34 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual MANAGING SYSTEM SECURITY Transmitter Site Security Maintaining an Open Transmitter Site Maintaining a Closed Transmitter Site The Receiver s internal security system is based on user names, passwords, privileges and Transmitter site PIN numbers. Transmitter site security is provided by the site PIN. This fourdigit number is requested by the Transmitter upon connection. If the calling Receiver does not possess the correct PIN, it will not connect. The default Transmitter PIN is Until it is changed, the Transmitter remains open to all calling Receivers. Such public Transmitter sites can be useful for demonstration purposes or where the caller s identity is of no concern. By customizing the Transmitter s PIN (setting it to other than 1234), you close it to all Receiver sites that do not possess the new PIN. We recommend using a custom PIN, even if your application only uses a single Receiver. Enter the four-digit PIN in the PIN field of the Remote Site Configuration dialog. See Configuring the Transmitter Site in this chapter for more information. Once you have given the Transmitter a new PIN, update the Site Directory at the Receiver (see Updating the Site Directory PIN Field below). Give the new PIN to all Receiver sites that will access the Transmitter. Updating the Site Directory PIN Field When a Transmitter site PIN is changed, the Site Directory must be updated at every Receiver that connects with the Transmitter. Enter the new Transmitter PIN in the PIN field under the Site Information category of the Site Directory dialog. See Editing a Transmitter Site earlier in this chapter. NOTE: Do NOT change the number in the PIN field of the Site Directory until after you have changed it in the PIN field of the Remote Site Configuration dialog. Updating the Receiver s Site Directory does not affect the PIN at the Transmitter site. It simply ensures that the PIN used by the Receiver agrees with the PIN used by the Transmitter.

Chapter 2 Configuration 35 Receiver Site Security Working with the Security Dialog Receiver site security is protected by a system of user names, passwords and privileges maintained by the system administrator. The administrator grants system privileges (rights) to user names which are password-protected. See Logging In in this chapter and in Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan. If a signal is not present or is lost, the message No Video is displayed over a color bar test pattern in the Image Display, and that camera is deselected.

46 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual Images continue to display until one of the following occurs: Suspend All Sequencing or MultiFrame Camera is selected from the Cameras Popup menu (see Cameras Popup Menu, below), all camera buttons are clicked off, an alarm is detected by the system (see Receiver Alarm Response in this chapter), or the Deselect All Cameras button is clicked. Training Images vs. Delta Images Received images come in two varieties: training images and delta images. A training image is an image that is downloaded from the Transmitter site in its entirety; every pixel in the camera s view is encoded and sent to the Receiver. Because images can contain a great deal of information, training images can take as long as a few seconds to download. A delta image is also called an update image, because only the parts of the picture that have changed from the previous image are sent. Since less of the picture is being sent, delta images transmit much faster than training images. When a camera first begins to display, the initial image is a training image. From there, delta images are sent as updates to the training image. Cameras Popup Menu The Cameras Popup menu provides additional display features. Move the mouse over the title CAMERAS and click the right mouse button. The following options are available: MultiFrame Camera CAUTION: Do NOT choose MultiFrame Camera while an alarm is in progress! Communication conflicts may occur. The MultiFrame Camera feature displays sequential images from the selected camera in multiple Image Display panes, starting from the top left. This feature lets you track activity from a specific camera.

Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan 47 In Single View, this feature is available in 2x2, 3x3 and 4x4 display formats. In Hyper View, it is only available in the 2x2 display format. 64 50 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual Generate Alarm Retrieve Images As Generate Alarm creates an alarm condition for the selected camera, just as if it had occurred at the Transmitter site. See Generating an Alarm later in this chapter for more information. Retrieve Images As determines the resolution at which images are received and saved. It lets you adjust the trade-off between image quality and speed. The available settings are: Match Display Images are received and saved at the resolution of the current view (3x3 view saves as High Speed Resolution). It provides the best images quickly in all views. The disk space required by images saved with this setting depends on the view selected. High Resolution Images are received and saved at the highest resolution. This setting slows reception in the 2x2, 3x3 and 4x4 displays. Images saved with this setting require the most disk space. Normal Resolution Images are received and saved at an average resolution. This setting slows reception in the 3x3 and 4x4 displays. 1x1 display images appear faster but are of lower quality. Images saved with this setting require less disk space than High Resolution images. High Speed Resolution Images are received and saved at the lowest resolution. This setting provides the fastest 1x1 and 2x2 display images, but with the lowest quality. Images saved with this setting require less disk space than Normal Resolution images. Enter Full Screen Mode Select the Retrieve Images As setting that represents the best combination of image speed and quality for your needs. Select this option to activate Full Screen mode. See Selecting the Display Mode earlier in this chapter.

Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan 51 ALARM OPERATION Alarm Response HyperScan can be integrated easily into an existing or newly installed alarm system. Connect your two-wire alarm leads to the Transmitter or Video Expansion module alarm inputs. Refer to the HyperScan Module Installation Instructions for information about alarm connections. The Receiver and Transmitter share the alarm processing task. The Transmitter detects the alarm event, captures images and sends them to the Receiver. The Receiver alerts the user to the alarm, displays the alarm images and (if so configured) saves the images to the image database (see Saving Images in this chapter). Several factors determine the system s response to specific alarm events. These include: Link type Site alarm handling settings Remote site configuration settings User alarm access privileges Link Type Alarms on dial up and ISDN links are processed immediately if the Receiver and Transmitter are connected when the alarms are generated. Otherwise, the Transmitter automatically dials the Receiver to establish a connection. If the site is so configured, the connection will be broken automatically once the alarm has been processed. This releases the Receiver to process the next alarm call, if any. Alarms on leased line and null modem links are processed immediately. Once the alarm is processed, the connection is maintained. CAUTION: Never Hangup/Disconnect a leased line or null modem link to a Transmitter site with alarm connections. Alarms will not be reported while the link is disconnected. Site Alarm Handling Settings The Receiver processes alarms from each Transmitter site based on the alarm handling option settings for that site. When you customize these settings, you change the way the Receiver responds to site alarms.

52 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual Remote Site Configuration Settings CAUTION: Do NOT access the Remote Site Configuration dialog while an alarm is in progress! The Transmitter s response to alarm events is affected by the Alarm Callback options (see Configuring the Transmitter Site in Chapter 2 Configuration for more information). These settings determine which Receiver(s) the Transmitter will try to contact when an alarm occurs and how many times it will try to connect. User Alarm Access Privileges Transmitter Site Alarm Response When an alarm occurs, your alarm access privileges determine your options during the event (see Alarm Handling in this chapter for more information). The Transmitter associates each alarm input with the corresponding camera input. For example, when an alarm event occurs at alarm input 3, the Transmitter assumes that Camera 3 covers the proper area. In general, when an alarm occurs, the Transmitter: 1. Activates the alarm out output (see the HyperScan Module Installation Instructions). 2. Immediately captures three alarm in progress images (at one-second intervals) from the associated camera input if the site is not online with a Receiver. If the Transmitter is already online with a Receiver, it will capture one alarm in progress image. NOTE: In the event of multiple simultaneous alarms, the alarm in progress images will be captured from the lowest numbered alarm camera. For example, if alarms occur on Cameras 1 and 3, the three alarm in progress images will be captured from Camera Calls the first Receiver site telephone number stored in memory (dial up and ISDN links only), if not already connected (see Configuring the Transmitter Site in Chapter 2 Configuration for more information). If the connection fails for any reason, the Transmitter: a. Redials until connected or until the Number of Tries is exhausted. b. Dials the next Receiver site telephone number in the list. 4. Sends all alarm in progress images to the Receiver.

Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan 53 If the Transmitter fails to reach any Receiver on the first pass through the list, and Sequence Retry is not selected, the Transmitter resumes normal operation. The alarm in progress images remain in Transmitter memory until: The next connection, at which time the stored alarm images are sent to the calling Receiver, or A new alarm occurs on a higher priority (lower numbered) camera, at which time new alarm in progress images replace the old ones. Receiver Site Alarm Response An alarm event can occur while the Receiver is either offline (disconnected) or online (connected). When offline, the Receiver s default response is to answer the Transmitter call, process the event and disconnect. When online, the Receiver s default response is to process the event and resume normal operation. You can change these default actions by editing the Site Directory. (See Configuring the Site Directory in Chapter 2 Configuration for more information.) When an alarm occurs, the Receiver: 1. Starts the alarm session timer. 2. Sounds an audible warning. 3. Changes the corresponding link status indicator from green to red. 4. Changes the corresponding CAMERAS button(s) from green to red. 5. Displays the Alarm In Progress dialog. 6. Continues to receive alarm pictures until the alarm duration timer expires or the alarm is acknowledged. NOTE: If the Alarm Duration in the Site Configuration settings is 0, the Receiver will only process the alarm in progress images captured by the Transmitter. No further images will be processed as alarm images and, depending on your settings, the Receiver may disconnect immediately after processing the alarm in progress images.

54 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual Depending on the Alarm Handling settings in the System Default and Site Directory dialogs, the Receiver may also: 1. Switch to Single View or Hyper View mode. 2. Switch to the 1x1, 2x2, 3x3 or 4x4 display format. 3. Display the border of the alarm image(s) in red. 4. Save alarm images to the Image Database. 5. Download and save pre-alarm images to the Image Database. 6. Hang up the connection at the end of the alarm session in order to process the next alarm call (dial up or ISDN) if the Transmitter initiated the connection. The Receiver s response to alarm events is also affected by user alarm access privileges. See Receiver Site Security in Chapter 2 Configuration and Alarm Handling below for more information. Alarm Duration The duration of an alarm event depends on three factors: The number of alarms that occur at the Transmitter site The times at which those alarms occur The setting in the Duration - Minutes field of the Receiver Alarm Handling settings for the site When an online alarm occurs (i.e., when the Transmitter and Receiver are already connected), the Alarm timer in the lower right corner of the screen begins counting down from the site s Duration - Minutes setting (the default is one minute). During this time, one alarm in progress image and any updates to this image are transmitted to the Receiver. When an offline alarm occurs, the Transmitter connects to the Receiver and begins downloading its three alarm in progress images. The Alarm timer displays the message Alarm In Progress. Once the alarm in progress images are downloaded, the Alarm timer begins counting down from the site s Duration - Minutes setting (the default is one minute). During this time, updates to the last alarm in progress image are transmitted to the Receiver.

Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan 55 The Duration - Minutes setting applies to each camera. In the case of alarms on multiple cameras, each camera is only in an alarm state for the length of time specified in Duration - Minutes. However, the total alarm session time may exceed the Duration - Minutes setting if multiple alarms occur at different times. It can last as long as sixteen times the Duration - Minutes setting if alarms occur at the right intervals at every possible camera input. For example, say the Duration - Minutes setting is one minute. If an alarm occurs on Camera #3, the Alarm timer starts counting down from 1:00. If no other alarms occur during that minute, the alarm state expires. However, if a new alarm occurs on Camera #1 when the Alarm timer is at 0:43, then the Alarm timer is reset to 1:00 and the countdown begins again. This process repeats for each new alarm on a different camera. However, if Camera #3 has another alarm before the Alarm timer reaches 0:00, the timer is not reset to 1:00, because Camera #3 has already had a previous alarm. If Duration - Minutes is 0 (zero), then the Transmitter does not send any updates to the alarm in progress images to the Receiver. Once the Receiver has finished processing the alarm in progress images, it returns to its previous state. Depending on your settings, this may include disconnecting the link with the Transmitter. Alarm Handling By default, one of two Alarm In Progress dialogs displays when an alarm occurs. Your options for handling the alarm are determined by your alarm access privileges. If you do not wish to override the alarm, or if you do not possess the Override Session privilege, the alarm is processed automatically based on current alarm handling settings. At the expiration of the alarm session, the Receiver returns to the state it was in before the alarm began. NOTE: If you are not present when an alarm occurs, the event is processed automatically, based on current alarm handling settings. CAUTION: Do NOT choose MultiFrame Camera from the Cameras Popup menu while an alarm is in progress! Communication conflicts may occur.

56 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual Overriding an Alarm (with Security Privileges) If you possess the Override Session privilege, the following Alarm In Progress dialog prompts you to take control of the alarm event. Click OK to override the alarm. The dialog closes and returns full system control to you. If you do not wish to take control of the alarm, do nothing. The alarm is processed automatically based on current alarm handling settings. If you also possess the Always Take Control privilege, then the Alarm In Progress dialog does not appear. You are in immediate control of the alarm session. Overriding an Alarm (without Security Privileges) If you do not possess the Override Session privilege, the following Alarm In Progress dialog displays. If you do not wish to take control of the alarm, do nothing. The alarm is processed automatically based on current alarm handling settings. When the alarm session expires, the Receiver returns to the state it was in before the alarm began. If you wish to take control of the alarm, click the Change Login button. The following Alarm In Progress dialog displays.

Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan 57 When a new user who possesses the Override Session privilege logs in (enters Name and Password and clicks Accept), the following Alarm In Progress dialog displays. Click OK to override the alarm. The dialog closes and gives full system control to the new user. To log in a different user, enter the new Name and Password and click Accept. If the new user possesses the Override Session privilege, the Alarm In Progress dialog at the top of this page displays again. Otherwise, the Alarm In Progress dialog at the bottom of the previous page (without the OK button) displays again. Acknowledging an Alarm Once the Alarm In Progress dialog has been cleared, but before the alarm session timer expires, the alarm may be acknowledged. An acknowledged alarm event is considered under control and is canceled. To acknowledge an alarm, click the corresponding red camera button. The Acknowledge Alarm dialog asks for confirmation. Click OK to confirm the action. The dialog closes and returns the camera to its normal (nonalarm) state.

58 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual Disabling an Alarm If you possess the Local Alarm Disable privilege, you may disable an alarm for the balance of the session. When an alarm is disabled, the Receiver ignores all further alarms at the selected camera until you disconnect from the site. To disable an alarm, you must first acknowledge it. Click the corresponding red camera button to display the Acknowledge Alarm dialog. Select Disable alarm for remainder of session. (If the option is not available, you do not possess the Local Alarm Disable privilege.) Click OK to confirm the action and close the dialog. The camera returns to its normal (nonalarm) state and ignores all further alarms until you disconnect. See also Configuring the Transmitter Site in Chapter 2 Configuration and Controlling the Transmitter Site later in this chapter for more information on disabling alarms. Generating an Alarm You can manually generate an alarm event for a displayed camera anytime during a connection. Generated alarms are treated as true alarm events and are processed exactly the same. This feature lets you document any scene or activity of interest. To generate a local alarm, right-click the camera image of interest and select Generate Alarm from the Image Display Popup menu. The Receiver immediately begins processing the selected camera as if it were in an alarm state at the Transmitter site. All normal alarm handling processing options apply.

Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan 59 SAVING IMAGES The image saving feature lets you capture images during processing for later use and evaluation. When you select the Save All Images, Save Alarm Images or Save Pre-Alarm Images button, received images are saved to the Image Database. NOTE: The image saving options are a protected feature. You must possess the Save Images privilege to change them. You can recall and view saved images with ImageReview. See Chapter 5 ImageReview for more information. The adjustment controls let you change six image properties: brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, color balance and sharpness. These adjustments affect the image at the Transmitter end. To adjust a property, click and drag the appropriate scroll bar or change the setting number in the box to the right of the scroll bar. The effects of your adjustment will appear in the next received image. NOTE: Since camera adjustments function best when performed slowly, make small adjustments. Wait for the effects of one adjustment to display before making another. If you lose track of your adjustments or want to start over, click the Defaults button to return all properties to their factory default settings.

Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan 69 Brightness Use this scroll bar to adjust the brightness of the image from dark to light. You may lose contrast as parts of an image are brightened. Contrast Use this scroll bar to adjust image contrast, which affects shading within an image. This adjustment extends from darker images with shaded areas appearing black to lighter images with little definition. Saturation Use this scroll bar to adjust image saturation. This adjustment controls the effect of color within an image and extends from no color to very bright color. Hue Use this scroll bar to adjust the hue of the image. Hue controls the amount of red and green within an image and extends from dominant colors of red and blue to dominant colors of green and blue. Color Balance Use this scroll bar to adjust image color balance. Color balance controls the amount of red, green and blue within an image and extends from pale colors to rich colors. Sharpness Use this scroll bar to adjust the sharpness level of the image from minimum sharpness to maximum sharpness. NOTE: The Sharpness adjustment feature is only available on TX50 and later model Transmitters. Color Boost Color Boost settings affect images at the Receiver end. By combining lower Camera Adjust settings with higher Color Boost settings, image refresh rates can be dramatically improved. The Color Boost control panel becomes visible when you select YES in the Color Boost area of the Camera Adjust dialog. A graphic button and a drop-down list appear in the panel. When Color Boost is first activated, the entry in the drop-down list says None, and the graphic button displays a single diagonal red line. This is the default setting.

70 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual To change the Color Boost setting, click the down arrow next to the drop down list and select a setting from the list. The next image update will reflect the change. You may want to experiment with different settings to find the one that is best suited to your needs. 85 Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan 71 Working With the Color Boost Settings Dialog To create custom Color Boost settings or change the values of an existing setting, click the graphic button next to the drop down list in the Color Boost area of the Camera Adjust dialog. The Color Boost Settings dialog displays. All Color Boost settings share the following controls: File Name field Displays the name of the Color Boost settings file that is being edited. If no file is being edited, this field is blank until settings are made.... button Opens a standard Open dialog. Use this dialog to choose a.lut file to edit. Name field Displays the name of this setting as shown in the drop-down list in the Color Boost control panel. Enter a unique name in this field, or you may let HyperScan assign a name based on the values selected for the setting. Revert button Undoes all changes to the setting since the last save. If this is a new file and not yet saved, this button functions like the... button.

72 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual Save button Saves the current settings file. If this is a new file, its Name will become available in the drop-down list in the Color Boost control panel. Default button Changes the values of the settings file to equal None. All settings revert to 0 (zero), and images from the Transmitter are unchanged by Color Boost. This can be useful for starting from scratch during Color Boost configuration. NOTE: The Color Boost Settings dialog may appear over the image display of the Camera Adjust dialog. However, you can move the Color Boost Settings dialog by clicking and dragging its title bar. Apply button Clicking this button applies the changes made to this setting to the image display of the Camera Adjust dialog without saving them. This lets you preview the setting before saving it. Style drop-down list This drop-down list box shows the currently selected style of Color Boost setting. Each style applies Color Boost differently to the images from this camera. There are seven styles divided into two categories. The line styles are Sloped Table, Multiply, Parallel Increase, Bell Curve and S -Curve. The point styles are Bezier Curve and Multi- Point. In addition, there is a list of Standard Presets. Histogram display This area shows how Color Boost settings will be applied. The black line represents the unaltered image. The colored lines show how the red, blue and green channels will be altered in relation to the original image. For further details, see the individual Color Boost style sections, below. OK Click this button to save all changes to this setting and close the Color Boost Settings dialog. Cancel Click this button to close the Color Boost Settings dialog without saving any changes.

Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan 73 Standard Presets The Standard Presets style lists the Color Boost settings that are available by default. Initially, the contents of the drop-down list in the Color Boost panel of the Camera Adjust dialog match the contents of this list. However, when new styles are defined, they are only added to the Color Boost panel drop-down list, not the Standard Presets list.

74 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual Line Styles The line styles plot the Color Boost setting using a formula; the formula parameters are defined in the left-hand panel. All line styles share similar controls and features. When Simple is selected, all three color channels (red, green, and blue) are changed equally. Use the arrows next to the box to change the value of this setting or type in a value. Clicking and dragging the red line in the table also changes the value. When RGB is selected, the three color channels can be changed independently. Clicking and dragging in the histogram display first changes red, then green, then blue values. Values may also be changed using the arrows or boxes. Clicking GrayScale renders the images from this camera black and white before applying Color Boost settings.

Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan 75 Sloped Table The Sloped Table style of Color Boost setting allows for adjustment of the general light level without affecting the values of true white or true black. When this setting is used, the colored line or lines run parallel to the black line for some or most of its length, then angle to intersect the black line at the lower left and upper right corners.

76 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual Multiply The Multiply style of Color Boost setting increases or decreases the value of each color by a certain amount. Darker colors are affected slightly, while lighter colors are affected greatly. Enter whole numbers in the N and D boxes. When the N number is larger than the D number, the colored line or lines start at the lower left corner and continue to the edge of the table above the black line. When the D number is larger than the N number, the colored line or lines extend below the black line.

Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan 77 Parallel Increase The Parallel Increase style of Color Boost setting increases the values of all colors equally, including black and white. When this setting is used, the colored line or lines are parallel to the black line for their entire length.

78 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual Bell Curve The Bell Curve style of Color Boost setting is similar to the Sloped Table style in that it does not change the values of black or white. However, colors close to black and white are altered much less with Bell Curve, leaving most of the change for the middle colors. When this setting is used, the colored line or lines form a bell curve with the ends in the lower left and upper right corners.

Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan 79 S -Curve The S -Curve style of Color Boost setting operates much like the Bell Curve style, except that the brightest colors are dimmed when the darker ones are brightened and vice versa. When this setting is used, the colored line or lines curve above the black line starting from the lower left corner, cross the black line at a point close to either the lower left or upper right corners, then curve below the black line up to the upper right corner.

80 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual Point Styles The point styles define a Color Boost setting by drawing a line based on the placement of points on the histogram table. In these styles, the red, green and blue channels are affected equally. They cannot be separated. Both point styles share similar controls and features. The Points controls (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th) define X and Y coordinates that control the direction and shape of the line. Clicking the histogram display also defines a point.

Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan 81 Bezier Curve The Bezier Curve style of Color Boost setting allows the user to create a custom-shaped curve which acts in a similar manner to Bell Curve or S-Curve. When this style is used, the red line curves according to where the two points are placed. The GrayScale check box acts exactly the same as it does for line styles (see Line Styles).

82 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual Multi-Point The Multi-Point style of Color Boost setting allows the user to define up to four points which act as corners through which the red line passes. This allows the user to define a completely custom Color Boost setting, enhancing or diminishing only the chosen range of colors.

Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan 83 CONTROLLING THE TRANSMITTER SITE You can control most aspects of Transmitter site operation from the Control Panel. Transmitter site alarm inputs, relays and audio channels can be turned on or off during a connection. The Audio, Alarm and Relay buttons are located at the bottom of the Control Panel. They control Transmitter site alarm inputs, relays and audio channels, respectively. The Audio and Relay buttons are enabled only when the Receiver detects Audio Expansion or Relay Control modules, respectively, at the selected Transmitter site. When you click the Audio, Alarm or Relay button, the device control pad appears. The buttons on this pad indicate the current state of each device. Control Pad Blank Gray Button Gray Button with Graphic Green Button with Graphic Audio Channel not present or disabled Channel present, not selected Channel present and selected Alarm Input not present or disabled Input present, alarm not activated Input present, alarm activated Relay Relay not present or disabled Relay present, not energized Relay present and energized Device control buttons toggle on and off. To change the state of a device, simply click the corresponding button. Changes to the status of alarms, relays and audio channels take effect immediately and remain in effect even after the connection is broken. Alarm, audio and relay devices may be disabled in the Enable Devices screen of the Site Directory (see Configuring the Site Directory in Chapter 2 Configuration). Settings in this screen only affect Transmitter site operation from this Receiver. Alarms may also be disabled through the Remote Site Configuration dialog (see Configuring the Transmitter Site in Chapter 2 Configuration). These changes affect Transmitter site alarm operation from all Receivers.

84 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual Audio Control Alarm Control The audio control pad lets you select audio channels at Transmitter sites equipped with a Two-Way Audio module and one or more Audio Expansion modules. Any one audio channel can be selected for remote listen-in and talk-back. Click the appropriate audio button to select, or open, the audio channel. A green audio button means the channel is open. Click the button again to close the channel. Refer to the HyperComm Installation and Operating Instructions for more information. The alarm control pad lets you enable or disable the Receiver s response to individual Transmitter site alarm inputs. Click the appropriate alarm button to toggle the setting. Relay Control The relay control pad lets you control individual relays at Transmitter sites equipped with Relay Control modules. Relays can be individually set or reset. Click the appropriate relay button to toggle the relay. A green relay button means the relay is set. NOTE: Relay Control modules provide both normally open and normally closed contacts. A set relay (green control button) does not necessarily indicate a relay closure. Be sure to determine the effect of relay operation before using this feature.

Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan 85 MANAGING SYSTEM INFORMATION Working with Transmitter Site Groups Saving a Site Group HyperScan can generate as many as 100 million bytes of information every hour. Handling all this information requires some time and attention on your part. The following sections describe the tools provided for this purpose. To simplify Quad Link operation, you can save and load specific link and site assignments in the Connect All Links dialog. Once a group of sites has been saved under a group name, you can recall the link-to-site assignments with a few mouse clicks. To create a Transmitter Site Group, click the Links menu and select Dial/Connect All Links. The Connect Links dialog appears. Assign a Transmitter site to each desired link and click Save Sites. The Save Site Group dialog displays your link-tosite assignments. Enter a unique group name (up to 16 characters) and click OK to save the assignments and close the dialog. If the group name already exists, a dialog asks you to enter a different name. Loading a Site Group To load a Transmitter Site Group, click the Links menu and select Dial/Connect All Links. The Connect Links dialog displays. Click Load Sites. The Load Site Groups dialog displays. Click the Name field and select the desired group from the drop-down list. NOTE: A site group cannot be changed once it has been saved. To change a site group, delete the old group and create a new group.

Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan 87 Working with the Event Log The Event Log documents system events as they occur. The log is automatically updated with each event. To open the event log, click the Reports menu and select Event Log. A status gauge displays the progress of loading the Event Log. (Selecting Cancel while the Event Log is loading will display a partial log file.) This dialog displays the current log file and the log control panel. At the control panel, you can save and load log files, clear the current log, query the log or print its contents. What is an Event? An event is any one of over 30 actions and operations that the system recognizes as important. The Receiver automatically records all events in the event log. Each recorded event is identified by type, user, time, date and a brief description. Events are organized into 10 groups of related or similar events. See Appendix F Events for a list of events and event groups.

88 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual Reading the Event Log Querying the Event Log The current event log appears in the event log window. It is sorted by time and date with the most recent event at the top. The log identifies each event by group name, user name, Receiver time and date and description. The Transmitter time and date are also provided for some events. By default, the event log window displays all recorded events. As the log grows in size, locating specific events can become difficult. The Query Events feature makes the task easier by letting you select the event groups to display in the log window. To query the event log, click the Query button. The Query Event Log dialog displays, containing a check box for each event group. Select the group(s) of interest and click OK. The event log file only displays the selected event groups in the Event Log window and in printed copies of the log. NOTE: Event queries do not affect the contents of the event log itself. They only determine the events to display and print. Filing the Event Log The two File buttons on the Event Log Control Panel let you move the contents of the event log to and from a disk file. This lets you create backup copies of the event log. CAUTION: The contents of the event log are replaced when you open an event log file. If necessary, save the current event log to disk before you open an existing event log file. To save the contents of the event log, click the Save Log File button. The Save Event Log dialog displays. Select the desired drive and directory for the file and enter a file name. Click OK to save the event log to the designated file and close the dialog.

Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan 89 To open an event log file, click the Open Log File button. The Open Event Log dialog displays. Select the desired drive, directory and event log. Click OK to load the contents of the selected file into the event log, replacing its current contents. NOTE: Event queries do not affect event log filing operations. The entire event log is saved or loaded, no matter which query event groups are selected. Printing the Event Log The two Print buttons let you set up the printer and print the contents of the event log. To perform printer setup, click the Printer Setup button. A standard Windows printer setup dialog displays. Select the desired options and click OK to close the dialog. To print the event log, click the Print Log File button. A standard Windows print dialog appears. Select the desired options and click OK to print the event log as displayed. Clearing the Event Log CAUTION: The current contents of the event log are lost when you clear the event log. Be sure to save the current event log to disk before selecting this option. The Clear Log File button lets you erase the contents of the event log. NOTE: Clearing the event log is a protected feature. You must possess the Modify Event Log privilege to perform it. NOTE: Event queries do not affect the event log clearing operation. The entire event log is deleted, no matter which query event groups are selected. To clear the contents of the event log, click the Clear Log File button. A confirmation dialog appears. Click Yes to clear the event log. The date and time of this action are then recorded as the first entry in the newly cleared event log.

90 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual Creating Text and Graphic Reports Preparing a Custom Text Report Preparing a Custom Text/Graphic Report Written reports are an important means of recording and communicating information and events. You may produce reports containing either text only or both text and graphics (both color and grayscale). By default, Windows Notepad and Windows WordPad are selected for this task, but you may change either to the program of your choice. See Changing System Defaults in Chapter 2 Configuration for details. To prepare a text only report, click the Reports menu and select Custom Text Report. Windows Notepad (or your alternate text editor) launches. Create, save and print the report document in the usual fashion and exit the program. To prepare a report with text and graphics, click the Reports menu and select Custom Text/Graphic Report. Windows WordPad (or your alternate word processor) launches. Create, save and print the report document in the usual fashion and exit the program. You can easily include received images in a Custom Text/Graphic Report by using the Windows Clipboard. Perform one of the following steps to capture an image: To capture the active window, press Alt plus Print Screen. To capture the entire screen, press Print Screen. To capture the Image Display, move the mouse pointer over an image. Then click the right mouse button and select Copy View. To capture a single image, move the mouse pointer over the image. Then click the right mouse button and select Copy Image. Perform the following steps to paste an image from the Clipboard to your application: 1. Start the application that will receive the image. 2. Select Paste from the Edit menu. The image will be pasted from the Clipboard into the current file. NOTE: If you are using a word processor other than Windows WordPad, consult that program s online help or user manual for information about adding graphics to your report.

Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan 91 Sharing Information Sharing Information by Printer You can use the Windows Clipboard and Custom Text and Graphic Reports to record, print or fax anything that is displayed. Custom Text Reports and the Event Log can be printed on any printer that is supported by Microsoft Windows. Custom Text/Graphic Reports require a graphics capable printer and can be printed in full color if a color printer is available. As with all Windows applications, the printer determines the quality of printed graphics. In general, laser and inkjet printers provide the best results. Refer to your printer s user s guide or your Windows documentation for information on printing graphics. Sharing Information by Fax Modem If your computer is equipped with a fax modem and suitable software, faxing a report or the Event Log is as easy as printing it. Refer to your fax software s user s guide for instructions on faxing from your computer. Because facsimile quality is relatively poor, faxed images may be inferior to printed output. To maximize the quality of your faxes, select fine (200 x 200 dpi) operation in the fax software. Also, check your fax software user s guide for advice on faxing graphics. Sharing Information Electronically A captured image may be saved as a.bmp file in Windows Paint or another graphics program and then shared either by floppy disk or by ing it to any valid address. Refer to your graphics application s user s guide or your Windows documentation for more information.

92 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual DISCONNECTING LINKS Disconnecting links is an orderly process in which the flow of data between the Receiver and Transmitter stops and, in the case of a dialed connection (dial up, ISDN or leased line), the modems or TRAs hang up. 118 104 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual Chapter 5 ImageReview ImageReview is a stand-alone application that lets you display and review saved images. When either the Save All Images or Save Alarmed Images button is selected in HyperScan, received images are stored in the Image Database. You can retrieve and view images from the Image Database with ImageReview. For information on setting the Save Image option, see Saving Images in Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan. INSTALLING IMAGEREVIEW STARTING IMAGEREVIEW There are two ways to install and run ImageReview: Install it as part of your HyperScan installation and run it as an extension of HyperScan. This gives you immediate access to your saved images and is useful for installations that are not continuously online. Install ImageReview on a different machine. This lets you thoroughly review images without interfering with HyperScan operation. To install ImageReview alone, perform a Custom Installation and install only the ImageReview Files. See Chapter 1 Installation for information. To start ImageReview, do one of the following: 1. If HyperScan is running, click on the Image menu and select Review. 2. If HyperScan is not running, or if you have installed ImageReview on a different system, click the Start button, then click Programs, and then click the folder labeled HyperScan 2.3 (or the name you entered in setup, if different). Finally, click the ImageReview icon.

Chapter 5 ImageReview 105 USING IMAGEREVIEW Selecting a Database for Review To review saved images, you must: Select the database that contains the images to review Select the images to be reviewed Select the desired display and playback options Review images with the playback controls Under most circumstances, ImageReview will automatically select the database that is currently in use by HyperScan. However, if ImageReview has been installed by itself, you must manually select the Image Database to review. You may also change which Image Database you are reviewing at any time. To view images from an Image Database that is not currently selected, do the following: 1. Select Open Database from the File menu or click the Open button on the toolbar. The Select Directory dialog displays. You can navigate through this dialog as you would any Open dialog. 2. Locate an image database directory. 125 Chapter 5 ImageReview 111 Copy View Hold Image Release Image BACKING UP AND DELETING IMAGES Backing Up the Image Database Copy View copies the entire Image Display (view) onto the Clipboard. The view can then be used in other Windows applications. You may also choose Copy from the Edit menu (see Creating Text and Graphic Reports in Chapter 3 Operating HyperScan). Hold Image freezes the selected image and marks it with a yellow border. ImageReview continues to receive image updates but does not display them. A left-click on the mouse also holds the image. Release Image unfreezes the selected image and removes the yellow border. ImageReview then resumes updating the image. Clicking the left mouse button also releases the image. HyperScan stores all saved images in the Image Database. However, HyperScan cannot save any more images to the Image Database when available hard drive space drops below the level set under Advanced Database Options. Therefore, it is a good idea to back up the Image Database often or to delete unnecessary images from it. Backing up data is very important. The Image Database directory should be backed up as part of your routine maintenance activities. Doing so will protect the image database against corruption or loss caused by system failures. Microsoft provides two system backup mechanisms within Windows: Microsoft Backup Back up some or all of the contents of the disk. Windows Explorer Copy the entire database to another directory, hard drive, removable drive or network drive. Other backup mechanisms are available from other third-party vendors. Follow all manufacturer instructions. The database directory contains subdirectories for each Transmitter site. Each site directory contains subdirectories for every camera at the site. The camera directories contain.hsu files named for the date and time of the first and last image they contain. You can back up either the entire directory or any individual sites, cameras or.hsu files you wish.

112 HyperScan System Installation and Operation Manual Deleting a Database, Site Folder or Camera CAUTION: Deleted items cannot be recovered. Create a backup copy of the Image Database before deleting any images. See Backing Up the Image Database above. To delete an entire database, delete its book icon. To delete a site from a database, delete its site folder. To delete images associated with a particular camera, delete its camera icon. To delete a database, site folder or camera icon, select it and press the Delete button on your keyboard or select Delete Item from the Edit menu. ImageReview displays a confirmation dialog. Click Yes to confirm the action; a deletion status box displays the deletion process. The book, folder or camera icon is removed from the list, and all images associated with that site or camera are deleted. You may also click No to cancel the action. Reviewing a Backed-Up Image Database EXITING IMAGEREVIEW Backed-up Image Databases may be reviewed by selecting them using the Open Image Database dialog, accessible from the File menu, or by clicking the Open button on the toolbar. See Selecting a Database for Review earlier in this chapter for details. When you are finished reviewing images, click the File menu and select Exit. ImageReview shuts down and returns you to either HyperScan or Windows.

Chapter 6 Troubleshooting 113 Chapter 6 Troubleshooting TROUBLESHOOTING HYPERSCAN If difficulties arise during the installation or operation of HyperScan, consult this manual first. Review the section of the manual that covers your activity when the problem occurred. Then browse through the following troubleshooting guide. NOTE: The Troubleshooting Guide specifically addresses dial up mode. However, most messages apply regardless of type of communication link. Locate the activity that you were performing when the problem occurred. Look under the Problem column for a description of your problem or a description that is similar to your problem. Read across the table to identify possible causes and suggested actions. Finally, keep a record of each action you perform. This record of all troubleshooting activities will be important if you contact Factory Technical Support for assistance. If you cannot resolve the problem, contact your dealer or Factory Technical Support. Since the representative will ask for specific information about your installation, perform the following steps before you call.
