Things you should know before you go Before you take off, there are three essential steps to make sure you are ready to roam. Write down your voic PIN To check your voic while roaming, you will need to know your voic PIN even if you don t use it in New Zealand. To check your PIN: 1. Dial # 00 (from within New Zealand), or access your voic as normal. 2. Select option Select option 2 you will hear your PIN. 4. Exit the menu or choose a new PIN. Check the pricing Roam the world with a Telecom SIM card and pay just one price for any country or group of countries in a particular zone, regardless of what time of day you call or text, or what network you re on. To check out the roaming charges for the country or countries you are travelling to visit telecomroaming.co.nz Your phone book contacts Transferring your phone book contacts is not a service available on this model of loan phone. We recommend taking your usual mobile phone with you so you can access your contacts. To view the roaming terms and conditions before you go, visit telecomroaming.co.nz Things you should know once you arrive How to recharge your loan phone The charging unit that comes with your loan phone is designed for use in New Zealand and Australia. If you re travelling to other countries, you ll need to use an adaptor. You can buy a travel adapter from most electrical stores or from a duty free shop at international airports. How Telecom WorldMode global roaming coverage works Telecom utilises many international network carriers through its roaming partner alliance to provide the WorldMode Global Roaming service. As a result your coverage and call clarity may vary between countries and networks. Page 1 of 5

2 What charges to expect Charges for the calls you make will depend on what country you travel to and what type of call you make. For the latest pricing information, go to telecomroaming.co.nz Here s how it works: Local/national: When you call locally or nationally in the country you are in, the local or national call rates of that country will apply. International calls back to New Zealand: The international rate to call back to New Zealand will apply. Other International calls: International rates will apply. Voic message retrieval: International rate to call back to New Zealand will apply. Received calls: Inbound call charges will apply. Text: To send a text message, you ll be charged the applicable rate from the country you are in. There are no charges for receiving a text message. Other charges: 0800/1800 calls and other numbers such as operator assistance will incur local call charges. Premium 0900 type numbers may also incur local call charges. How to insert or remove your Telecom SIM Card You should have been given your loan phone with the Telecom SIM card already inside. However, if you need to take it out and reinsert it for any reason, here s what to do: 1. Remove back plate cover. 2. Remove battery. 3. Insert or remove the Telecom SIM card by depressing the tab and sliding in or out. (NOTE: Make sure that the gold-coloured contacts on the SIM card are face down.) 4. Insert battery. 5. Replace back cover plate. 6. Turn phone on. NOTE: Your loan phones can only recognise the SIM card supplied by Telecom. What to do when you return to New Zealand Returning your loan phone Please return the loan phone to us in the courier pack provided within 7 days of returning to New Zealand. If the phone is lost, stolen or not returned, your Telecom account will be debited with the replacement cost of the phone and accessories. Billing All charges will be billed to your Telecom account. There may be some delay in charges appearing while the information is processed from overseas telecommunications companies. In some cases the billing delay could be up to 12 weeks. Page 2 of 5

3 How to use your Loan Phone If you ve been given a Nokia loan phone, here s how to use it once you get to your destination. How to select a network Once you arrive at your destination and switch on your loan phone, you ll need to select a local network to roam on. To do this, simply: 1. Press Menu. 3. Scroll to Phone and Select. 4. Scroll to Operator Selection and Select. 5. Scroll to Manual and Select. This will display Searching and then will come up with a list of available networks. 6. Scroll through the list of network providers. 7. Choose a carrier and press Select. If this doesn t work the first time, you ll need to repeat the process and select another network provider from the list. How to make a call To make a local or national call in the country you are in, simply dial the area code and the phone number then press the Call key. How to make an international call 1. Press the * key twice until the + character appears. 2. Enter the country code for the country you want to call (e.g. 64 for NZ). 3. Then enter the area code minus the initial zero. 4. Enter the local number. 5. Press the Call key. For example, to call the International Roaming Helpdesk press the * key twice until the + character appears then enter (it would appear like this on the screen ) and then press the Call key. How to retrieve your Voic Messages 1. Press the * key twice until the + character appears. 2. Then dial Enter your mailbox number (this is your mobile number minus the initial 0). 4. Enter your PIN (see Before you go for details). 5. Enter # - this will take you to the main menu. NOTE: You ll be charged for an international call back to New Zealand when you check your voic while roaming. How to send a text message 1. Select Menu, then Messaging and Create Message. 2. Select Text Message. 3. Enter the text you would like to send. 4. Select Send. 5. Scroll to phone number and select. 6. Enter the mobile number and select OK. Remember if you are sending an international text other than to New Zealand it will need to be in international format e.g. to France NOTE: Texts sent while roaming should be limited to 125 characters or else they will be split and sent as two texts. If this occurs you will be charged for each text. Page 3 of 5

4 How to dial a previously called number 1. From the standby screen press the Call key for a list of previously called numbers. 2. Use the scroll key to find the number and press the Call key to call. How to make a call from your phone book 1. Press the Scroll Down key. 2. Scroll through your contacts to find the number you want. 3. Press the Call key. How to adjust the ringer volume 1. Use + or - on left side of phone. 2. Press Menu. 3. Scroll to Settings and Select. 4. Scroll to Tones and Select. 5. Scroll to Ringing Volume and Select. 6. The Scroll key allows you to increase (up) and decrease (down) the volume levels. How to activate vibrate alert 1. Press Menu. 3. Scroll to Profiles and Select. 4. Choose General and Select. 5. Scroll to Personalise and Select. 6. Scroll to Vibrating alert and Select. 7. Choose ON or OFF and Select. How to save a number from a call 1. Select Menu. 2. Scroll to Log. 3. Select Received Calls. 4. Scroll to the number you wish to save. 5. Select Options. 6. Scroll to Save and Select. 7. You can also edit the number to include international dialling prefixes (e.g. +64 for New Zealand). 8. Enter the contact name and select OK. How to save a new number 1. Enter the number (including international prefixes) e.g. +64 for New Zealand. 2. Select Save. 3. Enter the contact name and select OK. How to set the time NOTE: While in another country s service area, you shouldn t need to change the time and date settings as the phone receives time information from the network. If your phone didn t receive this information automatically, simply follow the steps below. 1. Select Menu. 3. Scroll to Time and Date and Select. 4. You can choose to set the time or have the network set the time for you or you can manually input the time in Time and Date Page 4 of 5
