1 REPORT ON SOLIDWORKS SEMINAR HELD AT D.A. EDUCATION CAMPUS, PRESENTED BY KHODIYAR INFOTECH, M. UJAS SUTHAR, TECHNICAL MANAGER, MR. JIGAR MODH AND MR. PINTU A seminar on SOLIDWORKS was organised at D.A. education campus on 18 th August, 2018, Saturday. All the faculties of diploma and degree mechanical engineering department attended this seminar. The seminar was initiated by Mr. Ujas Suthar, the technical manager for Khodiyar Infotech who started off by giving the introduction of the company he represented. Khodiyar Infotech is a part of Khodiyar group which is associated with CAD industries in Gujarat. Khodiyar Infotech was founded on 16 th March, 2009 with an aim to develop Engineering skills.

2 Khodiyar Infotech is a value-added reseller of SLIDWORKS. He began by discussing all the features of Solidworks available with the Educational Pack. The various features are:- 3D CAD Simulation Inspection Technical Communication Partner Products Free Tools Draftsight The educational pack comprises of a combination of all of the above valueadded features. Licenses available are of 3 types Classroom, Campus and University. Also with the campus and university license, the use will be able to appea for Certified Solidworks Examination. SOLIDWORKS TODAY has nearly 32,45,750 certified users of Solidworks, clientele base and it is operational in 80 countries. Clients range from consumer, hitech, energy, construction, life sciences, automotive and aerospace.

3 Solidworks offers intuitive solutions for every stage:- Design Manage Sustain Communicate Simulate The CAD prospects of Solidworks makes it easy to use, enables re-use of 2D and 3D data and has valuable innovative communication tools. We saw the assembly drawing of Resemin Bolter, a huge and robust multidirectional drilling machine used for making tunnels. We realised that it is the inbuilt functionality of solidworks to open a complex assembly within a span of less than 30 seconds. He also demonstrated how to draw a knuckle joint used to bridge the gap between the hydraulic cylinder and the bracket. We can very easily prepare the 2D drawing, drag to 3D and give dimensions. Also, we can directly get the front view, rear view, top view and isometric view along with the dimensions. It is also possible to use the feature called SmartComponent and create a hole in any part. Solidworks has the inbuilt functionality of automatically adjusting the dimensions. An expander pin can also be inserted in the hole of the knuckle joint using a feature called Buildmate. If we are required to insert a flange in the hole and if the dimension of the flange and the knuckle intersect, Solidworks will automatically adjust the dimensions.

4 It makes use of the function EXPLODE to prepare animations and the Bill of material also gets prepared directly with dimensions. If the file is demanded by someone who is not a user of Solidworks, we can use the feature of viewer, markup the entire drawing with annotations and send the file to the user. The paid app of e-drawing is available for standard and professional modes, with the desktop version freely available. Also, an incredible feature of Augmented Reality is available with e-drawings. SIMULATION If we use Ansys or Nastra, for every part drawing the behaviour can be simulated with the boundary conditions, and with the change in boundary conditions, separate step file has to be prepared. But simulation is an add-in feature of solidworks where Finite Element Analysis, fatigue analysis, dynamic analysis, thermal analysis and linear/non-linear motion analysis is possible. Trend tracker is a feature wherein we can compile all the iterations and identify the final applicable iteration for the final design. Dynamic analysis is also possible. For Example, motion study of the vibrator balls, where we can watch the behaviour of movement. Flow simulation is also an auto-integrated feature of CAD drawings. Event based motion analysis is also possible for operations that are sequential and interdependent. For piping and tubing, a software called Isogen is inbuilt with solidworks, or else for other softwares, the users have to purchase it on a rental basis with annual renewal. Simulation of Electrical works is also possible and creation of walk through can be done for any site or plant layout. A special feature called Composer is used for preparing Operation Manual. Eg. If the brake shoe of a bicycle has to be changed, it can be shown by video demonstration.

5 Online library is also available at 3D content centre. Khodiyar infotech also provides pre-sales support, post-sales support which includes installation and training of faculty. The session was very educative and knowledge-enhancing.
