US Ignite is working with the National Science Foundation and other public agencies to convene an advanced wireless industry consortium to advance development of next-generation wireless technologies and services NSF committing $50 million over the next 5 years, as part of a total $85 million investment by NSF and private-sector entities, to design and build four city-scale advanced wireless testing platforms, beginning in FY NSF is also announcing plans to invest $350 million over the next 7 years in fundamental research on advanced wireless technology projects. More than twenty private-sector companies and associations in the U.S. wireless industry have cumulatively pledged more than $35 million in cash and in-kind support to the design, development, deployment, and ongoing operations of these testing platforms FCC is moving fast to establish US leadership in 5G by opening up new spectrum for Licensed (28,37, 39 GHz), Unlicensed (64-71GHz), and Shared ( GHz) use.
