2 Licensing ACU Staff are entitled to install Sophos Endpoint Security and Control for Windows (previously known as Sophos Anti-Virus) at home on a single computer, free of charge, for the purposes of working on ACU related work. Staff who install the product must remove this from their home computer should they no longer be an employee of ACU. Home use is governed by the terms of the Sophos End-User License Agreement for Consumers Apple Mac Users Sophos does not provide a Home Use product for Mac through Enterprise Agreements. In place of this, Sophos provides a free Home Edition Mac version of the product that is available to the public from the Sophos website. Free Tools There are also a number of other free tools available from the Sophos website Support ACU is unable to provide technical support for employees regarding the installation of Sophos Home Use editions. This also applies to the troubleshooting of any issues arising from the use of Sophos Home Use editions. ACU IT recommends staff approach the installation of any new applications on home computers with the usual precautions such as: 1. Backing up data first to, for example, an external hard drive 2. Ensuring you enable system restore points (see Installation Instructions for Windows PC Sophos Endpoint Security and Control for Windows is available to ACU staff for use on computers belonging to ACU. This is also available to staff for one personal home computer (for as long as they are an ACU employee).

3 This is a licensed software product. You will receive a prompt for your usual ACU logon credentials before you are able to download this software for personal use. Please note that portable computers, belonging to ACU, are required to join the ACU network domain. Therefore, managing deployment of Sophos Endpoint Security and Control for Windows for these machines takes place automatically by centralised IT processes. Before installing Sophos for Windows Make sure that your computer is running a recommended version of Windows. i.e. Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 These instructions specifically refer to Windows 7, although Sophos can be installed on Windows 8 or 8.1 Remove any other anti-virus software installed on your machine (please see the following steps on the next page).

After you have run the file, you will see a dialog box with a progress bar as the files extract themselves. This may take a couple of minutes.

9 The installation screen will automatically close once the files have installed successfully. The Sophos icon in the task bar should be visible and blue, and any progress boxes will close indicating that the update is complete. Sophos updates automatically every hour from this point on. You won't see the downloading screen during these automatic updates. Once installed Sophos should automatically check files that you open for viruses. To find out when the program last updated itself, hover your mouse over the Sophos icon in the task bar and you should see a small pop-up window showing the date and time of the last update: When the program is in the process of updating itself you the pop-up window will look a little different. If Sophos finds new updates it will automatically download and install them.

10 If you see a red circle with a white cross superimposed on the blue and white shield (see below), the most recent update failed. This will always happen (and is normal) if Sophos tries to update while your computer is disconnected from the Internet. Support and further information As mentioned above ACU is unable to provide technical support for employees regarding the installation of Sophos Home Use editions. However, Sophos provide some user guides which you may wish to consult to assist with any troubleshooting.
