1 Radan Release Notes Radan 2016 This information package contains an overview of changes introduced in the Radan 2016 issue of software. If you have any questions relating to the changes made, please contact Radan or your system supplier.

3 1.2 3D D File Import Currently, the following file formats are supported when importing 3D models into Radan 3D. For most formats, Radan uses SolidLink to import files. For some formats, there is a backup method which can be used when a model can t be imported. In the case of Autodesk Inventor, the translation can be done using a component from Autodesk (Apprentice), which is installed with Inventor and their free viewing software Inventor View. This means that when a new version of Inventor is released, but SolidLink hasn t been updated to support this version, Radan 3D will still be able to import the model if the new Inventor View software is installed on the system. A similar (but not quite as easy) process can be used for SolidWorks. In Radan 3D, the user can force the system not to use SolidLink (i.e. use the Alternate method) by selecting the option in the Import Options dialog. 3 P a g e

This can be useful when importing 3 rd party assemblies and removing parts that are not of interest. 4 P a g e

6 The 3D side panel is accessible from the Selection mode, which is available in part modelling and assembly mode. The panel can show the contents of the model as a list or as a tree, showing the assembly structure if present. In Selection mode, parts selected in the side panel are highlighted in the 3D window and parts selected in the 3D window are selected in the side panel. The user can perform a number of actions from the side panel, including delete, change name, material and visibility. The list view can be sorted and grouped by various properties. 6 P a g e

7 1.4 Profiling Open Profiles Automatic tooling now allows the user to specify a start condition to open profiles. In the automatic tooling dialog, a new page shows the parameters to specify the details. The minimum length is used as follows; if the minimum length has been reached, the start condition will not be added to any further features. This controls the behaviour when the first features on an open profile are very small, as shown in the following example. Figure 1: minimum length set to a large value 7 P a g e

10 1.4.3 Cutting Conditions Areas where the user can select a cutting condition now show a more meaningful list of options. The lists now show the description of the cutting condition, as well as the number. Also, only relevant conditions are shown, e.g. in the above list of possible lead-in conditions, conditions for marking and vaporising are not shown. Conversely, only vaporising conditions are shown when choosing the duplicate cutting condition: Cutting Condition Colours Previously, the colour used to represent a cutting condition on the screen could vary per machine, material, thickness and strategy. In order to keep the colours consistent, they are represented by a fixed colour; this colour can be specified in the Machine Configuration Editor. 10 P a g e

11 1.4.4 Pens and Actions In automatic tooling, all pens and their associated actions are now shown and managed on one single page in the automatic tooling dialog. 11 P a g e

12 This brings together a maximum of three previous pages into one, removing the chance of duplicate actions for a pen. The dialog that is used to modify the settings is designed to prevent conflicting settings. 12 P a g e

13 1.5 Automatic Tooling Automatic Tooling Mode In Radan CAD/CAM 2016 a new automatic tooling mode has been introduced. This new mode is the default mode when the user switches to tooling mode. Pressing Select All will auto-tool the part or nest without any more interaction. 13 P a g e

15 The automatic tooling dialog can be shown automatically (as before), pressing the Settings button or the Automatic tooling icon ( ). In the new Automatic Tooling mode, the user can use single-click or windows to select the profiles that should be auto-tooled. This allows the user to vary the settings per profile, e.g. decide to destroy or tag a profile Import Automatic Tooling Settings To make it easier to copy settings from one material/thickness/strategy, all material specific dialogs now have a new option to import settings. 15 P a g e

17 1.6 2D Import The 2D import options have been extended to allow more detailed mapping of input geometry to output geometry. For example, the user can: - Ignore anything that is blue - Convert any red geometry on layer ETCH to Pen 5, full line type - Draw chain and dashed output line types as line segments This extended mapping is shown on the new Mappings page. Any number of mappings can be added. If a feature matches two or more mappings, one property is more important than the other, i.e. layer trumps pen and pen trumps line type. 17 P a g e

18 1.7 Raster to Vector In Radan CAD/CAM 2016, a new import option allows bitmaps to be imported the resulting geometry can be imported as a new part or drawing. The dialog that opens after choosing a file allows limited manipulation of the graphics before the vector graphics are generated. 18 P a g e

20 1.8 New Setup Sheets It is now possible to design setup sheets using the new WYSIWYG report designer. Currently, only setup sheets can be designed in this way but it is the intention to introduce the same technology for nest project reports and other areas of the software. The new reporting is active by default for new installations, but can be activated for existing users as well. The new reports do not work in conjunction with Radview yet. The report designer that is used is a 3 rd party component called XtraReports by Devexpress. The reports can include graphics, charts, bar codes and QR codes and the designer is easy to use with a short learning curve. 20 P a g e

21 R a d a n R e l e a s e N o t e s R a d b e n d 2 Radbend 2.1 Minimum Flange Definition Radbend 2016 has improved handling for small flanges. The calculations used to determine the minimum flange length that can be bent with a die have been improved. When the user manually selects a die and the software detects that the flange to be bent is smaller than the minimum length allowed for the selected die, the message shown explains this clearly. The software uses a security distance that is related to the material thickness (formula:default = (0.25 material thickness) + 0.2mm) The software checks the following situations: - Flat state prior to bending, the unfolded product should be sufficiently long to rest on the die - Bent state after the bending phase, the bent product should be sufficiently long to rest on the die 21 P a g e

22 R a d a n R e l e a s e N o t e s R a d b e n d 2.2 Automatic Tool Changer (ATC) Support The machine above is a LVD TOOLCELL with automatic tool changer. During first implementation supporting this type of machine a new requirement surfaced. All tool part needed to be at least 0.2mm spaced from each other otherwise the gripper would damage the tools. Where previously it was possible to add the gaps manually, now the automatic tool selection will add a specified gap between all tool parts for this machine. The default is 0.2mm but can be set in new tool selection option "Minimum distance between tool parts". 22 P a g e

23 R a d a n R e l e a s e N o t e s R a d b e n d 2.3 Manual Tool Selection Heel tool usage The new options/status in manual tool selection shows usage of heel parts and angle measurement parts. The user can force the usage of heel tools and or 1, 2 or 3 measurement tool parts while entering the required length and apply. 23 P a g e

24 R a d a n R e l e a s e N o t e s R a d b e n d When changing to different tool profile the settings are remembered. Selecting a different profile that does not have identical part lengths will now try to obtain the required length using different parts. 24 P a g e

25 R a d a n R e l e a s e N o t e s R a d b e n d 2.4 Unfold values for Hemming Unfold values for hems are not easy to setup in bending tables in CAD systems because the process is quite different from air bending. Setback is undefined for 180 degree hem bends and neutral axis values can t be extrapolated for (very) small radii. In Radbend 2016 you can setup unfold values based on values found in practice but independent of specific designed radii. Below is a typical entry for a hemming cad4cam value. The input is verified and messages and graphical tooltips will guide you to a correct setup. 25 P a g e
