Usig Video software Recordig edited videos o a DV device To record edited videos o a DV device, proceed as follows: 1 Adjust the recordig correctio values. 2 Add files to the Record List. 3 Record remotely or maually the video o the DV device. 28 Adjustig the recordig correctio values To esure accuracy i the recordig, you ca specify recordig correctio values. Adjustmet of the recordig correctio values is especially importat whe performig splice recordig. You ca choose to specify the values yourself or to have them automatically adjusted by usig the automatic calibratio feature. The values geerated by the automatic calibratio feature are usually correct. To automatically adjust the recordig correctio values, proceed as follows: 1 Lauch DVgate Motio. 2 Click the dow arrow ad select Export - Auto from the Mode drop-dow list. 3 Select Adjust o Recordig from the Settigs meu. The Add dialog box appears. 3 Select a file ad click Ope. The specified file is added ad the serial umber, first ad last images, time code, file legth ad file ame are displayed. DVgate Motio adds all serial umbered files with the same ame if you select Add all divided files saved with the same ame. Serial umbered files are created whe you specify to save files as multiple files i DVgate Motio ad DVgate Assemble. All ewly added files are appeded to the ed of the list. You ca drag multiple files at oe time; however, the order i which they are added is upredictable. You ca record AVI files with differet soud modes o a DV device, but about oe secod of o soud (depedig o the DV device) may occur at the poit where the soud modes chage. You ca oly add AVI files usig DV Codec as video compressio; MPEG files are ot supported. Whe recordig a video sequece, make sure that all images are saved i the same mode. Recordig i differet modes might cause soud or image distortios durig playback. 29 After addig the files to the Record List, you ca still chage the order of the files, add or delete files. To chage the order of the files i the Record List, proceed as follows: 1 Click the file you wat to move while holdig dow the mouse butto. 2 Drag the file to the appropriate positio ad the release the mouse butto. To remove a file from the Record List, proceed as follows: 1 Click the file you wat to remove.

Usig Video software 2 Click Delete. The removed file is filled by the subsequet file ad the files are reumbered. Click Delete All to remove all files. You ca select multiple AVI or still picture files from the Record List by clickig them while holdig dow the <Shift> or <Ctrl> key. Whe you move multiple files, they are all moved together. If Click to DVD is ot already istalled o your computer, please istall it from the separate Click to DVD disc before you cotiue. The followig file formats are supported for importig edited videos: Videos: MPEG1 or (but ot at the same time as) MPEG2 ad DV-AVI. Photos: JPEG, BMP, TIFF. 82 Recommeded settigs To use Click to DVD ad Click to DVD automatic mode, you should defie some settigs o your computer. To do so, you must log o to your computer as a user with Admiistrator rights. Here are some recommeded settigs to prevet frame dropout occurrig. Please see the olie Help files for more details. Discoect USB peripheral devices. Some USB peripheral devices (ad their drivers) make great demads o your computer's processor. If you experiece frame dropout ad you are usig USB peripheral devices, discoect those devices from your computer or disable them. Exit other programs. Usig Click to DVD Defragmet your hard disk drive. Optimise (defragmet) the hard disk o which you store the workig files for Click to DVD ad Click to DVD Automatic Mode. If your computer is coected to a etwork, discoect it by upluggig the etwork cable from the etwork adapter or by disablig the etwork adapter. Stop scheduled tasks. Use the Click to DVD Project Admiistratio Tool to help you maage your files (see Maagig project files with Click to DVD Project Admiistratio Tool (page 100)). To trasfer a specific video segmet or to edit your video, use the full Click to DVD software, rather tha the Click to DVD Automatic Mode software. Use a i.lik cable (ot supplied) to coect DV devices to the computer. Click to DVD ad Click to DVD Automatic Mode will ot work if you use a USB cable to make this coectio. Whe loadig images from a device, do ot tur off or uplug the device, ad do ot operate ay of its cotrols. The video ad audio compressio method used by Click to DVD varies accordig to recordig time. Whe recordig time exceeds the DVD capacity, audio is first compressed to AC-3 format. If the recordig still exceeds DVD capacity, the video bit rate is reduced. Whe the Click to DVD Automatic Mode applicatio is closed, ay video that was loaded from a device oto the computer s hard disk is deleted. You eed at least 24 GB of free space to create a 60 mi DVD (High Quality) usig the Click to DVD software. A miimum of 10 GB is required whe usig the Click to DVD Automatic mode software to create a DVD of the same legth. The amout of time eeded to create a DVD depeds o a variety of factors, icludig: legth of the video that you are recordig; processig speed of your computer; DVD-writig speed of your DVD±RW drive; umber of chapter thumbails that must be created for the DVD meu; type of media used. 84

Usig Click to DVD Creatig DVDs There are two user modes withi Click to DVD: Click to DVD Automatic Mode allows you to hadle the process with oe or just a few mouse-clicks. Click to DVD also allows you to chage differet settigs, have more cotrol over the process ad perform raw editig of the video. I this mode, you ca also create photo albums ad slideshows. Click to DVD ad Click to DVD Automatic Mode caot be ope at the same time. 87 Click to DVD Automatic Mode Click to DVD Automatic Mode is the less advaced ad quickest mode. It eables you to create DVDs with meus of videos recorded oto digital videotape. By clickig a few buttos, the software automatically trasfers the video to your computer ad creates the DVD. Your digital video camera recorder must have a DV-OUT coector to use this mode. To lauch Click to DVD Automatic Mode, proceed as follows: 1 Make sure Click to DVD has bee istalled from the separate Click to DVD disc, if ecessary, before you cotiue. 2 Coect your digital video camera to your computer with the i.lik cable (ot supplied), tur the device o ad set it to a mode that allows playback. 3 Place a DVD writable disc ito the computer s DVD±RW drive. 4 Click Start, All Programs, Click to DVD, Click to DVD Automatic Mode. Alteratively, double-click the shortcut o your computer s desktop. The mai widow appears.

Usig Click to DVD Creatig a DVD automatically To create a DVD automatically, proceed as follows: 1 Type a title for the DVD. You ca choose ay title you like ad type it i the DVD Title text box. The title appears o the meu scree of the DVD that you are creatig. 2 Select a theme for the DVD s meu backgroud. You ca choose ay available predesiged theme by clickig the Select a theme butto. 3 If you do ot wat to hear ay backgroud music, select the Mutig check box. If you do ot check the Mutig check box, you will hear a musical theme matchig the image of the DVD s meu backgroud. Please ote that this is to mute the music while preparig the project, music will be played o the DVD ayway. 4 Cofirm by clickig OK. 5 If you wat the software to rewid the tape i your camera recorder ad start capturig from the begiig of the tape, check the Capture from start of tape check box. Otherwise, the software will start capturig the tape at its preset positio. 6 Click the Settigs ico to defie how may chapters ad thumbail images you wat i the DVD meu. 7 I Settigs you ca also choose the locatio where the captured video will be stored. The default folder is D:\Click to DVD. 8 Cofirm by clickig OK. 9 Click Create DVD! Click to DVD Automatic Mode begis trasferrig the video cotet from the DV device to the computer. After the video is trasferred, the data is coverted to a DVD format. Whe the coversio is complete, the data is automatically saved oto the disc. The progress of these steps is displayed i the dialog box ad ca take some time. Whe the DVD is complete, a message dialog box appears. 88

You ca edit videos, as well as create a meu scree. You ca save your DVD projects ad edit them later. Each clip becomes a idividual chapter o the DVD. 5 Whe the video reaches the ed of the segmet you wat to capture, click Stop. The video capturig stops. Clickig Stop does ot stop tape playback o the digital video device. 6 Repeat the capture procedure for all the video segmets for your DVD. Usig Click to DVD Importig video files O your DVDs you ca iclude video files stored o your computer's hard disk drive. You ca also load MPEG files ad DV-AVI files that were created by Giga Pocket or DVgate (depedig o the software budled with your computer). To import stored video files, proceed as follows: 1 Click Capture Video i the step guide. The Capture Video widow appears. 2 Click Import. The Ope dialog box appears. 3 Select the video file to be added. The selected video file is imported, ad the imported file clip appears i the clip tray. Ay uwated clips ca be deleted before the DVD is created. For desktop models with Giga Pocket: You ca drag ad drop video capsules created by Giga Pocket ito the clip tray of your DVD project. To do this, drag the video capsules from the Giga Pocket Explorer widow, makig sure you close the Giga Pocket mai widow before lauchig Click to DVD. You caot write both MPEG1 files ad other file formats to the same DVD. Whe loadig MPEG files, select either MPEG1 files or files i a format other tha MPEG1. 93 Editig videos The Clip Editig scree eables you to edit videos. You ca divide videos ito clips, delete uecessary scees, ad chage the order i which clips are played. To edit your video before creatig the DVD, proceed as follows: 1 Click Edit Video o the step guide. The Edit Video widow appears.

Usig Click to DVD 2 Select your optios as follows: To divide a clip ito two separate clips: Move the slider that appears beeath the moitor to display the poit i the clip where you wat to divide the clip. Click Divide. The clip is divided ito two clips. To delete a uwated portio of the clip, divide the clip, ad the move the uwated clip to the recycle bi. To combie two adjacet clips ito oe: Select the left clip of the pair to be combied, ad the click Combie selected clip with ext clip task. Alteratively, click the Combie butto betwee the clips to be combied. The combied clips become a idividual chapter o the DVD. To rearrage the order that clips appear i o the DVD: Select the clips to be moved, ad the click where you wat the clips to appear. Alteratively, drag the clips to be moved to the positio where you wat the clips to appear. To delete clips from your DVD project: Select the clip to be deleted, ad the click the Sed this clip to the Recycle Bi task. Alteratively, drag the clip to be deleted to the Recycle Bi. To restore a clip, click the Recover clips from Recycle Bi task, ad the select the clip to be restored to the clip tray i the dialog box that appears. 94 Previewig videos You ca play back a clip by usig the Clip Playback Cotrol buttos. The video clip that is curretly beig played appears i the moitor. To play all clips i order, click Play All.

Usig Click to DVD You ca also play oly selected clips by selectig them before clickig Play All. Although a black scree appears betwee successive clips whe multiple clips are played, this black scree is ot icluded whe you write the clips to DVD. Importig still images 95 Whe creatig a photo album or slide show DVD, you ca import pictures from your computer's hard disk drive or from a exteral device, such as a digital still camera or a Memory Stick. You ca import pictures saved i Bitmap, JPEG, or TIFF format. Importig pictures stored o the computer's hard disk To import pictures stored o the hard disk, proceed as follows: 1 Click Import Pictures i the step guide. The Import Pictures widow appears, ad the pictures i the curretly selected folder, as well as the pictures i all subfolders, are displayed as thumbails i the display area. 2 To import a photo from a differet folder: Click Browse for Folder. The Ope Folder dialog box appears. Select a folder. The pictures saved i the selected folder, as well as pictures saved i all subfolders, are displayed as thumbails. Up to four thumbails ca be displayed at oce. To display all of the pictures i a folder, click the Ope Folder butto. 3 Click Import. Usig Click to DVD Importig pictures from a exteral device To import pictures from a exteral device, proceed as follows: 1 Coect the device (digital still camera or Memory Stick ) to your computer. For details o how to coect the device to your computer, refer to the user mauals provided with the device ad computer. 2 Click the Import Pictures butto i the step guide. The Import Pictures widow appears, ad the pictures i the curretly selected folder, as well as the pictures i all subfolders, are displayed i the display area. 3 Click Exteral Device. The Ope File dialog box appears. 4 Select the folder for the coected device. Thumbails of the pictures i the selected folder are displayed. Up to four thumbails ca be displayed at oce. 5 If you do ot wat to import all the images i the folder, select the check boxes for the pictures that you wat to import. 6 Click the Ope Folder butto. 7 Click Import. The images are imported ad displayed i the clip tray. 96 Creatig a album You ca create a photo album from your imported picture files before puttig them oto DVD. You ca chage the sequece i which pictures are displayed durig playback, rotate the images, chage your cotet setup, or make slide show settigs. To create a album, proceed as follows: 1 Clickig the Create Album butto i the step guide. The Create Album widow appears.

Usig Click to DVD 2 Choose your album settigs as follows: Chage the order i which pictures are displayed whe the DVD is played by draggig pictures to the appropriate positio. Alteratively, click the Arrage butto. The Arrage Pictures dialog box appears where you ca order the images by date or file ame. Rotate a picture by selectig the picture, ad the clickig either Rotate Couter clockwise or Rotate Clockwise. Whe the cofirmatio dialog box appears, click OK. Elarge a picture by selectig the picture, ad clickig View. The Sigle Photo Display dialog box appears, ad a elarged view of the selected picture is displayed. Delete a picture from the project by selectig the picture, ad clickig Delete. Whe the cofirmatio dialog box appears, click OK. If you a made a slide-show, you ca set the display time for each picture ad the backgroud music played durig the slideshow. Click the Slide Show Settigs butto to make these settigs. Specify the display time for each picture i a slide show with the Display Time optio. The time specified icludes the time it takes to trasitio from oe photo to the ext. If Match slide show legth with the legth of the Backgroud Music is selected, the playback time is set automatically so that the display of all pictures eds whe the backgroud music eds. Add music to your photo album by selectig the Attach Backgroud Music check box. Click Browse ad the select the file to be used as the backgroud music. You ca use WAV ad MP3 format audio files. If the backgroud music does ot allow the Match slide show legth with the legth of the Backgroud Music settig to display the pictures for more tha 3 secods, the backgroud music is automatically repeated to allow a display time loger tha 3 secods per picture. 97

Usig Click to DVD Creatig meu screes Before writig to the DVD, you ca create or edit the DVD s Meu scree. You ca choose a theme ad backgroud music, chage the text o meu screes, ad more. To chage these settigs, click Create Meu i the step guide to ope the Meu scree. Some settigs apply to all meus o all meu screes i a DVD project, while other settigs ca be set differetly for each meu scree. Click Meu Scree Select o the left side of the scree to chage the meu scree that you are cofigurig. The umber of chapters that ca be displayed i a sigle Photo Meu is aroud 90. If ot all chapters fit i a sigle Photo Meu, Photo Meu 2 ad Photo Meu 3 are automatically created. You ca display a maximum of aroud 270 chapters. 98 Previewig DVDs Before actually writig your project to the DVD, you ca see a preview of the cotets. To preview the DVD, proceed as follows: 1 Click Preview o the DVD writig scree or Meu scree. The Preview scree appears. 2 Use the remote cotrol buttos displayed ext to the preview scree to check the cotet that is to be writte to the DVD. 3 To ed the preview; click the Ed butto or the widow s Close butto. Creatig DVDs Oce you have completed the desig of your DVD project, you ca ow write the project to a DVD disc. You ca write your project to a blak DVD+/-R or DVD+/-RW disc. The time required to create a DVD differs depedig o the type of computer you are usig ad the amout of data icluded i your project, but it usually takes about three hours to create a oe-hour-log DVD.

Usig Click to DVD To create a DVD, proceed as follows: 1 Click Write DVD i the step guide. The DVD writig widow appears. 2 Place a blak disc i your computer's DVD±RW drive. 3 Click Write. Your DVD is beig created, ad the progress is displayed o the scree. Whe writig is complete, a message widow appears. 4 To write additioal discs, click Yes; to stop, click o. The DVD is ow fiished ad the DVD±RW drive tray opes. 5 If you thik you may wat to use this project later, save your project file. You caot use a DVD+/-R disc o which data has already bee writte. The amout of time eeded to create a DVD depeds o the legth of the video that you are recordig ad o the processig speed of your computer. 99 Savig project files All the iformatio about your DVD project, icludig the file ames of your video or pictures, the locatio where those files are stored, the theme, ad the meus, ca be saved i a file called project file. You ca also save your project iformatio while your work is i progress. If you exit Click to DVD before completig all the ecessary work for a project, the project file is used to resume work later from where you left off. To save the project file, click M (meu butto) ad select either Save Project As or Save Project. I the future, you ca ope this project file to create copies of your DVD or to use as a basis for other DVD projects.

Usig Click to DVD Maagig project files with Click to DVD Project Admiistratio Tool The Click to DVD Project Admiistratio Tool has the followig fuctios to help you maage your temporary files: Searches for video files that are ot used by ay existig Click to DVD projects ad asks for your cofirmatio to delete them. Searches for video files that are still used by existig Click to DVD projects, ad asks you to cofirm if you wat to delete the project file (*.ctd) ad the associated video files. This will allow you to free hard disk space occupied by temporary files of a project you already fialised or that you o loger wat to keep. The Click to DVD Project Admiistratio Tool relies o the settigs specified by the optios, Save captured video file i: ad Save temp file i: whe you save the project. If ay of the files are moved to other folders after savig the project, this tool may ot fid all uused files or the files associated with the project you wish to delete. 100 Re-editig project files You ca retur to a saved project file to add material or chage your meu desig. This is called "re-editig" a project. To re-edit a project, proceed as follows: 1 Click M (meu butto), ad the select Ope Project from the meu that appears. Alteratively, O the start scree, click the Ope Project task. The Ope File dialog box appears. 2 Select the project file to be used. You ca resume work from the poit where you left off the last time you saved the project file.

Usig Click to DVD Playig back DVDs created with Click to DVD You ca play DVDs that you have created with Click to DVD o most home DVD players or o computers that have a DVD drive ad DVD playig software. For more details o how to play DVDs, refer to the operatio maual or Help Fuctio for your DVD player or DVD playig software. 101 Troubleshootig I caot trasfer video clips from a exteral device Use a i.lik cable (ot supplied) to coect the DV device to the computer ad make sure the device is coected to the computer properly. You caot trasfer video cotet if there is ot eough free space available o the hard disk drive of your computer. Either chage the locatio of the temporary files to a folder o a drive with eough free space available, or delete uecessary files from the curret destiatio to create eough free space. Use the Project Admiistratio Tool to help you delete the uused temporary files. I caot write to DVD Videos caot be writte to a DVD±R disc if data was already writte to that disc. Use either a blak DVD±R disc or else use a DVD±RW disc. The "Hardware Overlay Error" message appears If aother applicatio is usig the hardware overlay, this meas it is temporarily overridig your desktop settigs ad prevetig Click to DVD from lauchig. Close the relevat applicatio ad relauch Click to DVD. This does ot apply to Click to DVD Automatic mode.

Usig Click to DVD For desktop models with Giga Pocket: If you are usig to use Click to DVD through Giga Pocket Explorer, before clickig Make DVD or Sed to > Click to DVD, close the mai Giga Pocket widow. You ca the proceed as ormal. Click to DVD will ot erase the cotets of my DVD±RW media To be able to reuse your DVD±RW media, please erase the DVD±RW data usig Recordow. 102 I caot tur the computer off or use a power savig mode while Click to DVD is ope Please close Click to DVD before turig off the computer or usig power savig modes. It allows you to: Liste to sogs registered i SoicStage 1.5 playlists, View photos i a shared folder, Watch video capsules recorded with Giga Pocket 5.0. VAIO Media cosists of: VAIO Media Platform (page 104), VAIO Media Redistributio (page 108), VAIO Media Photo Server (page 109), VAIO Media Music Server (page 113), VAIO Media Video Server (page 117). System requiremets: Widows XP Home Editio or Widows XP Professioal. It is strogly recommeded that you use server software oly whe the server computer is ot coected to the Iteret or is coected to the Iteret through a router. Whe coectig to the Iteret through a router, cofigure the router to prevet uauthorized accesses from outside your local etwork. For more iformatio about cofigurig your router, refer to the maual that came with the router. If you coect to the Iteret through some router cofiguratios, some software programs that require global IP addresses may ot work properly. Istallig routers may ot be permitted by some of the Iteret service providers. For more iformatio, cosult your provider. By default, the server software programs do ot permit access from other devices o your etwork. To access the server from other devices o your etwork, tur o access for those devices, ad, if ecessary, register the devices. If the Iteret Coectio Firewall (ICF) feature of Widows XP is eabled or if you are usig other software that has persoal firewall fuctios, the server software programs may ot work properly. Disable firewall fuctios for etwork coectios that are ot directly coectig to the Iteret. To eable or disable ICF, proceed as follows: 1. Click Start ad select Cotrol Pael. 2. Double-click the etwork Coectios ico. 3. Select the Dial-up, LA or High-Speed Iteret coectio that you wat to protect, ad the, uder etwork Tasks, click Chage settigs of this coectio. 106

O the Advaced tab, uder Iteret Coectio Firewall, select oe of the followig:- To eable Iteret Coectio Firewall select the Protect my computer ad etwork by limitig or prevetig access to this computer from the Iteret. - To disable Iteret Coectio Firewall, clear the checkbox. If the server computer eters Stadby or Hiberatio mode, other devices o your etwork will ot be able to fid the server software programs or will fail to play or view music, photo or video cotets. Adjust the Power Optios i the Cotrol Pael so that the server computer does ot eter Stadby or Hiberatio mode. I some situatios, the server may ot be foud by VAIO Media or other devices o your etwork, eve if the idividual server software programs are workig properly. If this occurs, stop the server software by usig the VAIO Media Cosole, ad the restart the server computer. If the problem persists, restart the cliet computer. I compliace with the terms ad coditios of the Ed-User Licese Agreemet for Widows XP, you may permit a maximum of five (5) computer (for Widows XP Home Editio) or te (10) computers (for Widows XP Professioal) or other electroic devices to coect to the computer to utilize the services of the product exclusively for file ad prit services, Iteret Iformatio Services, ad remote access (icludig coectio sharig ad telephoy services). 107

To be able to do this, you eed to istall the VAIO Media Istaller o the cliet computer. To istall the VAIO Media Istaller, proceed as follows: 1 Close all ruig applicatios. 2 Click Start ad select VAIO Media. 3 Click Istall VAIO Media to other VAIO PCs. 4 Click the Get Istaller butto i the middle of the page. A dialogue box appears. 5 Click the Save butto. The Save As scree appears. 6 Specify where you wat to save the istaller. 7 Click the Save butto. The istaller is saved i the specified locatio. 8 Copy the saved istaller to a CD-R, Memory Stick or aother media. 9 Istall the saved istaller o the cliet computer by double-clickig the VM20Ist.exe. 10 Before ruig VAIO Media ad accessig music, photos ad video recordigs from other computers, you must first register those computers o the computer where VAIO Media is istalled.!
