1 Norton Personal Firewall 2006 I. How to modify Norton Personal Firewall to prompt you for applications attempting to access your network and the internet. 1) Right-click the Norton Status icon (in the system tray, next to the clock), select Alert Options. Show Firewall Alerts should be checked, if not, select it. 2) Right-click the Norton icon (in the system tray, next to the clock), then select Open Norton Personal Firewall. 3) Select Norton Internet Security from the navigation menu on the left side of the screen. 4) Select Personal Firewall.

2 5) Select the Configure button.

3 6) Select the Advanced tab. 7) Select the General button.

4 8) Locate any custom or user defined rules in the list.

5 9) Uncheck the check box next to any custom or user defined rules. 10) Select the OK button.

6 11) Select the Secondary button.

7 12) Uncheck the check box next to the secondary rules. 13) Select the OK button.

8 Note: Temporarily disabling custom or user defined rules should allow you to be prompted again when new applications are started. You should not have to disable the standard or default rules. Once you have configured your firewall to allow Peachtree Accounting to run on your network, it is recommended that you re-enable your custom or user defined rules. For more information about the standard or default rules, please see your firewall user s guide or the vendor s website. 14) Close the Norton Internet Security 2006 application. 15) Start the Peachtree Accounting program. If you are prompted to allow Peachtree to have access, select Always allow connections from this program on all ports and click the OK button. You may have to repeat this to allow access for other applications and components used by Peachtree Software and its database, Pervasive Software. How to modify Norton Personal Firewall to allow Peachtree Accounting to access your network and the internet. 1) Right-click the Norton icon (in the system tray, next to the clock), then select Open Norton Personal Firewall. 2) Select Norton Internet Security from the navigation menu on the left side of the screen. 3) Select Personal Firewall.

10 4) Select the Configure button.

11 5) Select the Programs tab. 6) Select the Add button.

12 7) Browse to the installation location of Peachtree Software. 8) Select the Peachw.exe file and select the Open button.

13 9) Select Permit and select the OK button. 10) Peachtree Accounting (peachw.exe) should now be available in the list.

14 11) Repeat steps 1 10 for other applications and components used by Peachtree Software and its database, Pervasive Software. How to modify Norton Personal Firewall to allow Peachtree Accounting to access your network and the internet once Peachtree has been denied access. 1) Right-click the Norton icon (in the system tray, next to the clock), then select Open Norton Personal Firewall.

15 2) Select Norton Internet Security from the navigation menu on the left side of the screen. 3) Select Personal Firewall.

16 4) Select the Configure button. 5) Select the Programs tab.

17 6) Select Peachtree Accounting from the list of programs.

18 7) Select the Modify button.

19 8) Select Permit and select the OK button.

20 9) Repeat steps 1 8 for other applications and components used by Peachtree Software and its database, Pervasive Software.
