Lofted Surface (water-formed cardstock) Strips are cut out of the cardstock to line up with the cradle spines. Material Placement Plastic umbrella layer over the lofted surface, resting on the cradle. Aggregation Strategy (Each unit has a rounding tab which holds the tensioned plastic together with its adjacent piece) Basic Umbrella Component x 117 units Wooden Cradle (basawood) 1/4 projecting tabs float the cradle above the T-bar of the suspended ceiling, to support the weight of the lofted surface and the umbrella aggregation

Instead, Mylar sheets were laser cut. Mylarfabrication-117partsweremadeintheend,eachatonegeneralsize.Thepiecesweretabbedalongtheedges,andglue-gunassemblymadeitwork.Eventuallythetabs neededtobefoldedsothatcompressionforcesaroundtheedgeswouldnotbecomeadd stressandbreakthebondsatthepointsofassembly.theinitialtestfailed,asitdidnot havetabsalongtheedges.thesecondtestalsodidnotwork,sinceeachindividualcomponentneededamoreefficientwaytoconnecttoitsadjacentparts.thethirdtestwassuccessful.
