How to Use Aimetis with Hikvision Devices? (V1.0.0)

1. Overview This paper intends to help you use/operate Hikvision devices with Aimetis software. The supported functions are as follows: Live View, Playback, Record(video, audio), PTZ Control, PTZ Tour, Alarm Please refer to Appendix for supported hardware integration list. 1.1 About Aimetis Aimetis is a Canadian-based company, headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario. An installation of Aimetis Symphony has two components: server software and client software. Each physical computer can have multiple Symphony software licenses: License Type Description Standard License Contains all core video management features. Professional License Contains all core features of the Standard License plus advanced functionality. This license type is used in large deployments. Enterprise License Building on the functionality found in Professional, video analytics can be added on a per camera basis which augments the accuracy of alarm monitoring and includes business intelligence reporting such as people counting. Note: Licenses can be mixed per physical server, allowing Standard, Pro, and Enterprise to be used per single server. However, there is no advantage of having Standard and Professional licenses mixed on the same server since advanced VMS features will be available only if all licenses are Professional or higher. 1.2 Current test environment The current testing version is v For License:

For Server: Requirements Any Intel CPU or any AMD CPU that supports SSE2(eg:Opteron) 500M of free disk space At least 1G of RAM Current test environment Intel(R) Core(TM)i5-3320M 50G 4G For Client: Requirements 200M of free disk space 2GHz or faster processor At least 1G of RAM Current test environment 50G 2.6GHz 3G 2. 4 2.2 Timeline The Timeline is a powerful way to view everything that has happened in a day at a glance. The Timeline is integrated in the main view of Symphony Client. If you click anywhere on the Timeline, a still image for that time will appear in the main view. Timeline color code Color Green Yellow-orange Red Gray White Black Purple circle Color code No relevant foreground activity was detected. Indicates activity. A Rule was broken that resulted in an alarm being raised. By default, rules are summarized on the Timeline using a red square. You can customize how rules are displayed on the Timeline from the Alarms tab in the Symphony Client Settings dialog box. Poor video quality. Access granted. Access denied. Always indicates the Timeline position for what is

Pink horizontal bar currently being viewed in the Video Panel. Indicates that camera is not in the home position. Visible only when camera set up with auto tracking (PT090/PT091 video analytic 2.3 Address Bar The address bar contains a Symphony link to the last selected video position. 2.4 Alarm Log View->Alarm Log In Advanced Mode, the Alarm Log panel provides detailed information: camera view, alarm details, thumbnails of alarms.

3. Basic Functions 3.1 Adding and Removing Cameras Server->Configuration->Devices->New, then complete the following information and click ok, a device will be added. 1. In the Network tab, enter an appropriate and easily identifiable name for the camera. 2. Input the IP address and SDK port. 3. Select the Manufacture Hikvision. 4. Any device that requires access to resources available only on a single server (for example, COM port, special SDK or drivers) is unmovable. All others are typically movable. 3.2 Live View Click to Live View mode. The Override label beside a camera indicates that recording on the camera has been stopped. Specifically, the Record Video setting in the camera configuration was changed by a user by right-clicking in the Camera Tree and selecting Stop Recording. The Override label reminds the user to right-click and select Resume Record mode when necessary.

3.2.1 Camera View Layout Camera View layout allows you to view multiple camera views at the same time. You can configure Symphony to display 1 to 25 cameras at once To save currently configured camera view 1. Click the Save icon in the Toolbar. The Save As dialog opens.

2. Select the New View option and enter a name for the view in the adjacent field 3. Click OK to save the camera view. 4. From the View menu, select Load Camera View Layout, and select a named view. 3.3PTZ PTZ control View->PTZ Controls. Then the PTZ controls interface will display in the right pane PTZ Tour 1. In the Camera Tree, right-click on a PTZ camera. From the context menu, select Camera Tour. The Camera Tour dialog box opens.

2. Using the PTZ Controls or Camera Live View, move the camera to where you want the Home position, and then click Add Current Live View PTZ Location to the List. This will be location 1 or Home. 3. Using the PTZ Controls or Camera Live View, move the camera to where you want the second position, and then click Add Current Live View PTZ Location to the List. This will be Location Using the PTZ Controls or Camera Live View, move the camera to each location you need for a tour, clicking Add Current Live View PTZ Location to the List each time. You can set up 8 locations (stops) on the camera tour. 5. For each location, you can define the amount of time in seconds that the camera pauses in that location by modifying the amount in seconds. 6. Click Set Schedule for this Tour to define a schedule for when the camera tour should be active. By default, the entire date/time chart is red, indicating Active.

7. By default, the Inactive option is selected. Using your mouse, click on the date and time intervals you want the Camera Tour to be inactive (green) and click OK. 8. Click OK. 3.4 Create a Rule and configure the video engine detection capabilities Assign analytic(s) to the camera In the Server Configuration dialog box, after select one camera, click Analytics Engines tab, you can choose the engine that you want. Then go to analytics configuration to configure it. Engine License Required Description PT091 Auto PTZ Tracking Enterprise Auto PTZ tracking. VE101 Video stabilization Enterprise Camera movement compensation VE101 engine. For an outdoor surveillance camera that is moderately shaken (such as when attached to a pole on a windy day). No configuration required. VE101 has a high CPU load. To reduce CPU and storage utilization, no output of the stabilized video feed will be available stabilization is run live in memory frames are passed to the other analytics and then discarded. VE130 Simple Motion Detection Standard Detects simple motion. Used indoors. Does not classify objects. Does not provide object segmentation capability (which is required for object counting). VE140 Video Input Error Standard Detects video signal loss.

VE141 Camera Tampering Standard Detects if camera s field of view is compromised (such as spray painting the lens). VE150 Advanced Motion Tracking Enterprise Filters complex motion. Recommended for indoor and outdoor environments. Different modes of operation (for example, outdoor tracking, indoor people counting) are available depending on the environment and application. VE180 Indoor/Outdoor Enterprise Filters complex motion. People Tracking VE250 Motion Tracking Enterprise Plug and play motion tracking video engine. VE352 Left & Removed Item Detection Enterprise Detects objects left behind or removed. Can be used indoors/outdoors Event Server->Server Configuration->Rules->New 1. Select a camera to assign to a rule. 2. Select a video engine to configure from those running on camera. 3. Define what alarming attributes this rule will have, such as an alarm zone, or class of object (that is, people, vehicles). Depending on the video engine, different options will be available.

To receive real-time alarms for specific events, rules must be configured. Using the Rule Wizard, you configure the alarm capability of the analytic. Note: Rules need an analytic engine running against a camera. Rules can be set up only if some form of analytic is running against a camera. In the following example, you cannot set up any rules for Camera 2DF5284-A, because it is not running a video analytic.

3.4.3 Action In the Action screen, you can create a set of actions that will take place when an event happens. For example, in the following, a new Action name is created called Action - High Response. It may include actions such as cameras to start recording, s to be sent to specific people, a sound to be played, or even a PTZ camera to zoom on the event in question. 1. Create a meaningful descriptive name for the Action. 2. Then click on each tab to set actions. (1) Alarm tab

1. Raise Alarm check box - an alarm is registered in the Timeline and in the Alarm Log, as displayed in the following example View other cameras on alarm - Your cameras may give you various angles/views of a location. If an access alarm is raised, for instance, you may want a live view suddenly from a few cameras near that access point. Here, you select the cameras that would display video to you in case of an alarm. The result is a Video Panel automatically switches to a specific camera when an event occurs. (2) Record tab Record check box - Ensures that video is recorded from the camera, even if the default setting for the camera is No Recording as defined in the Device setup. Start recording on other cameras - required in cases an alarm I/O has been selected as the event.

You select the camera that will be associated with this alarm for the purposes of adding the event to the camera's Timeline. Important: Even if a camera has been set to Never record (in the Video tab of Device configuration), the Rules Wizard setting overrides this. The camera will record video. Tab TCP Run Program Sounds Zoom Description/Usage Opens a TCP socket to some IP & port, and sends the specified ASCII message. This is a generic way to interface with any access control system or other device. By configuring this, Symphony can execute another 3rd party program.working Directory - Must contain the path to the program\bat file. For example: C:\Program Files\Aimetis\Symphony\_bin Executable Name - Must contain the path and program of cmd (for bat files at least). For example: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe Arguments - Must contain the batch file name and the "/C" parameter. For example: /C RecordToggle.bat You can configure Symphony to play a pre-recorded sound when a Rule is broken. You can upload files to Symphony and select which sound file (such as a.wav file) to play when the current Rule is broken. This might be useful to automatically warn trespassers that the property is under surveillance. Allows you to specify actions for a dome (PTZ) camera after the current Rule Trigger is detected. By selecting the Auto-tracking check box, the camera will leave its Home Position and automatically zoom and track the object. If you select the Force a PTZ camera to a

Instructions Rule OPC SMS location check box, you must specify a pre-programmed position for the camera to move to. This is useful if you want to create an alarm Rule where the trigger is a Hardware Alarm input (I/O device selected from the list of devices on the Alarm tab). For example, perhaps a motion detector or even a fixed camera caused an alarm, you could force the PTZ camera to automatically move to its location for further investigation. This will not work if the Trigger Rule element is not region specific (such as a Cord Cut alarm). You can bind specific instructions to a Rule. This tells a monitoring agent or operator what to do in case of alarm. When an alarm occurs it appears in the Alarm Log of the Main Console. After an alarm occurs, one of the Actions can be set to automatically enable or disable other Rules. Symphony can interact with OPC servers on alarm by configuring this tab. Symphony can send messages via SMS as a result of the alarm by configuring the COM Port, Baud Rate and adding a Phone Number as required. 3.5 Record Server->Configuration->Devices->New, and select the device you want to configure. Click the Video tab.

3.5.1 Record video 1. Select a condition from the Record video drop-down list. 2. By default, video is recorded 15 seconds before and after an event. You can change them by entering different values in seconds. 3. Click Set Schedule. The Schedule dialog box opens. 4. By default, the Do not record option is selected. Using your mouse, click on the date and time intervals you do NOT want video recorded (green) and click OK. Note: You can set recording schedules to per minute ranges. Click on at least two squares in one column. Hover your mouse over the first square or the last square in the column (earliest or latest hour interval). Arrow range buttons appear. Click the arrows to change times to per minute ranges.

Conditions under which video is recorded Options Available for Symphony records video... Always All video cameras For this specific camera Schedule and Motion Detected When motion detection video engine also On motion but only during the time period you specify. by PC selected Tracked Motion Detected by PC When motion detection video engine also selected If objects are tracked through the scene (for example, a person or vehicle moving through the scene is tracked as motion, but moving tree branches should not be tracked and therefore video would not be recorded) Pixel Changes Detected by PC When motion detection video engine also selected Whenever pixel changes are detected. Note: A tree moving in a heavy wind could cause pixel changes and therefore cause Symphony to record video Motion Detected Cameras which support Using motion detection by Camera Motion Detection capabilities inside the network camera itself, and not using a video analytic engine from

Symphony (quality of motion detection similar to Pixel Changes) Schedule & Motion Detected by Camera Cameras which support Motion Detection Records if motion detected during a specific time interval as defined by user. Using motion detection capabilities inside the network camera itself, and not using a video analytic engine from Symphony Never All video cameras Never records video unless specified to be recorded in a Rule Record audio 1. Select the device you want to configure, click Network and tick Enable Audio input. 2. Click Video and select the way to record audio.

Option Never Same as video Rule Broken Symphony records audio... Never records audio unless specified to be recorded in a Rule Records audio based on the video record settings Records audio only when an alarm is triggered 3.6 Playback If Timeline or Alarm Log is clicked, video playback mode begins.

Click the speaker to choose whether to play audio. 3.7 Storage Storage of video Server->Configuration->Storage. Storage Minimum Disk Space Minimum Disk Percentage Availability Limit the number of days video is stored Default max storage days (global setting) Task Specify the minimum amount of free disk space on the hard disk. Symphony starts deleting video as soon as free disk space is below this setting. Specify a percentage of free disk space to maintain. Allows you to define whether the second storage path is for failover or for redundant mode.(please refer to Aimetis s Administration guide for more information) Specify a global setting (Default max storage days field) or Max Storage Days for each camera in the Footage Storage section. If the Limit the number of days video is stored option is enabled, specify the default value in days when video is over written, even if extra hard disk space exists.

Keep metadata longer Default metadata storage days Default Path Specify that metadata can be stored longer than video. This is useful in order to maintain reporting capability. Specify how long metadata will be stored. The default path location where video will be recorded is displayed (as defined at installation). You can adjust the path for an individual camera under the Storage Path column in the camera table. Note: If the Storage Path per Camera ID/Name is blank, the settings in the Default max storage days and Default path fields will be used. Symphony can be forced to read from a specific path by prefixing the path with an *. Example: "c:\data;*d:\data" means write to both paths and always read from d:\data Storage of configuration Server->Settings. The Symphony Client Settings dialog box opens. 1. Click the Global tab. 2. Select the Custom path to farm registration check box. 3. In the next field enter the path on the network where the registration information will be stored for all roaming users. Note: This is a global setting. All users that login to this Client will use this setting. Use the %WINUSER% variable when configuring this path so that each user has a unique path where the farm registration is stored. The user must have Windows modify rights to this folder. This is set only once on each Client machine.

4 FAQ (1) Failed to complete necessary schema modifications. This should be addressed before continuing. Answer: This problem is common in the second time Aimetis server installation in the same computer. The solution to this problem: a. Click Setup Wizard to open Symphony Setup interface. b. In the Farm Configuration tab, change the name of database aira to another name, such as aira1, aira2. c. Apply the setup after finish other configuration. (2) One or more services failed to start. Answer: Please make sure to close Aimetis client before you finish Setup Wizard.
