Focus on Value Concord OneClick for ehealth The new administration console for ehealth provides a single user interface from which multiple administrators can quickly and easily manage ehealth systems supporting Release 5.6.5, 5.7, and beyond. With Concord OneClick for ehealth, administrators can create a view of their ehealth systems and launch the view from any Web browser. OneClickEH has an intuitive, Windows-style interface and an object- and task-oriented workflow that enables you to work faster and more efficiently. From a single window, you can monitor and manage your ehealth systems, view your element hierarchy, and access administrative functions. From one ehealth console, you can quickly identify and resolve polling problems before they impact your business. OneClickEH offers you tremendous timesavings by enabling you to work simultaneously with other administrators to seamlessly manage all aspects the ehealth systems supporting your infrastructure. The Value Ultimately, Concord OneClick for ehealth will include all administrative functions supporting the ehealth Suite. The first release offers these features: World View Create a customized view of your ehealth systems and organize it any way that you like. Search for specific elements, and view all elements that you are monitoring in a hierarchy based on group, group list, network, or type. Statistics Polling Management Quickly identify and resolve element polling errors. ehealth History View historical activity that has occurred with your ehealth systems to track configuration changes and problems. Job Scheduler View scheduled system jobs for your ehealth systems and the job history. User Management Enable or disable user access to OneClickEH. Setup Enable the SmartTree feature for groups. System Information View environment variables, license keys, and server files. May 2005
Concord OneClick for ehealth ehealth Status Summary Immediately after you log in to an ehealth system in your World View, OneClickEH displays a high-level summary of all activity pertaining to that ehealth system, as shown in Figure 1. The Status Summary automatically refreshes every minute. From this window, you can quickly drill down to administrative functions within the OneClickEH console interface. This ehealth Status Summary window provides you with the following information: Statistics Polling Status specifies the time of the next scheduled poll, the number of good and bad polls. It also shows you the poll duration for normal and fast polls, as well as the average normal and fast poll rates over the last 24 hours. If you hover your mouse over a bar in one of the charts, OneClickEH displays the number of elements that were polled during that period. From this section, you can drill down to the All Errors element grid to review and manage your bad polls. License Tracking summarizes the total number of licenses that you have available, the total number that you have purchased, and the number of licenses that you need to poll the elements in your infrastructure. 24-Hour Job Summary shows the total number of scheduled system jobs that have failed and the number of jobs that have run recently. From this section, you can drill down to the Job History window for more information. Log Information provides you with drilldowns to two useful, informational grids: ehealth Logs shows you the entire ehealth file structure for your primary system directories. Database Alerts shows you all messages and errors resulting from daily database operations to help you isolate problems that have occurred with the Oracle database. System Messages shows the latest three system messages that ehealth has generated. From this section, you can drill down to the System Messages window for more information. The following sections describe the value of your Concord OneClick for ehealth World View and the ways in which you can use the streamlined administrative interface to manage your ehealth systems. Figure 1. ehealth Status Summary 2
Concord OneClick for ehealth The OneClickEH World View of Your Infrastructure From the Concord OneClick for ehealth World View, you can manage your ehealth systems and the elements that they are monitoring 24x7. From any location, you can access your own World View via the Web and access a streamlined ehealth administrative interface. The World View enables you to do the following: 2.1. Monitor and manage all of your ehealth systems View a complete hierarchy of all elements being managed by your ehealth systems Manage from a simpler and streamlined administrative interface. 2.1 Monitor and Manage All of Your ehealth Systems From this single interface, you can monitor and manage all of your ehealth systems, even if they are running on different platforms or supporting different ehealth releases. In the example shown in Figure 2, ehealth #1 is running ehealth Release 5.7 on Solaris, ehealth #2 is running ehealth Release 5.7 of Traffic Accountant on HP-UX, and ehealth #3 is running ehealth Release on Windows. In your view, you can include a mixture of standalone ehealth systems, ehealth Distributed Systems, and ehealth systems running Remote Poller or Traffic Accountant. (OneClickEH is not supported on Windows NT platforms or ehealth Distributed Consoles.) To facilitate administration, OneClickEH allows up to 25 administrators to simultaneously manage your ehealth systems. Each administrator can access a World View from any Web browser. This allows multiple administrators to work collaboratively to manage your ehealth systems. If you have many ehealth systems supporting your business, you can organize your World View to make it easy to find each system quickly. For example, you can place your ehealth systems in a hierarchy of folders based on geographic region. 2.2 View a Complete Hierarchy of All Elements Different ehealth systems Simpler administrative interface Element hierarchy Figure 2. Features of the OneClickEH World View The Managed Resources feature of your World View enables you to view all of the elements that ehealth is monitoring in any of the following ways: Finding elements Viewing by group Viewing by group list Viewing by network Viewing by type The standard display of each view shows the properties of all elements in a standard grid, similar to the example shown in Figure 3. In each of these views, you can sort any column to quickly find elements of particular interest to you. You can also use your mouse to move, reorder, and resize the columns, as needed. If you want to save the data, you can right-click to copy or export selected entries to a file, export the entire grid, or drag individual rows of information to another application. You can also right-click to print the entire grid. To update the element information based on the last normal poll, you can right-click and select Refresh Data. 3
Concord OneClick for ehealth Figure 3. OneClickEH Element Grid Managing Your Elements. For any selected element in the grid, you can right-click to display the standard popup menu of management actions shown in Figure 4: Ping from server Enable fast polling Modify community string Enable/disable polling Delete element Retire element Unretire element Properties (shown in Figure 5) At-a-Glance, Trend, and Element Configuration report drilldowns Viewing Element Properties. For any selected element in the grid, you can right-click (or double-click) to display a summary of its properties, as shown in Figure 5: Name IP address State (Active/Inactive) Poll (Yes/No) Poll Rate (normal/slow/fast) MTF Name (MIB Translation File) Community String (public or private) Licenses (number consumed by that element) Alias (if applicable) Device ID Speed In/Speed Out Remotely Polled (Yes/No) Figure 4. 5 Concord OneClick for ehealth Finding Elements. The Find Elements feature allows you to search for any element that you are monitoring with the selected ehealth system by specifying the name or IP address using asterisks (*text*) as wildcards. You can exclude the element s subcomponents from your search or include them. After OneClickEH finds the elements that match your search criteria, it displays the properties in an element grid Viewing Elements by Group. The By Group feature shows you all groups that you have created for the elements that you are monitoring. If you use logical naming conventions such as city-organization to indicate the geographic regions in which your elements reside and the departments that they support, OneClickEH can create an intelligent grouping hierarchy based on that naming convention. For example, if you create eight groups within the United States (four within the Boston region and four within the Atlanta region), you could prefix each group name with the label boston or atlanta. If you have enabled the SmartTree feature, OneClickEH would then display these groups in two separate tiers in the hierarchy based on that naming convention, as shown in Figure 6. In this example, atlanta and boston appear in the World View as virtual groups to reflect your grouping hierarchy. Although you did not actually create the groups atlanta and boston, OneClickEH assumes, based on the use of hyphens, that this is the appropriate grouping hierarchy and creates it. It also notes the number of elements in each group Viewing Elements by Group List. The By Group List feature shows you all group lists that you have created for the elements that you are monitoring. You can select a group list to view the groups within it Viewing Elements by Network. The By Network feature enables you to view your entire element hierarchy based on IP address rather than technology type or group. For example, the folder 127.*Net contains all elements with IP addresses beginning with the 127 octet. Figure 6. Element Hierarchy Viewing Elements by Type. The By Type feature enables you to see your entire multi-technology element hierarchy sorted by technology type (system, disk, disk partition, and so on). You can select the folder for any element type in the hierarchy and display all elements of that type and their properties. 2.3 Manage from a Simpler, Streamlined Interface For each ehealth system that you include, the World View displays a full menu of administrative functions, as shown in Figure 7: Statistics Polling Management ehealth History Scheduled Jobs User Management Setup System Information Figure 7. Admin Functions 5
Concord OneClick for ehealth 3.0 Statistics Polling Management The Concord OneClick for ehealth streamlined Statistics Polling Management interface provides you with immediate access to all polling error messages that ehealth has generated. You can easily sort the information to find problems that are of particular concern to you. From this single interface, you can identify elements that are reporting polling errors from the last normal poll period, investigate to determine why, and take immediate action to enable ehealth to resume polling them. Taking Immediate Action As shown in Figure 8, the Statistics Polling Management interface displays a grid with the element name, primary properties, and the error message. It also shows the time period for which ehealth has not returned data. The grid display is flexible and customizable. You can reorder and resize the columns. To quickly find specific information, you can sort the data alphabetically or chronologically. You can also export or copy the data to a file or print it. By right-clicking, you can access the menu of actions shown in Figure 8 to resolve an error. You can also access some of these actions from the Managed Resources grids: Ping from server Confirm that the element is reachable within your infrastructure. Rediscover Update the element in your poller configuration. Rediscover with Rules Rediscover the element by using a DCI rule to filter the results. Enable fast polling Sets the poll rate of the selected element to the fast poll rate. Modify community string Change the SNMP password that you assigned to the device to control read and write access to the data. Disable Polling Stop polling the element. Delete Remove the element from the database if you do not want to poll it. Retire Retire an element if you no longer want to poll it, but want to include it in reports. Figure 8. Statistics Polling Management 6 Properties Review the element properties. At-a-Glance, Trend Drill down to reports to troubleshoot the problem. Element Configuration Access configuration details obtained from the poller configuration (for example, agent address) and identify the element s associations to other elements. Managing Typical Polling Problems Using OneClickEH. With the Statistics Polling Management interface, you have the capability to quickly and easily manage typical polling errors: Received an SNMP error If an element experiences an index shift following a reboot, you can confirm that the IP address is correct, and then rediscover it to resume polling. No response error If your SNMP agent is unavailable, you can re-enable the agent, and then rediscover it and resume polling. No response to ping error If an element is not reachable, it may have been removed or the network may be experiencing problems. You can confirm by pinging the device, and then delete it from the database, temporarily disable it, or retire it. If it does exist, you can rediscover it and resume polling for it.
Concord OneClick for ehealth ehealth History The ehealth History feature of your World View enables you to view historical activity that has occurred with your ehealth system. You can track the activity that has taken place and the users who performed the actions. To quickly find specific information of interest to you in any of the grids, you can reorder the columns and sort the data. You can also export all or some of the data to a file; then save it or print it. By right-clicking on a grid, you can refresh the data immediately. The ehealth History feature gives you access to several types of message grids: System Messages generated by ehealth as user activity has taken place on the system and system jobs have run, as shown in Figure 10. Using this information, you can pinpoint when problems occurred with the ehealth system. Job History generated by ehealth to identify the status of scheduled jobs. (This grid is described in the next section, Scheduled Jobs.) Web Activity messages include those generated by the Apache Web server as users access the ehealth Web server, as well as errors that have occurred. By correlating the errors with the activity, you can use this grid to identify when and how problems occurred with the ehealth Web server. Database Alerts generated by the Oracle database. These include messages and errors resulting from daily database operations such Figure 9. ehealth History as shutdown, startup, and archiving; messages sent to the operator console; and errors causing trace files. This message grid helps you to isolate problems that have occurred with the Oracle database. OneClickEH Activity messages generated as users perform administrative actions. This grid enables you to quickly identify the administrators who recently made configuration changes to OneClickEH, the tasks that they performed, and when the activity took place. In each of these message grids, errors appear in red, warnings appear in yellow, and informational messages appear in white, as shown in the example. To quickly find messages of particular interest, you can sort by timestamp, type, or content. Sort messages by timestamp Sort messages alphabetically Figure 10. System Message Grid 7
Concord OneClick for ehealth 5.0 Job Scheduler The Job Scheduler feature of the World View enables you to view two types of informational grids related to your scheduled system jobs: Job History (Figure 11) shows you the status of all scheduled system jobs that ehealth has run recently or during a specified time period (Completed, Killed, or Failed). Scheduled Jobs (Figure 12) shows you the status of all active jobs currently scheduled. In the Job History grid, you can quickly sort the information to identify jobs that have failed, have been failing repeatedly over time, or are taking much longer than usual to run. In the Active Jobs grid, you can determine when each job is scheduled to run. If you want to save any of the data, you can export it to a text file or copy it. You can also print the entire grid. Figure 11. Job History Figure 12. Scheduled Jobs 8
Concord OneClick for ehealth User Management The User Management feature of the World View allows you to control which ehealth administrators can access OneClick for ehealth. With a single click, you can enable or disable access for a selected user and the list refreshes automatically. You can sort the User Account column alphabetically to find specific user names, or sort the OneClickEH Access column to identify all users currently with or without access. If you want to save the list of OneClickEH users, you can export all or a portion of it to a file, or just copy the entries that interest you. You can also print the list as well. Right-click on the grid to enable or disable access for a particular user. Figure 13. Managing OneClickEH User Accounts 7.0 Setup The Setup feature of OneClickEH allows you to configure a SmartTree hierarchy for your managed elements. If you enable the SmartTree, OneClickEH will create an intelligent grouping hierarchy in your World View based on the naming conventions that you use, as described previously in Viewing Elements by Group. on page System Information The System Information feature of OneClickEH provides you with three useful view-only grids. As with all OneClickEH grids, you can sort the information to locate specific data quickly, copy or export it to a file and save it, and print the entire grid. Environment Variables shows you the current settings for your ehealth system s environment. License Keys shows you the total number of licenses that you have purchased, the type, and the expiration date. It is useful to review this grid if the License Usage section of your ehealth Status summary indicates that you have very few licenses available or have run out of licenses. By sorting the expiration column, you can quickly assess how many licenses will expire soon. To make more licenses available, you can turn off polling for some elements. Server Files shows you the entire ehealth file structure for your primary system directories. The grid shows you the file names, size, read/write access settings, last modified date, and owner. 9
