1 STEP 1: open your class-01 Project file _ go to Level 1 _ select grid line 1 _ type CO (copy) _ repeat for grid line 3 as shown in image 1 Architectural Column STEP 2: from the Ribbon under the Home tab click on the lower half of the Column button _ click on Architectural Column create 2 new grid lines place column STEP 3: place the column at the Intersection of the new grid lines STEP 4: move the new grid lines to verify that the column moves with grid

2 STEP 5: from the Project Browser _ double click on East STEP 6: select the Column _ type PR (properties) _ set the Top Level: Level 2 _ set the Top Offset: 0-0 STEP 7: from the Ribbon click on Attach Top/ Base _ select the Level 2 floor slab _ (column top should align to the bottom of the floor slab) Column Family STEP 8: from the big R _ scroll over New _ click on Family 5 7 select the column 6 8 2

3 STEP 9: select Column from the list of templates _ click on Open STEP 10: from the Ribbon click on Extrusion _ from the Ribbon under the Draw panel click on Rectangle STEP 11: draw a rectangle as shown in image 11 (snap to the intersections of the reference planes provided in the template) STEP 12: Lock all 4 Constraints 9 11 click on each lock click on rectangle

4 click to finish click on lock STEP 13: from the Ribbon click on the Check to finish the extrusion _ from the Project Browser _ double click on Back STEP 14: drag the top Shape Handle up to the Upper Ref Level STEP 15: click on the Lock to constrain STEP 16: from the Project Browser _ double click on Lower Ref. Level Save the Column Family file in your Class-02 folder as Column with Base.rfa drag the shape handle up to upper ref level

5 Family Types 17 STEP 17: from the Ribbon click on Family Types STEP 18: from the Family Types window click on New _ name the Family Type: 2 x2 _ click OK STEP 19: from the Family Types window click on New _ name the Family Type: 1 x1 _ click OK STEP 20: set the Width & Depth = 1 0 _ click OK

6 Reference Plane STEP 21: from the Ribbon under the Home tab click on: Reference Plane (RP) _ draw a Reference Plane as shown in image 21 STEP 22: set the lower dimension = 2 23 STEP 23: type PR (properties) _ name it: Front Base STEP 24: from the Ribbon click on Pick Mirror Axis _ select the Center horizontal reference plane as shown in image 24 draw a reference plane 21 set dimension = 2 pick mirror axis

7 STEP 25: name the Reference Plane: Back Base STEP 26: using the CTRL key select both reference planes _ from the Ribbon click on Draw Mirror Axis _ draw 45 mirror axis as shown in image STEP 27: name the reference planes Base Left & Base Right STEP 28: from the Ribbon click on Extrusion _ from the Ribbon under the Draw panel click on Rectangle draw mirror axis 28 click on rectangle 7

8 click to finish STEP 29: draw a rectangle as shown in image 29 (snap to the intersections of the reference planes) STEP 30: Lock all 4 Constraints STEP 31: from the Ribbon click on the Check to finish the extrusion _ from the Project Browser _ double click on Back STEP 32: select the first column _ using the bottom Shape Handle drag it to the top of the new column click on each lock align

9 STEP 33: click on the Lock STEP 34: from the Project Browser _ double click on Lower Ref. Level lock STEP 35: from the Ribbon under the Annotate tab click on Aligned (DI) 35 STEP 36: dimension the 2 horizontal base reference planes as shown in image 36 _ Lock it _ press ESC twice

10 Parameter STEP 37: select the dimension _ from the Options Bar click on the Label pull down menu _ select <Add parameter...> 37 STEP 38: Name it: Base Depth _ Group parameter under: Dimensions _ click OK STEP 39: re-lock the dimension 39 STEP 40: from the Ribbon under the Annotate tab click on Aligned (DI) _ dimension the horizontal base reference planes as shown in image 40 _ click on the EQ

11 STEP 41: repeat steps to create a Base Width Parameter as shown in image 41 STEP 42: Ctrl+S (save) _ from the Ribbon click on Load Into Project STEP 43: press ESC _ select the existing column _ change Family type to: Column with Base 1 x1 STEP 44: go to the 3D View _ export the image (see steps 29 & 30 of the class-01 tutorial) Homework Assignment 02: Using the Class-02 tutorial: Create your own Parametric Column (note: it should not be square or rectangular) Create one 800 w x 600 h pixel jpeg that has: the in-class jpeg your homework jpeg short written description of the homework Arch 508 Your Name Class-02 Before next class upload the 800 x 600 JPEG to your web page
