1 MRU Secure Remote Access Service (SRAS) External User Guide The MRU Secure Remote Access Service (SRAS) allows MRU approved vendor and external client restricted remote access to MRU internal computing resources. 3 Operation Guides This is a quick starting guide covering the following common operations: 1. Access the SRAS service 2. Remote desktop (RDP) to a computer inside MRU network 3. 4 1. Access the service Enter secure.mtroyal.ca/vendor into the address/url field of a browser without the quotes. Enter your MRU username and password. lick the button to continue. MRU Secure Remote Access Service (SRAS) External User Guide rev Nov 2017 Page 4

5 Once you have successfully logged on, the following page will be displayed. Please wait until it s done. In case you are prompted with the following screen, point the cursor over the Download icon and left click the mouse to download the Pulse Secure App Launcher program. 6 Locate the downloaded PulseSecureAppLauncher.msi file which normally saved in the Download folder. Double click to run it. When the following screen displayed, check the Remember my choice for pulse secure links and click the Open Link button. The following screen will re-appear again. lick the Try Again link at the bottom to continue. Then your home page will display all of the services that SRAS provides you as shown below. 7 Key elements on your home page: User Toolbar Description lick to go back to your home page shown above. lick to activate the user preference configuration page. This is just a display on how much longer your session will remain open as long as it has not been idle for more than 15 minutes. This example shows 9 hours 57 minutes remaining. lick to bring up the online user help manual. lick to sign out of the Juniper connection. Please sign out once the service is not needed. Service Pane Terminal Sessions pane Description This allows users run Remote Desktop (RDP) to internal MRU computers which they have been granted access to. Sometime this service is referred to as Microsoft Terminal Services. This provides different levels of VPN/network access into MRU internal environment. 8 2. Remote desktop (RDP) to a computer inside MRU network Note: This is only for P running with Microsoft Windows systems. If you have P running with other operating system, you will have to use Use Pulse Secure client feature (section 3) and the RDP client of your choice to connect. The Terminal Sessions Pane provides you this capability. lick the link provided to access the computer if you are using a Microsoft platform. Otherwise, you may need to follow section 3 below. 3. Use Pulse Secure lient You may need to use the Pulse Secure client (PS) under certain circumstances, for example: o o You are not using a Microsoft Windows based P remotely but need remote desktop (RDP) into a Microsoft Windows computer on MRU campus. The link on Terminal Sessions Panel will not work as Microsoft remote desktop client is not natively supported on the remote system. You will need to start the Pulse Secure lient and run your RDP client of your choice on your system. You may have been allowed other network access to computer on campus such as SSH to Linux servers. lick the Start button in the lient Application Session service pane to start up the Pulse Secure service. For the first time use, it will install the software on your system and the software will stay resident permanently. Please follow the on screen instructions to allow the installation. 9 Wait until the PS icon appears on the computer task bar/menu bar. Please note that the icon color scheme may vary from one operating system to the other but they all have the S shape symbol in the middle. Once the PS is installed, you can connect to SRAS by just clicking its icon without using a browser. However, it has limitations that you will not be able to access the network files/folders, the quick web link and Terminal Service link. The PS needs initial configuration by following the steps below: o lick the PS icon to bring up the configuration menu o lick the Open Pulse Secure menu bar to set up the SRAS connection if it s not already done so. o lick to display the connection configuration screen. 10 You can set your own Name. But the Server URL is secure.mtroyal.ca without the quotes unless advised otherwise. lick use. to add the configuration for future If you only need network connection such as RDP to your MRU computer on campus: o You can just click the icon. o lick Open Pulse Secure to launch the PS window o lick the connect button to connect SRAS. o The PS icon will change to when the connection was successful. To disconnect, just repeat the steps immediately above but instead of onnect, the Disconnect button will show up. lick the Disconnect button to disconnect. 11 4. Session timeout SRAS will time out user session which has been idle for more than 15 minutes. The system will prompt the user with the following message. Just click OK to continue. It may ask you for user name and password again. Most of the time, system can resume the last state the user was in when the session was timed out. Also, the maximum session time for each successful log on is 10 hours to save system resources. 5. Remove the old Network onnect software Please remove the old Network onnect software components from your system as a good practice even it s not technically necessary. They are shown below within the red rectangle as an example for Microsoft Windows ontrol Panel. Hoover the cursor over the items, right click the mouse and click uninstall.
