Upload Tests from Respondus to Blackboard Before uploading your tests to Blackboard, verify that you have the current version of Respondus. If you do not have the current version of Respondus, you will not be able to successfully upload your exams. The instructions to check and update Respondus are listed below. Check for Respondus Updates: To manually verify if an update is available for Respondus use the Check for Update tool, found in the Help menu bar. Respondus will return a message indicating whether an upgrade is available. If an upgrade to Respondus is available, you can let Respondus download the required file(s) automatically and update the software for you. This is the easiest way to apply a patch or upgrade. Upload Tests from Respondus to Bb 2_2012 Page 1 of 7
Check Respondus Personality (Learning Management System Environment): You will only have to make this setting once. If you use two different LMSs then you will need to modify the personality to the appropriate LMS. Greenville Technical College is only using one LMS and that is Blackboard Learn 9.1. The Current Personality should be set to: Blackboard 7.x 9.x. Note: The personality should display in the header Preview & Publish Tab Once your tests are created you should review them before you publish/upload them to Blackboard. Previewing a Test 1. Select the Preview & Publish tab. 2. Select Preview tab from the menu on the left. 3. Click the Preview the File button to review the exam. Upload Tests from Respondus to Bb 2_2012 Page 2 of 7
4. The Preview Window appears and displays the following: 1 The question and choice options appear in this area. 2 The answer choices appear in this area and the correct answer is in green. 3 Point value assigned to the question displayed are shown here. 4 You can enter a number and click the Go To button to jump to a specific question number. 5 Use the Prev. and Next buttons to move one question at a time. 6 If you see an error in the question or answer, click the Modify Item button to jump to the Edit screen. 7 Once you are finished previewing the files/test click either of these to exit the preview screen and return to the Respondus Preview & Publish tab. Publish Wizard 1. Click Publish to Blackboard button from the menu on the left to access the Publish Wizard button 2. Click the Publish Wizard button to display the Publish Wizard dialog box 3. Select Publish to Single Course. If publishing to multiple sections you should select Batch Publish to multiple courses. 4. Choose an existing server or add new server to add settings information for a new server. If you do not have an existing server you will need to select add new server and see the document: GTC Blackboard Server Information for Respondus. 5. Select the Next button. If you did not indicate for Respondus to remember your Blackboard Username and password when you setup the server settings, you will be prompted to enter it before you move to the next screen. 4 Selecting the Course, Naming the Exam, Setting the Option 1. Select the course where you want the exam published (Step 1) 2. Step 2 Create or Replace Exam/Survey or Pool. If you are creating a new exam/survey in Blackboard select the first radio button and enter the name you want to new exam or survey to have. If you are replacing an existing exam/survey, select the exam or survey you are replacing from the drop down list. 3. Step 3 - Select the Additional Options settings you would like to apply to the exam. Apply Random Blocks to Exam Apply Settings to Exam Link Exam to Content Area and make Available If you have setup any random blocks (i.e. question sets) to the exam, this needs to be selected to apply those random blocks when the test is uploaded. These are the same settings you find in Blackboard s Test Options. If this is selected, then the next option will also be selected. If this option is selected, you will be asked to select on the Next screen the Content Area in the course where the test or survey will be deployed. 4. Click the Next button Upload Tests from Respondus to Bb 2_2012 Page 4 of 7
Deployment location If you have selected the last two options in step 3 the next window in the Publish Wizard has you select the location to publish the exam. 1. Select the Content Area: folder; subfolder; or learning module where you intend to deploy the test. 2. Click the Next button. Upload Tests from Respondus to Bb 2_2012 Page 5 of 7
Upload Status The status of the upload displays in the Publish Wizard s next window. 1. Each step of the upload process is listed 2. If there is an error with this upload, verify you have the correct version and updates installed before trying again. 3. Select the Finish button to finish and close the window. Upload Tests from Respondus to Bb 2_2012 Page 6 of 7
Verify Exam s Deployment in Blackboard Once that the exam has been uploaded from Respondus to Blackboard, verify that the exam is located in the correct location. Login as your Test Student and take the exams prior to your students taking the exam. Note: Exams uploaded through Respondus are added to the test category. If an uploaded test is in an incorrect category, this category can be changed in the Full Grade Center by Clicking the Action Menu for the exam s column and selecting Edit Column Information.
