For example: VAN1558E Object=XXXXXXXX was not created because the auxiliary page space limit of XX% was reached An excessive number of VAN1558E messages appear in the CA Vantage log. Objects that require memory to be created are not created. After the memory shortage ends, CA Vantage is expected to operate as usual, however, the log is filled with VAN1558e messages which makes getting more information from the log impossible.

You may also specify the active TMC as input to CTSXUTIL, providing fast access to a copy of the TMC volumes and files information. In most environments, updates will be required to your security system to permit VANCONSL to issue console commands. Tape management (volume and file) objects are in this group. CA 1 and CA TLMS use Disk Interval services to achieve improved performance. Disk Interval data sets are allocated and written with the aid of scripts. Sample scripts are distributed in the CCTUSAMP library. Each script submits JCL that executes the CA Common Tape System CTSXUTIL utility to extract data from the tape product catalog using buffered sequential processing. This technique of retrieving volume and file data can be scheduled for a low-impact time. When you request the CA 1 Backup TMC objects from any of this product's clients, View Mode=DI is always used. CA TLMS objects also permit the use of both Mode=DI and Mode=RT when reading from the VMF. When Mode=RT is used in the CA TLMS objects the slower native API will be used to get the data in Real-Time, and you will have to wait considerably longer to get the data. Proper configuration involves scheduling the scripts to run just frequently enough to allow normal analysis to be done from the Disk Interval extract files. Schedule these scripts to run after your tape management system daily maintenance utilities complete so that scratch and retention information is current. The CTSXUTIL program utilizes storage buffers along with the z/os Sort to extract and reformat the CA 1 TMC or CA TLMS VMF records in one pass. CTSXUTIL also performs the following tasks: * Creates a SYSPRINT audit report that details the number and type of records processed * Creates a z/os name and token pair to pass the Disk Interval data set names to CA Vantage SRM Note: The z/os name and token pairs created (CTSXUTIL$VANTAGE and CTSXUTIL$VANTBK1) are online and accessible until the next system IPL. Find the Disk Interval scripts appropriate for your tape management system as listed in the table below. Copy the appropriate ones from the CCTUSAMP library to your system-script library, as named by system parameter SYSTSCR. It is recommended that you enable these scripts. The header of each sample contains information on how to activate the script. Additional information is also provided in this chapter in sections "Configure for CA 1" and "Configure for CA TLMS". SYSPROG - Configure CA 1 CTSXUTIL to Extract CA 1 Volumes and Files Data from a Backup TMC CA 1 allows you to view volumes and files from a point-in-time copy of the TMC. The "Backup TMC" is typically a copy of the TMC created by the CA 1 TMSCOPY utility which is written to the DUMPDD or DUMPDD2 DD statements. Disk Interval processing is used to provide access to the Backup TMC volume and file data. Separate Disk Interval files, scripts, JCL and system parameters are provided to enable this support. This allows you to perform side-by-side comparisons of current and prior TMCs. You may also specify the active TMC as input to CTSXUTIL, providing fast access to a copy of the TMC volumes and files information. View Mode=DI is the only supported mode of access and there is no update capability. To configure the CA 1 CTSXUTIL Extract utility job to extract CA 1 volumes and files data from a Backup TMC, perform the following steps. 1. Job J05CA1, run previously, allocated the required Disk Interval files for the Backup TMC objects. You must now update the system parameters in VKGPARMS to identify the data set names used for the Backup TMC objects: CA1BKTMC (%%CA1BKTMC%%) * Input - Default Backup TMC name CTSBK1F (%%CTSBK1F%%) * Output - DI Extract for Backup Files CTSBK1V (%%CTSBK1V%%) * Output - DI Extract for Backup Volumes 2. Update JCLLIB member TMCDSKB that was copied from the CCTUSAMP library. This job, which executes the CTSXUTIL program, has three steps - one to run to create the extract data sets, and one to set the Disk Interval token (that is, update CA Vantage SRM with the date and time of when the job was run). The third step issues a console command to fire the DSKTMBM script. The DSKTMBM script creates an internal object with DSNB summary information used in formatting the Backup TMC Volumes. Note: The execution parameter value of BKUPTMC must be specified on the EXEC statement of the JCLLIB member, as below: //stepname EXEC PGM=CTSXUTIL,PARM='BKUPTMC' The Backup TMC Volumes and Backup TMC Files objects provide access to a point-in-time copy of the TMC. For any specific Backup TMC copy to be viewed, it is only necessary to fire the DSKTMCB script once. If you are primarily using the Backup TMC objects to view data from various old copies of the TMC there is no need to schedule the firing of the DSKTMCB script. Alternatively, you might choose to schedule this script to copy the active TMC as your default input for the Backup TMC objects. In this case you should schedule the script to fire after the completion of your CA 1 daily utilities. Follow the instructions provided in the DSKTMCB script to configure it for daily execution at a specific time. To view files or volumes records from a Backup TMC: a. Identify the name of the Backup TMC that you want to view. The system parameter CA1BKTMC will be used by default. You may specify an alternate Backup TMC name to be processed with the "Enter Backup TMC" Action in the Backup Volumes object. The Backup TMC name must be cataloged. The Backup TMC name entered will override the setting of CA1BKTMC while the CA Vantage SAMS task is active, but if CA Vantage is stopped and restarted the value in VKGPARMS is again set as the Backup TMC to process. b. Fire the DSKTMCB script using the "Run DSKTMCB Scr" Action in the Backup Volumes object. This will submit a job to execute the CTSXUTIL program using the CA1BKTMC system parameter to identify the Backup TMC to process. This will create both Disk Interval extract files (CTSBK1F and CTSBK1V) subsequently
