of introducing some pretty complex principles of programming. An excellent application for practicing your math number skills! Improve your mental computation by adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. MathBoard Fractions consists of activities that will teach terms, provide interactive examples, quiz knowledge, as well as walk through solutions. Using Mathletics at school or at home? Now you can take your mathematics lessons anywhere with the great Mathletics app for ipad - and with the new OFFLINE mode, you really can access just about anywhere! Numbers is a spreadsheet App for mobile devices. It lets you make spreadsheets in minutes with tables, charts, photos, and $14.99 $4.99 $

8 Setting Up an Apple ID Account On an iphone, ipad, or ipod touch 1. Open the App Store, itunes Store, or ibooks Store. 2. Choose any free app, song, video, or book. 3. Tap Get next to the item, then tap again to get it. 4. When you're asked to sign in with an Apple ID, tap Create New Apple ID. 8

9 5. Follow the onscreen instructions. When you're asked for payment information, choose None. See what to do if None isn't showing or you can't select it. 6. After you enter all of the information required, you'll be asked to verify your Apple ID by . You must verify your Apple ID before you can begin using it. Didn't receive the ? If you use Family Sharing, and you re the family organizer, you can t set your payment information to None. You'll need to use a credit card or debit card. On a Mac or PC 1. Open itunes, then go to the itunes Store by clicking the itunes Store button at the top of the window. 2. Scroll down and find the country flag in the lower-right corner of the window. If it's not the flag of the country where you live, click it and choose your country or region. 9

10 3. Go to the App Store, Music, TV Shows, or Books section of the store by clicking on one of the icons in the upper-left corner. 4. Download a free app, song, video, or book. To find free items, look in the right column of the window and click any link that includes the word "," such as " on itunes" or "Top." When you find a free item, click Get beneath its icon. 5. When you're asked to sign in with an Apple ID, click Create Apple ID. 6. Follow the onscreen instructions. When you're asked for payment information, choose None as the payment type.
