Planned availability date September 17, 2010: Electronic software delivery October 1, 2010: Physical software delivery Description COBOL for Windows, V7.6 also includes: Redistributable runtime libraries COBOL for Windows runtime libraries can be redistributed with your applications at no additional charge. This reduces both cost and complexity when deploying applications. Database programming support COBOL for Windows provides support for both embedded SQL and for ODBC to enable relational database access in COBOL applications. Object-oriented COBOL support COBOL for Windows provides object-oriented syntax to facilitate the interoperation of COBOL and Java TM programs based upon the facilities of the Java Native Interface, which is the primary means provided by Java for interoperation with non-java programs. Object-oriented COBOL syntax is designed to let customers write COBOL code that: Creates object instances of classes that are written in Java or COBOL Invokes methods on Java or COBOL objects Defines classes with methods written in COBOL XML support COBOL for Windows allows you to process XML input in your COBOL program by using the XML PARSE statement. The parser delivers an events-based interface so you can parse XML documents and transform them into COBOL data structures. You can produce XML output from a COBOL for Windows program using the XML GENERATE statement. Unicode support Basic runtime support for Unicode in COBOL for Windows handles tens of thousands of characters that cover all commonly used characters and symbols in the world. COBOL for Windows uses UTF-16 in little-endian format in national data. If you need to process UTF-8 or UTF-16BE data, the compiler offers NATIONAL-OF and DISPLAY- OF intrinsic functions to convert to and from UTF-16LE. Debugging options COBOL for Windows offers several language elements, compiler options, and listing outputs that make application debugging easier. Alternatively, COBOL for Windows supports the TEST compiler option, that enables your programs for the interactive debugger facility of IBMRational Developer for System z.
