I. INTRODUCTION This document outlines the installation of print servers using HPM (Host Print Manager) version 7. It will cover the various methods of install, new installations, upgrades from previous versions of HPM and installing HPMv7 as an Application or a Service in Windows. It will also cover some informational items that may assist you in support and troubleshooting. HPMv7 allows Go!Res 4.x users to print non-accountable host documents to one of the various certified Worldspan GDS printers as well as printers configured and run through the Windows Operating System (see minimum requirements for certified OS s). This would include any printer configured using Windows print drivers such as USB or network printers that were unsupported on previous versions of HPM. Note that accountable document (ticket) printers are still required to be run using Worldspan approved GDS Printers and cabling with HPMv7 installed. HPMv7 uses the familiar Web HPM Configuration screens that were developed in past product releases with enhancements for the new features. The product can be configured from single or multiple Print Servers running HPM to utilize the same network resource or printer for various Host device addresses. This offers greater flexibility for large agencies with diverse departments and for small agencies seeking to use the same physical device for Hardcopies and Itineraries. HPMv7 has one of two modes of operation it can be configured for and also uninstalls any previous version of HPM or HPF automatically upon installation. It can be installed to be launched as an Application or as a Service. Application is the standard operating mode for current and previous versions of HPM and should be used by the vast majority of agencies during configuration. The Application launches as it always has from the Startup group. Worldspan recommends agencies use the HPM Application unless there is a solid technical requirement on your network to run it as a Service. The HPMv7 Service is meant for a select few and requires additional processes for configuration with technical expertise required. As with any Service, HPMv7 would launch and run printers and devices configured through it without requiring a user to log onto the Print Server. To recap, the Product Features listed above for HPMv7 are: Allows printing of non-accountable host documents to Worldspan GDS approved or Windows Print Driver supported printers (USB, network, etc). Uses the familiar HPM Web Configuration screens developed on past releases of HPM. Allows network resources and printers to be cross utilized for multiple Host device addresses. Runs as an Application. This is the recommend configuration for the majority of users. Runs as a Windows Service, logging onto the computer is not required. This may need advanced configuration requiring special technical expertise. The installation process uninstalls previous and current versions of HPM or HPF. II. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS / ENVIRONMENT The minimum software and hardware requirements for using HPMv7 are: Internet Explorer (IE) browser version 5.5 or above Windows 2000 SP1, Windows 2000 Server or XP Professional Edition. HPMv7 must be installed prior to configuring or re-configuring any print devices. If the print server also has Go! Res installed, the Go! Res version should be client 19 or higher. Special case configurations when a client version drop back is required should be investigated before attempted and HPMv7 should always be reloaded after a client drop back to ensure the correct API version is running for it to function. Print Servers must meet the minimum PC requirements published in the Go! Tool Kit. Access this information at: %20Minrequirements.htm Print Servers must be connected to the network and have internet access before configuration. If a firewall is involved, ports 80, 443 and 4000 (outbound) must be open. The user must be logged in with full Administrator rights to the local pc in order to load and configure HPMv7. After initial install a non-administrative (power user) login can be used to launch and run the application or Service. Run the Go! Res Diag Tool before you begin, to identify possible issues and pitfalls. Access the Go! Diag Tool at: Setup and connect all equipment before beginning the installation of HPMv7. 2

HPM will automatically launch on reboot identified by a small printer icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen in the tray, next to the clock and any other items that auto-launch on this pc. After restart, the HPM icon appears in the tray. HPM has launched and is active! 19. At this point you should issue documents to test all configured printers. 20. To assist in future support we advise that you should label all printers with the address (LEID), document type function (ticket, invoice, etc), and the COM, LPT port or Windows Print Driver it is attached to. Please do so, this is one of the first things you will be asked if you call Worldspan for printer support VII. HPM AS A SERVICE, ADVANCED CONFIGURATION When using HPMv7 as a Service there are possible advanced configuration items that may need to be performed in order to have the service run successfully. We highly recommend that unless there is a valid technical reason to use HPM Service that you always configure HPM as an Application. When configuring devices that use a file (Tairs or Fastclip) to a network path (UNC naming) you may be required to perform additional steps. It is important to note that HPM as a Service can not use mapped drives; you must use the UNC network name of the Windows device. Local drives on the actual computer HPM Service is running on is a legitimate configuration. HPM Service using UNC path for a printer. It can be any Windows Print Device available. HPM Service using UNC path for a printer. 17
HPM Service must be a UNC path for Tairs or FastClip to a network drive. HPM Service must be a UNC path for Tairs or FastClip to a network drive. A. CONFIGURING AN EXISTING OR NEW DEVICE IN HPM CONFIG TO UNC PATH 1. Access the device in HPM Configuration by clicking once on the plus in front of the HPM_XXXXXX_00X device in the Configured Device list. Then click once on the device name. In the example below we have clicked on FastClip. Old mapped drive path for FastClip or Tairs must be changed to a UNC when running HPM Service. 18
2. As stated, to run as a Service this must be changed to the UNC network path. Click on the Browse button. 3. The Windows browse box appears. Click the back folder icon until you can see My Network Places in the display. Click on the back folder icon until My Network Places is visible. 4. Click on My Network Places and browse the network to the device and folder level where the file is stored on the network. Once you are there click the Save button. Browse to the folder level and click Save. 19
5. The correct UNC path will now display. Change any other devices that may be using mapped drives to UNC paths and then click Save to store your changes. Reboot the computer to relaunch HPM. B. ADVANCED CONFIGURATION, ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS, HPM SERVICE The screen Captures below are in Windows XP. In Windows 2000 you will not have the extended view panel that allows control to Start and Stop the Service without accessing its properties or menu panel. In Windows 2000 and in Windows XP you can access Stop and Start of services by right clicking the service and using the popup menu or from the popup menu, accessing Properties and the general tab. As stated above XP has the additional extended view to Stop or Start without accessing any further menus. Worldspan has added one additional convenient method to Start or Stop the HPM Service. Click on Start, click Run, type HPMstop or HPMstart in the Run dialog box and click OK. In some cases HPM as a Service will not launch and properly run the devices you have configured on the network. The reason is because the user level access you have configured on your computer does not have sufficient rights to access the network device. To resolve this you must change the user level of the Service. Note: Once you have changed the User Account for the Service, the HPM icon will no longer show in the tray (lower right hand corner) of your screen. 1. To setup the Service to run under the appropriate User Account in Windows Service Control Manager: Click on Start, (Settings - Win2000 only), select Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and Services: 2. Move to the bottom of the list and right-click on Worldspan HPM, click on Properties and select the Logon Tab: 20
3. After consulting with the local IT administrator at the agency for the account, click on the This account radio button. Enter the user account with access to the network drive, enter the password, reenter the password and select OK 4. The final step is stopping and restarting HPM to enable the above changes. While still in the Service Properties, click on the General tab and select Stop. 21
5. Wait a moment for this popup to complete its process. 6. Now, click on Start to relaunch the Service. Again wait a moment as it completes this process. 7. Click OK, and then exit the Services menu. *** IMPORTANT NOTE: The HPM Icon will no longer be visible on the Taskbar tray with this configuration. HPM will continue to run as a service. NO ICON in the TRAY! 22
VIII. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON HPM We discussed in the previous section how to manage HPM as a Service. Here we will discuss stopping and starting HPM the Application. We will also discuss some of the differences you will see between the two when the HPM icon is in the tray (user rights to Service were not changed) and how to determine which version you have installed. A. STARTING AND STOPPING HPM CONFIGURED AS AN APPLICATION 1. Stopping HPM: Right click on the HPM icon from the system tray and select Close HPM. 2. The HPM icon will disappear from the desktop system tray and will not run Host printer devices until restarted. 3. Starting HPM: Select Start, Programs, Startup, and then click on HPM in the Startup Group menu. The HPM icon will be displayed in the system tray and Host printers configured to this computer should resume operation. 4. A reboot will also automatically start HPM once a device is configured. This is the preferred method when you have newly configured or reconfigured printers, or have just upgraded your software version. B. DETERMING THE VERSION AND MODE OF HPM THAT IS RUNNING There are three methods to determine which version and mode of HPM is running on the Print Server. Method 1 1. From the system tray right click on the HPM icon. There are two possible views below. One as an Application and the other as a Service. Select the Status menu item.. Application Service 2. The Title bar of the dialog will display the HPM Mode Type, the HPM Program Version and the Print Server Name. In the first screen capture HPM is running as a Service. It will say HPM Application as in the second snapshot if it is running as such. 23
3. Here is the complete view. As you can see the types of devices and how they are attached on your network, as well as activity information is listed here. This can all be of great assistance when troubleshooting a problem. Method 2 1. Again from the system tray right click on the HPM icon. There are two possible views below. One as an Application and the other as a Service. Select the About HPM menu item in your menu. Application Service 2. Depending on which mode you are running in you will get one of the two following displays. Application Service 24
Method 3 1. From within Host Print Manager Configuration (HPM Config). Click on the HPM_XXXXXX_00X device configured to this Local Machine. Click on the HPM device listed under Local Machine. 2. One of the following views will display in the center top of the Configuration screen based on whether you are configured as an Application or a Service. This view may be the only way to determine this information when you have chosen to run HPM as a Service and had to change the User rights to the Service, therefore losing access to the HPM tray icon. Application Service 3. As you can see above, just as with choosing Status from the tray icon you get information on the mode of operation, the version and the HPM device name. C. OTHER INSTANCES OF HPM ON THE NETWORK & DA ASSIGNMENT Some installations require the use of multiple Print Servers on the network. It is important to note that each Host Printer device address (DA) assigned to your agency may only be configured once in HPM Config. This is an important point for previous HPF users. You can not configure a Host device address to more than one GDS or Windows print device. No combinations for dual usage will be allowed in the HPM Configuration process. If you have the need to for example; print Itineraries to more than one printer, you will need to contact your Worldspan Representative and have an additional Host device address for this purpose added to your database. Conversely, a Windows Print Device on the network may be used multiple times by HPM or other instances of HPM to configure additional printer resources or file traffic to the same physical device. This type of configuration might be used in a large agency to allow two entities within the company to each use their own Host printer address to print Itineraries, yet have both share the same physical printer resource. In other agency settings it may allow the same instance of HPM using two Host addresses to configure to the same Windows printer. An example would be two unique addresses for Hardcopy and Itinerary printing. Both could be attached to the same USB printer through HPM configuration. 25
Below is an example of two Machines configured for HPM sharing the same physical printer resource. 1. The first snapshot shows that Local Machine, HPM_194520_001 uses the Epson Stylus 6400 to print Hardcopies. This Local Machine and Host address uses the Epson for Hardcopies. 2. The second view from the same instance of HPM shows that Remote Machine HPM_194520_002 also uses the Epson Stylus 6400 to print Hardcopies. This Remote Machine uses the same Epson printer with a different Host address configured to it. Each instance of HPM must be configured to the Local Machine that will run HPM. The program must be installed and configured on each Local Machine that will function as a Worldspan Print Server. Do not attempt to remotely manage or configure printers through HPM Config, this is not allowed. It must be done from the Local Machine running the HPM program for the Host printers in question. 26
HPM Config does allow a view access of other computers and the Host devices configured to them for your agency from within HPM Config on any Worldspan Print Server attached to the same database. This view can show more than just the Worldspan Print Servers on your local network. It will show any Worldspan Print Server configured using Host printer device addresses from the common database of your agency. Something as simple as a home user configured with FastClip will be visible from other network Print Servers configured for HPM and sharing this common database. Local Machine and its configured Host Device. Remote Machine on the network and the Host devices configured to it. Remote Machine, a home user with a Host device of FastClip configured. D. HPM ERROR MESSAGES ON REBOOT If you receive one of the following popup errors on reboot of the computer, while launching the Application or while starting the Service, HPM has no devices configured. This is most likely because you chose to reboot after Install HPM.exe and did not first run HPM Config to configure devices or forgot to Save your configuration before reboot. Please click OK and proceed to Section VI to configure devices. 27
