Page 3 Introduction IAR provides a vehicle for recording Livestock activities of an Individual Animal, and the traits and development of those animals. PAM IAR production recording is integrated into the existing Livestock recording system. All Individual Animal activities remain consistent with the existing Livestock Activities Add Wizard recording system. The following topics will explain how to: Set up a List of Visual IDs (Ear Tags) Assign those Tags to Individual Animals Assign the Identity of an Individual Animal to a Stock Class (Mob) Set up Individual Animal Traits, Tasks and Weight Some of the Features of IAR include: Mobs can be nominated as having Individually Identified Animals (or not) You can have a mob of mixed Identified and Unidentified. Animals can be defined as Off Farm and they don t belong to any PAM mob. These animals are typically the sires used in AI programs and the dead or absent ancestors of the current list of animals. Importing of Electronic ID tag identification files Importing of custom comma delimited text files to establish a list of animals or to add trait or weight data to a list of animals. When setting up mobs of identified animals, you can select a set of traits from your trait list, enter default values for them and apply those traits and values to all animals. Recording of Single Animal Treatments, Movements, Animal Traits, Weights and BreedPlan records. Trait information for an animal can be highly customised and multiple Traits can be grouped into Tasks for easier data entry.

Page 4 Chapter 3 You can design your own unlimited list of traits. Trait types include: Text, Number, and Date, Yes/No etc You can even set up your own Pick List system. Formulas for calculating custom user information using traits can also be used. Monitoring of matings (Natural, AI, IVF, and ET) and pregnancy tests for Dams and Sires. Progeny for an animal can be traced, displayed and printed. Bloodline Family Tree. On screen reporting enables you to quickly find an individual and see its movements, treatments, progeny etc. Finding an individual when needed is fast a special filter system enables you to close in the animal quickly. The filter system also remembers its settings for next time to save time. Menu Options Getting Started in IAR NB: Traditionally in PAM we have used the terminology Mob Code to describe a group of animals with similar characteristics. In the help file we will also refer to this as a Stock Class. The term Mob is generally accepted as a group of animals running together in a paddock, whereas a Stock Class describes animals with similar characteristics. Members of a single stock class can be running in one or more paddocks.

Page 5 Customising PAM for IAR First, go to Configuration / Customise your PAM program Individual Animals Tab where you will find various configuration options. Read the instructions carefully and select your options. Some of the options can only be set after entering other information. For example, your choice of Traits to assign for the special Weights Birth Weight, Selling Weight and the weight trait you will use when altering body weights in PAM s Livestock Activities Diary. If in doubt with this last option, set up a trait called Liveweight or just LW and use that trait for your regular weighings..

Page 6 Chapter 3 Setting up a List of Ear Tags (Visual IDs) The first job is to set up a list of Tag Numbers. These tags are then assigned to animals, then you assign those animals to their Stock Classes or assign them as Off Farm animals. To set up a list of tag numbers: Click on the Individual Animals menu item on the main screen. Select Ear tags / Visual ID list Click on the Create button to start creating new ear tag numbers

Page 7 This screen gives you a lot of options and flexibility when setting up a list of eartags. If your stock are to be registered in the NLIS database, the NLIS code for each animal can be set up here as well. or If you have a Tag Bucket file from your EID tag supplier you can import the Tag data directly using the Import Allflex

Page 8 Chapter 3 Tag Bucket file button. Once finished with the creation of the ear tags or Visual IDs, the list you have created will appear in the Unassigned Panel.

Page 9 Visual IDs (ear tags) that are not assigned to animals who are members of a PAM stock class or designated as an Off Farm animal remain in the unassigned panel until they are assigned to animals. Assigning Visual IDs (Tags) to Animals This screen enables you to assign a list of tags to animals. At the same time as you assign tags to animals you can tell PAM extra information about the animals by setting and selecting options at the bottom of this screen. Traits like: Sex, Date of Birth, Sire ID, Dam ID etc. can be assigned by setting the appropriate items on the left side of the screen and general traits can be assigned by setting up the right side of the screen. The steps for assigning your Visual IDs (Tags) to animals: Click on the Individual Animals menu item on the main screen. Then select Assign Ear Tags and Traits to Animals. Select the Visual IDs (Tags) on the left side of the panel and move them to the right hand side using the arrow buttons or by double clicking on the visual IDs in the list. If there are no Visual IDs (tags) available then you have not yet set up the list of Tags or Visual IDs. You should click the Ear tag /

Page 10 Chapter 3 Visual ID list button and refer the steps above in the section titled Set up List of Ear Tags (Visual IDs) on Page 6. Fill in the animals details and add or remove traits as desired as shown in the pictures below Please Note: If you do nothing else, please assign the SEX of the animals at this time. All other traits and animal details can be easily added later in the Individual Animal Records Main Screen. On the bottom right section of this screen you can set up a list of other traits and assign values to them for each animal or group of animals, if applicable. Access the setup screen for all traits Add and remove trait items that you want to record at this time. This list of trait items was added here by clicking on the Insert Trait button and choosing the traits. Please note the date for all the traits is the date that will be recorded in the database against those traits.

Page 11 Save the information for the selected animals by clicking the Apply button. The list of animals that you had selected will now disappear from the screen Repeat the steps above until your task is finished. If you need to quickly clear all the data that you have set up in the Animal Information section of the screen (i.e. the bottom left section) click on the Clear Common Details button. When all animals have been set up, close the window by clicking the Close button The Visual IDs (Tags) will then appear in the New Animal List. Assigning Identity of Animals If you didn t use the Paddock/Mob option in the previous screen (Assign Ear Tags and Traits to Animals ), the next task in the sequence is to adding the tagged animals to PAM stock classes. Please Note: Tagged animals with their sex selected as male can only be assigned to Stock Classes that were (or will be) defined as male (the same goes for the Females and Neuters), however Stock Classes or Mob Codes with a Mixed Sex selected can be assigned any type of tagged animals. How do you assign your tagged animals to PAM Stock Classes? Click on the Individual Animals menu item on the main screen. Select Assign/Unassign Tagged Animals to/from Mobs from the Tools menu Select the Livestock Category, from the picklist, for the mob(s) you want to deal with. Click on the Row displaying the mob of animals to assign tagged animals.

Page 12 Chapter 3 Click on the Assign Identities button. Move the tagged animals from the left of the panel to the right to assign the animals to the selected mob. Click the OK button to finish. You can also Un-Assign animals from mobs in this area of the program. On the first screen, simply click on the UnAssign button to do that. Individual Animal Traits, Tasks and Weights Using the IAR system you can record any number of animal traits. There is no limit. Trait recording can often involve recording values for several traits. To make this less onerous, you can associate a set of traits into a Task. Tasks are simply a set of traits that will be entered together. To simplify things, we have regarded Body Weights as special traits. They are set up separately to the main traits so we can perform calculations, like daily weight gain. To set up some traits go to the Configuration menu and select Individual Animals Traits, Tasks and Weights. This will display the

Page 13 Individual Animal Setup screen from which you can add, edit or remove Traits, Tasks or Weights. Setting up Trait Items To Add, Edit or Remove a Trait: Go to Configuration / Individual Animal Traits, Task and Weights

If you aren t you should read Chapter One of this manual to become aquainted with the Livestock Activities Diary and the Add Wiazard. Purchases Using the [ ] button Select or Create a Stock Class code and fill in the details Enter the purchase prices etc. then click Next.

Page 21 Assign the Tagged Animals to the Stock Class Code in the grid by moving them from the left of the panel to the right panel. If there no animals listed, you may need to use the Tools button option Add New Animals. Refer to assigning Visual IDs (Tags) for steps on how to add an animal. If you have created or selected more than one stock class (mob code), highlight on the next one in the list to assign tagged animals to that specific Mob Code Please Note: The number of identified and unidentified animals in that Mob Code is displayed on the grid at the top of the form.

Page 22 Chapter 3 Mob Movement Please Note: Due to the complexities involved, during an Individual Animal Mob Movement stock number adjustment is not permitted. If you need to record deaths or other tally alterations, please do this using Alter Mob Numbers prior to recording the Mob Movement. Highlight the Mobs that are going to be moved, then click on Next. Enter the number of animals to be moved. If you do not want an Individual Animal to be moved with the mob, the number entered must reflect this. Click on Next. Select the tagged animals for the highlighted mob and move them from the left panel to the right panel. Continue this for all the mobs and until the Finish button can be clicked. In the event of you selecting a mob of identified and unidentified animals it is possible to click on the Finish button even if none of the tagged animals have been moved to the right panel (justifying that the movement involves the unidentified animals from the mob). Record Mating Please Note: Due to the complexities involved, only one Dam Mob can be selected during one mating activity. Pregnancy Tests Please Note: Only one Dam Mob can be selected during one pregnancy activity. This process is quite comprehensive. We make every effort to associate pregnancy tests with mating records. For this to work efficiently we need rely on your data entry. However, relating pregnancy tests to matings may be of little value to you. That s ok. The system is flexible enough to cater. Select the mob to be tested

Page 23 Select the identified animals and set results for the selected animals by using the settings below the panel For each identified animal the mating record date is shown on the panel on the top right hand side (if it is known/found). It is possible to add a pregnancy test with no mating record by clicking on button Tools and select Add pregnancy test (with no mating record) To update the test results for the previous mating, click on the identified animal, then click to highlight the date of the mating record and click on the button select at the bottom right hand side of the screen and update the details For unidentified animals, enter the Total Multiples for all the unidentified animals in the mob at the bottom left of the screen Births Please Note: Due to the complexities involved, only one Dam Mob can be selected during one birth activity This is a very comprehensive process. Steps: Firstly you work the program in the same way that you would do for the non-iar PAM version. That is, the dam mob is selected. The total number of offspring is entered then the stock class (or classes) is/are selected or created using the Select/Create buttons. Click Next. After this process you will be asked to assign tagged animals to the offspring mob(s). Then you will be asked to select the identified mothers. The next process involves assigning offspring to their mothers. That is linking each Dam to its Offspring. These steps are as follows: Assign tagged animals to the new animals by moving them from the left panel to the right panel or add new tagged animals by clicking on the Tools button. Select Add New Animals. Refer to Assigning Visual IDs (Tags) for steps on how to add an animal. Click on Next.

Page 24 Chapter 3 Please Note: By avoiding to assign any tagged animals to the mobs indicates that these animals are unidentified Select the dams that were involved in this activity by moving them from the left panel to the right and until the Next button can be clicked. At the Select Offspring s Parents Wizard page you can associate each new offspring with its Dam and Sire. Highlight the tagged animal and update the details of that particular animal, finishing by clicking on the Apply button.

Page 25 Sales Steps: Select the Animal Mobs that are going to be sold. Enter details of the Sale and click on Next. Allocate the identified animals that are to be sold in each Mob by moving the tagged animals from the left panel to the right In the case of unidentified animals there is no need to do anything as they are automatically assigned. Click on Next Allocate cost by the selling method before finishing. Split and Join Stock Classes Please Note: Only one animal mob can be selected during one Split/Join stock classes. A mob with identified animals mob code cannot be Split from or Joined with a mob code with no identified animals in it, but the reverse is allowed Steps: Select the Mob to split or join to another stock class. Click on Next. Allocate the identified animals that are to split from or joined to the new mob code by moving the tagged animals from the left panel to the right panel. In the case of unidentified animals there is no need to do anything, as they are automatically assigned. Stock Transfer Out Steps: Select the Mobs to transfer out. Click on Next If all the identified animals in a mob are transferred out, the selection of the animals to be transferred out is automatically done. If the number of the identified animals transferred out is less than the total animals in that mob then the PAM allows the selection of these animals.

Page 26 Chapter 3 Select the identified animals that are to be transferred out by moving the tagged animals from the left panel of the screen to the right panel In the case of unidentified animals, there is no need to do anything as they are automatically assigned. Supplementary Feeding Steps: Select the Mobs that are to be fed and enter the numbers for these mobs. Click on Next. If all the identified animals in a mob are fed, the selection of the animals to be fed is automatically done. If the number of the identified animals fed is less than the total animals in that mob then the PAM allows the selection of these animals. Select the identified animals that are to be fed by moving the tagged animals from the left panel of the screen to the right panel. In the case of unidentified animals there is no need to do anything as they are automatically assigned. Veterinary and Manual Tasks Steps: Select the Animal Mobs that are to be treated and enter the numbers for these mobs. Click on Next. If all the identified animals in a mob are treated, the selection of the animals to be treated is automatically done for you. If the number of the identified animals treated is less than the total animals in that mob then the PAM allows the selection of the treated animals. Select the identified animals that were treated by moving them from the left panel of the screen to the right panel. In the case of unidentified animals there is no need to do anything as they are automatically assigned. Alter Mob Numbers Steps: Select the Mob to alter their numbers and fill in the details.

Page 28 Chapter 3 IAR Trait Browser How To The PAM IAR Trait Browser is a versatile screen where you can view animal lists and their trait data in a spreadsheet type layout create filtered lists using the built in filtering facilities print selected columns of data create a yard sheet by selecting columns of data and selecting a number of blank columns (for entering data in the yards) create special indexes using the formula builder merge trait columns together, and graph trends of multiple type traits over time Follow these steps to see the Trait Browser in action From the menu bar of PAM, select: Reports / Individual Animal Traits & Weights Browser... You can also access the Weights and Traits browser via the IAR screen:

Page 29 On your way to the Trait Browser, you select the animals and the traits you want to display: Let s look at the steps to select the options on this screen: Step 1: Select Animals to include in the trait browser view. Please Note: If you have pre-selected a list of animals in the IAR Main Screen, that list will be automatically displayed on this screen. You can choose a different list of animals if you desire, by using the Show Animals button. Please Note: The Always include selected Animals with no Trait or Weight Data check box. Let s assume you want to show a selected

Page 30 Chapter 3 list of animals and their birth weights. If you want to see only those animals which had a birth weight recorded, then you would leave the check box un-ticked. If you want see all animals, even those whose birth weights were not recorded, you should tick the check box. This option can be very useful when you are using the Trait Browser to produce a Yard Sheet. It would enable you to easily locate animals that did not have a particular trait recorded (e.g. a birth weight). Step 2: Select Other Traits and Animal Details and Step 3: Select Traits and Weights Depending on the reason for using the Trait Browser at any particular time, you may or may not have a need to display certain animal information and traits. In PAM certain traits are hard wired (not user defined) and there are those which are user defined (or perhaps generated by PAM as a result of you customising it e.g. Breedplan traits). Step 4: Select Date Range Certain traits are date related. These are typically the Multiple type traits. If you need to confine your data set to a certain date range for those types of traits do so by setting the range. You can choose to display data for all time by leaving the Filter multiple Trait and Weight records by Date Range check box unticked. Having chosen the list of animals to display and their associated traits and information items, click on the Generate Report button to proceed to the Trait Browser screen.

Page 31 Printing the data To print certain columns, click on the Select Print/Export Fields button. Now click on the column headings to select them for printing. By default, the Visual ID column will always be printed. In the example above, the Visual ID, Nickname, Right Eye Pigment and Breed columns will be printed and the other won t. Exporting the data You may have a need from time to time to export selected data to another computer. Data exported from here can be imported into MS Excel or any other spreadsheet program for further massaging. For example, by default PAM exports the Visual ID column this may not be required in your exported data. If this is the case, simply import the data into a spreadsheet and delete the Visual ID column. You get the choice of exporting to a comma delimited file ( CSV ) or a tab delimited file or a space delimited file. MS Excel can import any of these file types. You can also choose to export the column headings (in the first line of the exported text file) or not. You can also change the names of the column headings to suit your particular needs. By default the exported column headings will be those that you set up in the Traits set up screen (Configuration/Individual Animal Trait, Tasks and Weights). To export the data for certain columns, click on the Select Print/Export Fields button. Now click on the column headings as you would to select them for printing. Now click on the Export button You will see this dialog.

Page 32 Chapter 3 You can change these column titles for the exported file Click here to create the export filename You can choose to the export file by ticking this check box. Sorting the data You can sort any column in the list by clicking the right mouse. Choose to sort the column in ascending or descending order. Please note: You can select more than one column. For example, you may want to order by Birth Weight and Sex.

Page 33 Creating a formula You can create calculated data columns by using the Calculated Fields button. For example, you might have a special formula for ranking merinos Fleece Weight + Body Weight / (Fibre Diameter X 10). Here are the steps, Click In the Apply formula screen, We want to click New to start building the new formula. Now enter the name you would like to give the formula (I ll use Hogget Ewes Index ) and any memory-jogging information you would like into the Comment field.

Page 34 Chapter 3 Now, we need to build the formula itself. The formula we want to build will look like this Steps: Insert a left bracket into the formula window by clicking on the button in the Operators box of options. Click on the Trait button (see below) and choose the Fleece Weight trait. Now click on the button Now select the Weight trait from the Weight button list of traits Now click on the right bracket button Now click on the divide sign button. Left click on the left bracket button Select Fibre Diameter from the Trait button list Now click on the multiply sign button Now click on the Constant button and enter the constant 10 Now click on the closing right bracket button That s it!! (so far!) Now we need to ensure PAM knows which columns of data we want to use in the calculation. If in the example we are working through, we had more than one Fleece weight or Body Weight or Fibre Diameter record for the selected animals, we would have to choose which of those records we are wanting to use in our calculation. In the example I am using, I have only one of each of these trait type records so I have no choices

Page 35 Use these buttons to highlight the traits in If the selected trait within the formula has been recorded more than once (i.e. on several dates), you must select the So I choose the Fleece Weight dated 6/11/2003 then click on the trait Weight button to move the highlighter on to the next Again I only have one Weight recorded for the selected animals so I again click on the button and again I only have one Fibre Diameter record for the selected animals so I can click OK to proceed Resulting Information The result of our formula building example can be seen here. The right-most column Hogget Ewes Index.

Page 36 Chapter 3 Now we can make use of the calculated field For example, we can then view a filtered list of animals that fall within the top 10%, or bottom 5% using the Filter by Percentage button Creating a special formula for Daily Live Weight Gain The steps: On the Select the list of animals and the weight trait that you are to use for the live weight gain formula. Note that your weight trait must be a multiple type trait Click on the Calculated Fields button to start the process and in the Apply Formula screen, Click New to start building the new formula. Now enter the name you would like to give the formula (I ll use ADLWG ) and any memory-jogging information you would like into the Comment field.

Page 37 Use the Weight button in the Insert box to select the multiple weight trait -> Body Weight To apply the average function on the weight selected we will need to select (or highlight) the Body Weight in the formula window by using the buttons. We now need to click the Average button in the Operators box and from the resulting Average Function screen, select Daily Variance and click OK. You will now see your formula: AVE(Body Weight). From here click OK, select the fields that

Page 38 Chapter 3 you would like to be included in the average weight calculations, Then click OK ALL DONE you will see a new field in the grid that represents the daily live weight gain for the selected animals. To delete a Calculated Field from your data view, right click on the column heading and select Delete Field

Page 39 Off Farm Animals Why would you need Off Farm Animals? Answer: When you use semen from an off-farm sire during AI mating or if you have a stud and want to include the dead or offfarm ancestors of your current animals in their bloodline family tree. How do I set up a list of Off Farm animals You will set up these individual animals in the same way you set up individuals that are on your farm. Let s look at creating 4 new Males Create the TAGS (Individual Animals / Ear Tags /Visual ID List then Create ) Then go to (Individual Animals / New Animal List Bulk Add ) Make sure that as you assign your 4 new tags to their animals, you tick the Off Farm check box. Note the Off Farm Check Box. This is the key to the system. If you forget to do this, you can rectify the situation later see below.

Page 40 Chapter 3 How do I set up Off Farm animals if I accidentally forgot to tick the check box If you have assigned the tags to animals but have not yet assigned the tagged animals to a mob then you will see your tagged animals in the Individual Animals / New Animal List window like this Don t despair!! Go to the main Individual Animals window Individual Animals / Individual Animal Records And use the Show Animals button and choose All Animals Unassigned to Any Mob option. This will display all your tagged animals that do not belong to a PAM mob (or stock class). Choose each tagged animal one by one and click on the Edit button

Page 41 Click on the Off Farm check box. Please Note: If you have created tagged animals and put them in PAM mobs but in fact they should belong to the Off Farm list, you can use Edit and rectify that here as well. How do I use my list of Off Farm animals? Example 1: Searching for a SireID when editing the details of one of your animals on the Search for Sire dialog click the Off Farm check box and then click on the Search button this will display a list of all the Off Farm Sires.

Page 42 Chapter 3 Example 2: When recording Matings in the livestock Add Wizard, you can choose your Sires from this dialog Off Farm Animals click here to access the list of off farm animals

Page 43 How to set up Weight Traits in PAM IAR You will need to set up at least one Weight Trait so you can record weights in the IAR system. To set up weight traits follow these steps: Go to Configuration / Individual Animal Traits, Tasks and Weights Add the weight traits that you will require on the Weight Items tab. If in doubt, only enter one weight trait call it Weight Or Body Weight or Live Weight and make sure you set the trait as a multiple type trait. Please Note: You may want to (or need to) set up weight traits like; Birth Weight, 100 day weight, 200 day weight, 400 day weight etc. In these cases, ensure that you set them up as single type traits as each animal can only have one Birth Weight or one 100 day weight. For the average daily live weight gain reports, PAM will use any of the weight traits that you have set up. So, if you want to get the average daily weight gain of an animal from birth through to its 400 day weight, PAM will use whichever weight records it can to do the calculation.

Page 44 Chapter 3 In the IAR Trait Browser screen you can export data. This is your default name for the How to enter weights in PAM IAR Method 1 On the IAR Main Screen, having selected your list of animals, 1. click on the Weights tab 2. now select the animal on the list, 3. click on the Add button, 4. select the appropriate weight trait item form the pick list and enter the weight. 5. Click OK then

Page repeat the steps for each animal. Method 2 1. Set up a Task in the Configuration / Individual Animal Traits, Tasks and Weights screen (which you can also assess via the Tools button at the top the IAR main screen, or the Tools button on the Weights tab) The task you set up can be called Weighing and add to the task list the weight trait you are wanting to use to record the weights. Then 2. Under Tools at the top of the IAR Main Screen, choose Group Add Trait(s) 3. Select your Weighing Task from the Tasks pick list. 4. Select the appropriate date for the weight records. 5. Select each animal and 6. enter the weight then 7. Click the button to record the weight. The weights will be recorded against the animal behind the scenes If you re-select the animal in this screen, PAM will assume you need to overwrite the original entry for the weight on that chosen date.

Page 46 Chapter 3 Method 3 1. Export a selected list of animals from the Trait Browser to a comma delimited file. (See the Trait Browser information notes for the steps). 2. Import the file into a spreadsheet program. 3. Create a column heading called Weights in column B 4. Enter the weights into column B of the spreadsheet alongside each animal then when done, 5. Save the file as a CSV text file then, 6. Import the saved file into PAM s IAR system via the menu options Individual Animals / Import / CSV File

Page (Step 1 on the dialog) Select the file you saved in the spreadsheet program. 8. (Step 2 on the dialog) Select the data type that is being imported in each of the columns in the text file. 9. Select the traits that line up with each data column in the in-coming test file. This is called mapping the data. 10. Now enter the date that goes with the weights entered in the spreadsheet. Method 4 Import the weights from a file generated by a set of electronic scales. Steps:

Page 48 Chapter 3 Follow the steps (1 to 5) on the Import Weights dialog shown here Follow the steps on this dialog. Here animal IDs in the importing file are matched to existing animals in your list. Finally click on Import to bring the new weight data into PAM.

Page 49 Generating Live Weight Gain Reports The Live Weight Gain reports can be accessed via Individual Animals / Individual Animals Main Screen / Reports / Individual Animals Daily Live weight Gain Report or Reports / Individual Animals Daily Live weight Gain Report A report selection dialog will be shown By choosing appropriate options on this dialog, a myriad of different report types can be generated. Step 1: Select the preferred report style: Step 2: If you chose Days to reach a target weight, you will need to specify that weight. If you chose Weights achieved at a target date, you will need to specify a target date. Step 3: Select the animals to be included in your report. Step 4: Follow the instruction on the screen If you choose not to calculate a daily live weight gain value for the animals, you will have to enter a default gain value. This default value should also be used to cater for any animals which do not have enough data to enable PAM to automatically calculate a daily live weight gain.

Page 50 Chapter 3 Step 5: Select an appropriate sorting option. Step 6: Generate the report.
