3 General/System Installation Process >> SURFCAM Traditional 2018 R1 uses an updated Installation process which installs all of the required components and pre-requisites during the installation process. The installation will install: Core pre-requisites, DirectX and the SolidWorks Document Manager CLS 2018 The license manager updated for Now residing in the Surfcam installation directory and no longer a tool tray item. Solidlink for Translation support Surfcam Traditional and the Surfcam Launcher Surfcam Migration Tool NOTE: The installation is now fully contained within a single executable file included on the installation disk or download. Selecting a language will start the installation and will only affect the language of the data displayed at the time of the installation. Language specific versions of the Surfcam Traditional product are still individually distributed. For additional information regarding the installation process, please refer to the Release Notes. 4 Regen Reselect of Toolpath Geometry >> 2 Axis operations now support three modes of geometry selection for their regeneration. Regenerate Toolpath and Reselect Geometry, Regenerate Toolpath with Original Geometry and the new Regenerate Toolpath and Pre-Select Geometry For example, select an operation, Regenerate Toolpath and Pre-Select Geometry The original geometry will be preselected allowing you to select/deselect additional geometry that will be added to or removed from the operation. To remove the pre-selection, activate Deselect then press Visible. SURFCAM 2018 What s New Page 4 of 15 January 2018

5 Heads Up Display (HUD) >> Surfcam Traditional 2018 R1 introduces the inclusion of a Heads-up Display panel placing frequently used command in the display field for quicker access. The HUD is activated by checking on Heads Up Display under the Window menu item. Commands along the top, from left to right are: Swap sides Moves HUD to opposite side (left/right) Zoom All Zoom Window Hide all toolpaths Set View Commands along the top, from left to right are: Swap sides Moves HUD to opposite side (left/right) Edit Color Shading Modes Displays a slide out of Shade/Wireframe/Shade with Wire Stock Visibility (on/off toggle) SURFCAM 2018 What s New Page 5 of 15 January 2018

6 Dynamic Display Environment >> Surfcam Traditional 2018 R1 introduces the Dynamic Display Environment which is activated by checking on Dynamic Environment under the Window menu item. and will display the dynamic display window, which has three separate panes. The first pane, shown below, is the Dynamic Layering pane. This will allow the user to turn on/off layers at any time, including while you are in the middle of other commands. 7 Dynamic Display Environment >> The second pane, shown below, is the Dynamic Masking pane. This activates a special mask, Mask #6, which becomes active and allows the user to change masking parameters while within another command. You will notice Mask #6 becomes active on the main toolbar. For example, if a user wants to select only Red geometry initially then change to selecting only blue geometry during the same command selection this can be done by changing the Dynamic Mask as you proceed. 8 Dynamic Display Environment >> The third pane, shown below, is the Dynamic Display pane. This allows the user to dynamically change the display and see the effects on the screen in real-time. 9 STL Shaded Display >> Shading of STL models has been improved with an update to the Smooth STL Edges command seen in the Dynamic Display pane. This provides a more correct representation of geometry when using STL models for machining, or as Stock and Fixture. 10 Waveform 2 Axis Toolpath >> Surfcam Traditional 2018 R1 introduces the inclusion of the Waveform 2 Axis Toolpath. Specific advantages of using waveform are: Reduces cycle time Improved tool life Extends machine maintenance cycles Maintains a constant chip load Cuts deeper and faster than traditional toolpaths Excels in both hard and soft materials SURFCAM 2018 What s New Page 10 of 15 January 2018

11 Dynamic Geometry Creation >> The following commands use our new event driven interactive user which will allow users to preview geometry before it is created and change the properties of the item(s) being created. Create Pocket >> Create Pocket allow the creation of the Rectangular Pockets, Circular Pockets (Machined holes) and Slots via a simple dynamic User Interface. Optionally, once the geometry has been created, Toolpaths can be generated automatically from the generated geometry for 1 Axis Pocket, Chamfer and/or Contour.
