1 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-1 Start Adobe Flash Click on Create New>ActionScript 3 Click on File>Save. Open your PlantsVersusZombies01 folder. Name the file Lesson02-your name Click on the New Layer button 5 times.

2 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-2 Rename the layers as seen below. Modify Stage Size Click on Modify>Document. Set the size to 800 by 800 pixels. Create & Name Layers Lock all the layers except Background. Click on the Background layer. Draw a large colored rectangle as the background.

3 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-3 Extend Background Layer Click on the first frame in the Background layer. With your left hand press down on the Alt key, keep pressing on the Alt key, with your right hand drag the key frame across to frame 60. Release the mouse. Check that you have two black key frames as seen below. Create Guides Lock all the layers except Guides. Click on the Guides layer. Click on View>Rulers Click on Rulers if this item is not ticked. Check that you can see the ruler.

4 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-4 Place the mouse pointer on the ruler. Press down on the left mouse button, drag down the screen till you reach 250. Release the mouse once you are at 250 on the vertical ruler. Place the mouse pointer on the ruler. Press down on the left mouse button, drag down the screen till you reach 500. Release the mouse once you are at 500 on the vertical ruler.

5 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-5 Repeat this at 750 on the vertical ruler. You should have 3 horizontal rulers at 250, 500 and 750. Click on the Text Tool. Check that you are using the unlocked Guides layer. Position the play head at frame 1.

6 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-6 Type the following number sequence using a 24 point font. Copy and paste this number sequence as seen below. Extend the Guides layer to frame 60. Check that you have a key frame in frames 1 and 60.

7 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-7 Lock and unlock the layers as seen below. Click on the Zombie 1 layer. Put the play head at frame 1. Create 5 Blank Key Frames Click on Insert>Timeline>Blank Keyframe four (4) times. The play head is now at the fifth frame. Check that the Zombie 1 layer has five blank key frames. Drag the play head back to frame 1.

8 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-8 Import Images to Library Click on File>Import>Import to Library. Open your PlantsVersusZombies01>Images folder. Select images 01 to 05. Click on No if asked to import the images as a sequence. View Library Click on Window. Click on Library IF this item has no tick or check mark.

9 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-9 Check that you can see your images in the library. Click on image 01. Position zombie 01 at the edge of the stage. Position the head under the number 1. Position the feet on the guide line. Check that there is a key frame in frame 1 for Zombie 1. Position the play head at frame 2.

10 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-10 Click on Zombie 02 in the library. Position zombie 02 as seen below. Check that you have a second key frame. Position the play head at frame3.

11 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-11 On your own insert zombies 3, 4 and 5 in to frames 3, 4 and 5. The Zombie 1 layer should now have 5 key frames.

12 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-12 Insert 5 Blank Keyframes Position the play head at frame 6. Click on Insert>Timeline>Blank Keyframe 5 times. The play head is now at the fifth frame. Check that the Zombie 1 layer has five blank key frames. Drag the play head back to frame 6.

13 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-13 Drag Zombie 01 to the location as seen below. Drag Zombies 2 to 5 to the following positions. Remember to put each zombie in separate frames.

14 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-14 Check that you have 10 key frames in the Zombie 1 layer. Animation Test Click on File>Save. Press down on the Control key, keep pressing on the Control key and tap the Enter key once. The animation is playing at 24 frames or images per second. Your 10 frame animation plays in less than half a second at that speed. Click on the Close button. Click on Modify>Document. Set the frame rate to 4 images per second.

15 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-15 Click on File>Save. Press down on the Control key, keep pressing on the Control key and tap the Enter key once. The animation is now playing at 4 frames or images per second. Your 10 frame animation plays for 2 and a half seconds at that speed. Click on the Close button. Animate Zombie 02 Lock and unlock layers as seen below. Put the play head at frame 5. Click on Insert>Timeline>Blank Keyframe 5 times.

16 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-16 Check that the Zombie 2 layer has five blank key frames. Drag the play head back to frame 5. Drag image 01 to the position as seen below. Drag the play head to frame 6.

17 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-17 Drag image 02 to the position as seen below. Position images 03, 04 and 05 in the other blank key frames.

18 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-18 Check that Put the play head at frame 10. Check that you have all the Zombie 2 keyframes. Click on Insert>Timeline>Blank Keyframe 5 times. Check that you have 5 blank keyframes. Position the play head at frame 10.

19 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-19 Drag image 01 to the indicated position. Position images 02, 03, 04 and 05 in the other blank key frames.

20 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-20 Check that you have the following key frames. Copying Frames Hold the shift key and click on all the Zombie 02 key frames. Right click and click on Copy Frames/ Click on frame 15. Right click and click on Paste Frames.

21 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-21 Check that you have the pasted frames. Click on Frame 25. Paste in another copy of these frames. Keep pasting frames until you reach frame 54. Lock and unlock the layers as seen below. Click on the Zombie 01 layer. Copy and paste the frames as seen below.

22 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-22 Test Animation. Click on File>Save. Press down on the Control key, keep pressing on the Control key and tap the Enter key once. The animation is now playing at 4 frames or images per second. Your 10 frame animation plays for 2 and a half seconds at that speed. Click on the Close button. Zombie 02 Lock and unlock the layers as seen below. Click on the Zombie 03 layer.

23 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-23 Position the play head at frame 3. Click on Insert>Timeline>Blank Keyframe 5 times. Position the play head at frame 3. Drag image 01 to the position as seen below.

25 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-25 Check that you have 5 zombie 03 key frames. Copy and paste these frames as seen below. Test Animation. Click on File>Save. Press down on the Control key, keep pressing on the Control key and tap the Enter key once. All three zombies should now be walking across the stage. Click on the Close button.

26 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-26 Finishing Touches Lock and unlock the layers as seen below. Click on the Guides layer. Delete the number guides. Lock and unlock the layers as seen below. Click on the Top Layer.

27 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-27 Put the play head at frame 52. Click on Insert>Timeline>Blank Keyframe. Draw a big colored rectangle to cover the stage. Type some words to acknowledge the animation creator.

28 Lesson 2A Plants Versus Zombies01 Page 2A-28 Copy this frame in to frame 60. Test Animation. Click on File>Save. Type a Control-End to view the animation. All three zombies should now be walking across the stage. Your final image should be your acknowledgement image.
