2 The D-250 is an advanced digital readout system for performing three axes (two linear and one angular) geometrical measurement at very high level of precision and accuracy. Its precise measurement identifies correct rejections. It reduces operator fatigue and provides faster inspection, enhancing productivity.

3 D-250 DRO has got all the basic functions like Inch/mm, Reset, Linear / Segmented error compensation and PC communication. Additionally this DRO can provide the user all geometric functions like Point, line, Circle, Arc, Distance and Angle. It also has foot switch function for faster measurement. Manufacturer will not be responsible for any damages caused due to improper handling of the Instrument or if the instructions are not followed as mentioned in the manual. 1) Place the product on a stable surface and fix the instrument to the surface as described in mounting details to avoid any damage. 2) The product is equipped with a 2.5mm jack connector for +9V adapter. 3) All connections to the D-250 should be clean and tight. Cables should be located away from moving objects and should not create tripping hazards. Cable connected to the Encoder and output ports should be shielded, should be terminated and firmly connected on both the ends.

4 4) Disconnect the instrument from electrical mains before cleaning. Use only a cloth dampened with water and mild detergent for cleaning the exterior surface. Never use abrasive cleaners, strong detergents and solvents. Soft cloth should be used for cleaning the keyboard. Unit should be free of dirt, dust and oil. 5) Only technically qualified supervisors or dealer representative should perform system configuration and setup. Operator should not attempt to alter the configuration of the instrument. Condensation can affect sensitive parts (like electronic components) of the instrument. During packing special water absorbent packets are used to protect the instrument from condensation. If such care is not taken, condensation can also lead to corrosion and can damage the instrument. The settings are password protected. Password is After entering the correct password, following options will be available: 1) X-Axis Settings 2) Y-Axis Settings 3) θ -Axis Settings 4) LCD Contrast 5) Sleep Timer 6) Restore Settings 7) Erase All Results 8) Diagnostics User can directly use numeric keys as shortcut keys to choose corresponding option in the setup menu (and its submenus) without using the up/down arrow keys.

Axis Calibration Axis calibration is required to compensate errors arising due to wear and tear in machine, inherent encoder errors, encoder misalignment etc. Each axis can be calibrated for Linear errors or Segmented errors as applicable Edit compensation User will need to edit compensation values before applying compensation. For this, Go to Setup X or Y axis Settings Edit compensation LComp / SComp Linear Error Correction (LComp): Linear error compensation can be applied, if the results of the comparison with a reference standard show a linear deviation over the whole measuring length. In this case the error can be compensated by the calculation of a single correction factor. 1.Enter display value using numeric keys and press enter. The Disp Value will be updated. Now use key to move cursor to slip value. Again enter slip (standard) value and press to update. ii. Press key to save and exit.

7 Segmented Error Correction (SComp): Segmented Linear Error Compensation (SLEC) is used when the results of the comparison with a reference standard shows non-linear error. In SLEC the entire axis travel is divided into user defined segments. The error in each segment is compensated with a single correction factor. Each correction point is measured with respect to the starting point. This starting point is usually set close to the end of the scale. This starting point can coincide with the absolute datum point or machine reference. (Refer section 6.2 for machine reference.) The standard procedure is to divide the entire axis travel in necessary number of segments and encoder travel for each segment is recorded along with the reference standard measurement. A table is prepared where reference standard measurement and encoder reading for same travel are maintained. This table will be used to feed SLEC data in DRO. D-250 can accept maximum 25 nos. of segments for each linear axis. i. Enter SLEC menu, by referring ii. Enter the slip (standard) values and the display values for each segment using numeric keys. Use and key to move cursor between display and slip value.press key to save these values. iii. Use or key to go to next or previous segment respectively. iv. When data for all segments is entered into SLEC menu, press Apply compensation Go to Setup X or Y axis Settings Apply compensation to select compensation type amongst None, LComp and SComp. Note: The user will have to perform machine reference on every power ON if SComp is selected for an axis. It is necessary to refer to the same reference mark / machine reference which is used while performing SLEC compensation Calibration procedure for θ (Angular) Axis User can enter CPR(Counts/Rotation) value directly and calibrate the θ-axis. For this go to Setup θ-axis Settings Counts/Rotation. The first option of this menu shows the current CPR set in the machine. To edit CPR directly press and edit the value. Counts Per Rotation (CPR) = Pulses Per Rotation (PPR) X 4

8 MANUAL CPR CALIBRATION If the user does not know the CPR of angular axis then he can manually calculate the CPR by the following manual calibration procedure. For manual calibration go to Setup θ- Axis Settings Counts/Rotation Calibration. Display value will show counts of respective rotation. User can reset the axis counts by pressing the key of X-axis. Rotate the angular axis for a known angle and move down to next option using cursor keys. User will enter known angle of rotation in seconds only ( 360 = seconds). Once the angle is entered, calfac will be calculated and displayed. Now,cursor will move to calfac value.user can enter calibration factor using numeric keys,if needed.after calibration press to save the calibration factor. Press to exit. Calibration factor is stored in DRO upon exit Machine Reference: Machine referencing is used when datum is not at the reference mark on the encoder but at a fixed distance from reference mark. Machine reference can be set for both linear axes (i.e. X and Y axis). The standard ABS signal from the encoder is used for referencing. Machine referencing will be used only if Segmented Linear compensation is selected. Procedure: 1. Keep the axis positioned near to the desired ABS mark of the encoder. 2. Press key in Machine Reference in the respective axis settings. Homing Message will be shown on the screen. 3. Move the encoder to pass the reference mark. The DRO will reset the axis on the reference mark. 4. Go to the machine reference position and press key. This position will act as the start position of the segments.

9 LCD Contrast Adjustment The User can adjust the LCD contrast for his convenience in display. Use or key to increase or decrease the LCD contrast Sleep Timer Adjustment The User can adjust sleep time / standby time by entering the value in minutes. The maximum sleep timer value is of 60 minutes (i.e. the DRO will go in standby / sleep mode after 60 minutes of idle DRO state). Pressing any key will bring back the DRO to its normal state Restore Settings This restores Factory settings fed into the DRO. It erases all the settings done by the user and replaces it by standard factory values. The factory settings are highlighted in the table given on Page Erase All Results All 25 results are erased from the DRO memory Diagnostics Diagnostic mode is used for verifying all Capsense key, Power LED, Encoder and Footswitch hardware functionalities. 7. Getting Started Before turning ON the DRO please ensure that all encoders are properly connected. Also ensure that the DRO is properly mounted. When you power up D-250 DRO, following startup screen is displayed. To enter into counting mode, press any key. The DRO screen is displayed as shown below MM/INCH This function allows online conversion of a display value from metric to imperial unit of measurement. Use [] key to toggle between units of measurement. The current unit is displayed in lower left corner of the LCD screen.

10 7.2. ABSOLUTE / INCREMENTAL MODE In INC mode the distances displayed are measured from incremental point (0, 0 point) and the measurements are relative to that point. In ABS mode the distances are measured from absolute datum. abs / inc status is displayed on the LCD in lower left corner. Use [] to toggle between ABS/INC mode. User s Manual P a g e 18 After switching to incremental mode, the user can reset the axis without changing the absolute datum. When switched back to Absolute Mode the original datum is intact RESET AND SET FUNCTION User can RESET or SET particular axis value. To Reset Particular Axis: Press key for respective axis and then press key. In this manner, user can set particular axis to To SET Particular Axis: User can shift the origin by setting a value to the respective axis using numeric keys. This can be done by pressing key for respective axis and enter numeric value using numeric keypad and then by confirming the entry by pressing key. Note.: Performing this operation in abs mode will alter the datum Result memory feature User can store results of measurement in memory. The result will get stored automatically at the end of measurement, when user presses key.user can store maximum 25 results.user can view stored result by pressing key. When you press key,result of last measurement will be displayed. Use or key to scroll through results. To clear all the stored results use Erase All results option in the settings menu. Result buffer view: 7.5. Print feature User can print all the results stored in memory on a RS232 printer using key. Required settings for serial port are: i. Baud rate : 9600 ii. Data bits : 8 iii. 11 7.6. Theta Axis User can view theta axis displacement by pressing in normal DRO mode. Press respective key to reset theta axis to zero. Theta axis will be in rollover mode,that means it will reset to zero after every 360 rotation DRO Software version DRO software version will be displayed when you press key in normal DRO mode. 8. Geometric Features Point Measurement A single point or series of point can be measured on the job. This is the simplest feature since only one point or series of points are to be measured. Maximum of 20 points can be probed for single measurement. When multiple points are probed in one measurement, the average of the points is displayed as the result. 1. Press key to measure a point. 2. Now move the X-Y axis near to the desired point. 3. Press to probe desired point. 4. Take more points or if sufficient points are taken press key. 5. If you wish to exit in the middle of executing, press key. Example of point result is shown below: 8.1. Line Measurement A line can be measured by selecting between 2 to 20 points. In annotation the number of probed points will go on increasing until the user presses key. To get more accurate result, it is required to probe more points over a greater distance. The Line result is calculated using best fit algorithm. Result is displayed in the form of a point which lies on line and the angle made by line with X axis. 1. Press line key to measure a line. 2. Now target a point on the line and press key.

12 3. Now in similar manner probe sufficient points to form a best fit line. And then press key. 4. If you wish to exit in the middle of executing, press key. Example of Line result is shown below Circle Measurement A circle can be measured by probing between 3 to 20 points. In order to get more accuracy it is required to probe more points on the periphery of circle. The Circle result is calculated using best fit algorithm and its form value is displayed in the result screen. Only 3 points minimum are required to measure a circle, but these should be 180 degrees spaced apart. However it is recommended that 4 points are taken equally spaced for accurate measurement. 1. Press key to measure a circle. 2. Now move X-Y axis and press key at desired point. 3. Now in similar manner probe sufficient points to form a best fit circle and then press key. 4. If you wish to exit in the middle of executing, press key Distance Measurement Using this feature distance between two points can be measured. 1. Press key to measure distance between two points. 2. Now move X-Y axis and press key at desired point 3. Now target the second point. And then press key. The distance between these two points will be displayed in the result screen. 4. If you wish to exit in the middle of executing, press key. Example of distance result is shown below Angle Measurement Angles can be measured by probing points on two lines. In this mode the DRO automatically prompts the user to measure 1st line and the 2nd line. Each line can be measured by probing between 2 to 20 points. Accuracy of this measurement is increased if

13 more number of points is being probed over greater distances. D-250 User s Manual P a g e 23 After probing both the lines the angle between them is determined by using best fit algorithm. 1. Press key to measure angle. Probe Line 1 message will be displayed. 2. Now measure 1st line by probing the required point and press key. 3. Now similarly probe more points. And then press key to end probing line 1. Probe Line 2 message will be displayed. 4. Similarly probe line 2 and press key. The angle result screen will be displayed. 5. If you wish to exit in the middle of executing, press key Skewing the Job During measurement of any part for its dimensions, it is necessary to perfectly align the part on the co-ordinate measuring system. Any misalignment of part will result in inaccurate measurements. The part to be measured cannot be aligned exactly with co-ordinate measuring system of machine. Therefore it is necessary to skew the Job prior to measurement. The skew function converts machine co-ordinates to part co-ordinates by electronically compensating for part misalignment.
