2 What are a health data standards? An informatic health data standard is a computer protocol which allows health information to extracted from one system and transported to another enabling interoperability. There are two broad categories, syntactic and semantic Syntactic standards such as HL7 describe what the information is but not what it means. These standards function like a grammar for inter-system communication. Semantic standards such as LOINC describe the meaning of the information.
