Article ID: 5068 Download and Backup Configuration Files on the WAP131 and WAP351 Objective The WAP s configuration files contain all of the information about the WAP s settings. The WAP131 and WAP351 have three different configuration files: Startup Configuration This file is the primary configuration file and is stored on the WAP s flash memory. Backup Configuration The backup configuration is an additional file stored on the WAP and is used as a backup. Mirror Configuration If the startup configuration file isn t modified for 24 hours, it is saved as a mirror configuration, which is preserved across factory resets. This file is a snapshot of a past startup configuration, and can be used to recover settings after a factory reset. These files can be backed up to your PC or downloaded onto to the WAP to update the settings. Configuration files can also be copied to different files, or deleted. The objective of this document is to explain how to manage the configuration files on the WAP131 and WAP351. Applicable Devices WAP131 WAP351 Software Version v
Managing Configuration Files Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose Administration > Manage Configuration File. The Manage Configuration File page opens: Download/Backup Configuration Files Step 1. Navigate to the Download/Backup Configuration File area. In the Transfer Method field, choose either the Via TFTP or Via HTTP/HTTPS radio buttons to select the protocol to be used when downloading/backing up the configuration file.
Step 2. In the Save Action field, choose either the Download (PC to AP) or Backup (AP to PC) radio button to specify whether you want to download a configuration file from your PC to the WAP or backup a configuration file to your PC. Go to the Download Configuration File or Backup Configuration File section, depending on which option you choose. Download Configuration File Step 1. If you selected the Download (PC to AP) radio button in the Save Action field and Via TFTP in the Transfer Method field, enter the filename of the configuration file in the Source File Name field. If you selected Via HTTP/HTTPS in the Transfer Method field, skip to Step 3.
Note: The filename must include the full path and filename, and cannot contain the following characters: spaces, <, >,, \, :, (, ), &, ;, #,?, *, and two or more successive periods. Step 2. Enter the TFTP server IP address in the TFTP Server IPv4 Address field. Then, skip to Step 4. Step 3. If you selected Via HTTP/HTTPS in the Transfer Method field, click the Browse button in the Source File Name field to select the configuration file on your PC.
Step 4. In the Destination File Type field, select a radio button corresponding to the type of configuration you want the file to be saved as. The options are: Startup Configuration The downloaded file will be saved as the startup configuration file. The existing startup configuration file will be overwritten. Backup Configuration The downloaded file will be saved as the backup configuration file. The existing backup configuration file will be overwritten.
Step 5. Click Save. For HTTP/HTTPS downloads, a window will appear letting you select the file to download. If the configuration is restored successfully, the WAP will reboot. Backup Configuration File Step 1. In the Source File Type field, select a radio button corresponding to the configuration file you want to backup. The configuration files that can be backed up are Startup Configuration, Backup Configuration, or Mirror Configuration.
Note: If a configuration file doesn t exist on the WAP, its corresponding radio button will be grayed out. Step 2. If you selected Via TFTP in the Transfer Method field, enter in what the filename of the backup will be in the Destination File Name field. If you selected Via HTTP/HTTPS, skip to Step 4. Note: The filename must include the full path and filename, and cannot include the following characters: spaces, <, >,, \, :, (, ), &, ;, #,?, *, and two or more successive periods. Step 3. Enter the TFTP server IP address in the TFTP Server IPv4 Address field.
Step 4. Click Save. For HTTP/HTTPS downloads, a window will appear letting you choose where to save the backup. Copying a Configuration File Step 1. Navigate to the Copy/Save Configuration area. In the Source File Name field, select the radio button that corresponds to the configuration file you want to copy. You can select the Startup Configuration, Backup Configuration, or Mirror Configuration files.
Note: If a configuration file does not exist on the WAP, its radio button will be grayed out. Step 2. In the Destination File Name field, select the configuration file type that will be replaced by the file you are copying. You can select either the Startup Configuration or Backup Configuration file. Note: Depending on your selection in the Source File Name field, one of the radio buttons may be grayed out. Step 3. Click Save. Step 4. After a few moments, a pop-up window will appear indicating the copy was successful. Click OK to continue.
Deleting a Configuration File Step 1. Navigate to the Configuration Files Properties area. The Configuration File Table will display any existing configuration files saved on the WAP, along with the date and time they were created. Step 2. Click the checkboxes corresponding to any configuration file(s) you want to delete. Note: If all of the configuration files are deleted, the WAP will be reset to its factory default settings. Step 3. Click Clear Files.
Step 4. A pop-up window will appear warning that deleting a configuration file cannot be undone. Click OK to delete the selected file(s). Step 5. A pop-window will appear indicating the deletion was successful. Click OK to continue Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved.
