1 POLICY STATEMENT: Staff Certification Lancaster General Health is committed to the professional growth and development of its employees and supports the achievement of certification by staff members which enhances their jobs skills and career development. SCOPE: All regular full and part time staff of Lancaster General Health who work a.5 or greater full time equivalent and who have been employed by Lancaster General Health for at least one year. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Professional certifications, related to the current positions held by an employee, or a healthcare certification which contributes to the professional development of a Lancaster General Health employee, are eligible for reimbursement. Professional licenses or certifications required as part of the job qualifications for a position are not eligible for reimbursement under this policy. The certification must be granted by a nationally recognized certifying body. The respective department Vice President and Vice President of HR will determine which national certification programs qualify for certification pay. A list of certifications recognized for reimbursement is attached; this list is not all-inclusive. PROCEDURES: Employees may initially be reimbursed for an amount up to $ towards a qualifying certification and $ annually thereafter. Only one certification per year is eligible for reimbursement. This benefit does not include re-imbursement for coursework. Reimbursement for coursework related to certification may be available under the tuition reimbursement policy. If an exam is required for the certification, the employee must pass the certifying exam in order to be eligible to receive reimbursement for the certification. Travel required to take the certifying e xam is the responsibility of the employee. The employee may, with the approval of their manager, use Paid Time Off if the exam is offered during employees work time. The employee must remain in their position for one year following the reimbursement or they will be required to repay the certifying amount. The employee may request reimbursement through their manager/director by submitting proof of certification and the amount paid to the certifying agent. A copy of the certification and a Business Travel/Expense Reimbursement Voucher (Form # LG100) must be submitted to their manager/director and department Vice President for approval. (Please find the Business Travel/Expense Reimbursement Voucher as a Reference Document associated with this Policy. Approved requests must be forwarded to Human Resources- Employment for entry into the Lawson system and will be forwarded to Finance for reimbursement.
