1 Krita Advanced Coloring Tutorial! So I m going to now teach you some methods to coloring your lineart REMEMBER: Save lots during your project and save different versions so you can go back into your older work! So let s start with our cleaned lineart: So your lines are all cleaned up with the lineart tutorial you ve already done so the first step is filling in the large areas of color 1) The Background ( I would normally fill this in as a gradient color, don t worry too much about the colors you choose since you can change the hues as you like later.

Just try to get more or less the shape of each selection either by using the magic wand or by using the polygon lasso. 4 3) Highlights: using screen mode To get natural looking light going onto your colored picture I would use a brush with the setting screen. This will gradually make a selection brighter Lower the opacity of your brush so you can build up light slower.

Tip: you can pick a color with the color selector and then just make it darker by dragging the color selection down Tips for skin: the shadows in skin aren t just shades of brown, they are in shades of purples and greens. For more vibrant shadows introduce different colors. I always find it really helpful to start off with a pretty loose idea of what I m doing and refine it more as I go along

7 For example I would loosly lay in my brown shadows overtop my base skin tone, then I would keep adding different highlights to the layers overtop. (note: yeah I know this looks different than the last version I showed you I just decided to change the color of the lineart so that it had brown tones and the tone of the skin so it wasn t so orangey.) So here is the brown shadow tones: here s the green tones: Note: While I m doing skin I try to keep a reference of someone who s skin tone I want to replicate so I have something to base the colors for my shadows and highlight off of After adding the highlight and shadows its all about adding more details and refining. For the shadows I would add shadows to the hair and add another skin tone overtop to make it smoother like so:

(I also changed the hue of the hair) Then my final touch was to change the background color to match her hair better:

9 And then to add a little bit of tone to make it interesting (with one of the water color brushes on screen mode) Then I added a bit of texture with a chalk pastel brush

10 Summary: So what you should have gotten from this is: Use references if you re trying to get realistic colors and shadows Use screen mode to add realistic light Bring down the opacity of your shadows and add several different layers of different shades Start off loosely and define your details more over time MAKE LOTS OF LAYERS!
