2 CREATIVE INDUSTRIES EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMME BACKGROUND One promising development coming out of KingstOOn Animation Conference and Film Festival (2016), (2016) is a partnership with an international animation studio to provide training and employment opportunities for Jamaican animators. Carlos Arguello ( of Studio C ( ), who is known for his work on Armageddon, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Devils Advocate, Fast and Furious, has secured a large contract cont for which there will be need to contract 600 seats to do outsourced work. Carlos established CA Foundation, as a non non-profit profit organization that creates opportunities for personal and professional development through education, training, the promotion of cu culture and a creative economy. Carlos created the Foundation to be able to work with governments, educational systems, universities, and other organizations on various creative industries projects. CA Foundation has partnered with numerous organizations in Latin America, and now wishes to expand to the Caribbean, by offering an education programme in Jamaica, starting in February Consequently the collaboration between Studio C and CA Foundation will afford participants in this programme, the opportunity of finding employment within the animation industry upon completion of the programme in November 2017.

4 OVERVIEW The Creative Industries Education and Employment Programme will be strategically executed in two phases: 1. Phase 1: An education/training aspect that will be approximately 9 months in length, focusing on specializing in predetermined processes of the production chain used in Hollywood to produce Long Format 3D Animated Films. 2. Phase 2: After the training, CA Foundation will select (based on competencies acquired) animators to work on full length feature films. Details of the employment phase are not yet available. The proposed programme seeks to address a critical issue that exists in Jamaica: trained animators exiting training institutions face significant difficulty entering the job market due to lack of experience in a real production environment. Phase 2 of this initiative will require a physical facility where students can refine their skills in a real production work setting, and where they will hone the skills necessary to meet high expectations that are required by the industry. At the same time, the programme will be an avenue for job creation, and earning much needed foreign exchange.

DESIGN AND MODELING 3D environments: This course aims to train specialists holistically with extensive knowledge of advanced digital environments and tools in 3D space, allowing them to belong to a future productive chain of animated feature films. The student will be able to obtain the necessary technological skills to implement specialized projects in animated features. Student Participant Profile: The aspiring student participant should be a person with a strong interest in the areas of Design, Sculpture, Environments, Visual Arts, the creating of digital spaces, 3D Design and Production environments. 2. MODEL AND CHARACTER RIGGING:

7 In this course we will learn the techniques used to model characters, create the skeletal system, controls and the link with geometry to generate the structure of animation. The student will learn about the concepts needed to create a good character using software for 3D modeling, reaching the necessary knowledge to model a character, and then implement a rig to be part of a production. Student Participant Profile: The applicant to this course must be a person with interests in sculpture, anatomy, shape and movement of characters. The applicant must be interested in Digital Arts and want to expand their knowledge. 3. ANIMATION AND RIGGING SPECIALIZED IN FACE: The course Animation and Rigging specialized in face explores how anatomy, expression and emotion are intertwined, and how the animator can simulate emotion in the face of a character. It will address all the details: gestures that convey emotions, the thinking character, micro expressions, eye movements and voice synchronization, among others. Student Participant Profile: The applicant to this course should be a person with interests in entertainment, communication through expression and communication through gestures. 4. 3D CHARACTER ANIMATION: The purpose of this course is to learn a set of techniques and methods that can generate 3D animation quality animations for characters. It aims for the creation of a character to act convincingly and then be used in a production of an animated featured film.

8 Student Participant Profile: People with basic knowledge of digital animation programs, Animation lovers, 3D, models and video games. Also, interested in graphics, illustrators or anyone interested in learning how to animate a character itself. Students interested in giving life to objects and interested in becoming characters designers. 5. VISUALS FOR ANIMATED FILM: In this course you will learn to create the effects that accompany the animated feature films through particle simulations and other methods to create fluid and other items to incorporate into 3D environments and characters, such as clouds, fire, smoke, wind. 11 Employment Phase of the Intervention After completion of Training phase, Studio C will select (based on competencies acquired) animators to work on the full length feature films. Details of the Employment phase are not yet available, but will certainly require identification/establishment of a work space with the requisite number of seats and available on a 24/7 basis.
