Introduction Setting Up Scan to CIFS on MB400/MC300/C Series Scanning to CIFS is the term that we use to represent Scan to Network. This basically involves scanning a document from the ADF/Flatbed (depending on what you use in the profile) straight into a shared folder, on any given users PC that is attached to the same network. Step 1 Setting up the folder To set up the folder, is relatively the simplest step in this process. First, you need to create a folder, it doesn t matter where the folder is, or where you have put it. It will be found by the share name once that has been set up. Once you have created the folder, right click on the folder and select Sharing. You should see the following window appear:-

Click Share, screen below gives you the option to only allow the folder to be shared ether with the logged in user or other users whom use the computer. If your user is already listed select your user and click share or in the list select everyone if the folder is to be shared among different users You will now return back to the sharing page of the folder properties, now click Advanced Sharing to give the user or users sharing permissions. Follow each sub screen below;

I have added Everyone you can add just your user if you wish, once selecting the user name below tick Allow for Full Control permissions, if this is not selected, then the scanner will not send a document to the computer as it sees it as write-protected. Once selected, click on Apply, and then OK. Now make a note of the share name, in my case, it is Scans, so this is the share name that I will need to use when setting the profile up. You will see what I mean later!! Now select the Security tab, to give security control to your user account or if you selected Everyone. To check if your user account has full security permissions select user above and check permissions below and make sure full control is selected. Screen below shows if you are to give security permissions to Everyone, your own user account will already have full permissions In the sub screens in the screen shot select edit then add and select the Everyone. On the 3 rd sub screen type Everyone and click Check Names to validate then click OK then tick Full Control and Apply

The below screens gives you the completed security window after all permissions are altered, click Apply if greyed out then just select OK Step 2 Setting up Policies, User Accounts & Network Windows 7 Ultimate & Corporate Edition By default, the unit cannot scan to Windows 7. There are 2 modifications that can be made to Window's security policies that will allow 'scan to CIFS' to work. Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy. In this window, go to Local Policies -> Security Options.

The two settings you want to change are: - Network Security: Do not store LAN Manager Hash value on next password change from "Enabled" to "Disabled" - Network Security: LAN Manager Authentication level from "Not Defined" to "Send LM & NTLM responses" Once you have done the above go to Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Change your password. You don't need to change your password so the New Password can be the same as the Current Password but you do have to click on the Change Password box at the bottom right of the window to make this work. In the example below; the current password is 'admin' and the new password is 'admin'. This password will be required when you set the profile on the printer web interface.

Windows 7 Home Premium, Basic and Starter Editions As these versions of Windows 7 do not have the Local Security Policy as Windows 7 Ultimate Edition, it is necessary to edit the Registry to make the required changes. Please make sure before proceeding that you have a working restore point and all important data is backed up before making any registry changes. Ensure you are logged in with Administrator privileges. Click the Start icon and in the search box, type Regedit and open the program that appears. If you are presented with a User Access Control dialogue box, please click Yes to continue. Navigate to the following registry area: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa

If the following values do not already exist you will have to create them. To do so, right-click on Lsa (on the left panel) and select New -> DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name them: LmCompatibilityLevel NoLmHash Ensure that the above spelling and capitalisation is used. Once created, we need to edit these settings. To do so, double click on them to bring up the edit box. Change the settings as follows: LmCompatibilityLevel = 1 NoLmHash = 0

After changing these settings, close Regedit and restart the PC. Once you have done this go to Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Change your password. You don't actually have to change your password so New password can be the same as Current Password but you do have to click on the Change password box at the bottom right of the window to make this work. Now we need to enable Network File Sharing and or optional setting (Disable Password Protected Sharing) Go to Control Panel, Network and Sharing Centre and select Change Advanced Sharing Settings. Ensure that file sharing is enabled and in regards to the optional setting only select turn off password protected sharing if you do not use a user name or password when you boot your computer. If you are using the optional setting you need to edit your profile and remove the user name and password and leave them blank. Step 3 Logging onto the web interface The next step is to log on to the web browser so that we can start to setup your profile. To do this, we need the IP address for the printer. Press the Menu button on the scanner operating panel and use the directional keys to navigate down to Network Settings then click OK below the directional keys. Once located the IP address, to obtain a full view press OK This will display the IP address something like (Not all numbers will either be the same, it s just so you can see what format they are in). All you do now is type that IP address into your Internet Explorer s address bar, and press Enter. You should be faced with the MB400MFP/MC300MFP/C Series Web Interface. Once on this page, you need to log in as the administrator, once you click on Administrator Login you will see a box asking for a Username and Password: (MB400/MC300MFP) Username = root (spelt like this, in lowercase) Password = six lower case a s (aaaaaa) (C MFP) Username = root (spelt like this, in lowercase) Password = the last six characters of the MAC address without colons in uppercase e.g. (8B205D). The MAC address is written on the main menu screen Click on OK, and you will be taken to the next page which is just asking for some general information, its ok just to click on Skip here.

Step 4 Setting Up the CIFS Profiles The same page will open but give you the option to create a profile, you will need to click on New to create a new profile, across the top of the page. If you need to modify a profile i.e. changed computer or changed your user name and password click Modify.

After clicking new the screen below is what you will see, but don t worry, it is all very self explanatory; Profile Name Protocol Target URL Username & Password Filename Sub-Folder Up to you, call it Test if you want. Should be set to CIFS You need to type in the following; \\(IP Address of the PC you are scanning to)\sharename of the folder Enter the user name and password we set in Step 2 of the person whom uses the PC or if you opted for the optional setting leave blank You can set it up which ever way you want (if you put #n at the end, for example image#n, then the machine will increment the name of the scans, so the first one you do, will be called Image00001 and then Image 00002, this saves you from having to remove a document from the last scan, or mess around with this profile after completion.) If this option is selected, then the MFP will ask if you want to create a special folder to put this image into before it scans the job through, again, up to you if you want to set it up. The rest of the options are only options that you will be able to select, so the Density of the image, the format of the image can all be set up by yourself, once this is done, click on Add. Now this should be all set up and ready to go.

Step 5 Using the Profile On the left of the scanner display uses the directional pad to browse to Scan, press Enter then scroll to Network PC and Enter. You now need to Enter on to Profile, then select the created profile you want to scan to. You will see an asterix symbol beside your selected profile to let you know it has been confirmed. You can now then can select either mono or colour scan, green for colour grey for mono. Depending on your machine, depends on how you would use your profile, if you are unsure of how to locate this on your machine after reading the manual, then please call the Technical Support desk on Questions I have Active Directory; will this affect my MFP from scanning to CIFS? In a word Yes, but only if you have one of the C5xxx MFP Devices MC860 MFP, the MB4xx, MC3xx and C3xxx MFP Devices work fine, if you do have active directory, then follow these steps:- 1. Go to Control Panel 2. Access User Accounts, and click Advanced tab, then the Advanced button 3. Click on Users on the left hand side 4. Move the mouse to the right panel, and right-click, now click on New User 5. Type in a Username, and password 6. Now un tick User must change password at next login 7. Now tick Password Never Expires and User Cannot Change Password 8. Click on Create 9. You will see this account appear on the right side of the window. Now that the account has been created, you need to get it set up on your folders Sharing and Security tabs:- 1. Right click on your folder that you are scanning to, and click on Sharing and Security. 2. Click on Sharing, now click on Permissions 3. Click on Add, click on Locations, and select the computer right at the top of the list, you do not want to add the account you created to the domain, as the account will only work with CIFS when it is on the machine, now click on OK, 4. In the text box at the bottom, type in the name as you spelled it when you set up the account, and click on Check Names, it should come up with the name of the account you created. 5. Now Click on OK, make sure you select the account in the box at the top, and put a tick in Full Control for Everyone. 6. Now click on the Security Tab, Click on Add..., as you did before, click on Locations, and select the computer name, then click on OK, now type in the name of the user account you set up earlier in the text box at the bottom, and click on Check Names. 7. Click on OK, and select the User Account in the list at the top of the window, now make sure that you tick Full Control under Allow. 8. Apply all the changes, and you are done! Once this has been done, you should be able to scan into the folder as you were trying to do earlier, if this has not rectified any faults you were having, then please call the Technical Support line.
