Staff will be required to carry a mobile phone and be contactable at reasonable times. You are required to be available to respond in a major incident within the IT service that may be impacted by the Technology Group. You may be required to be on-call on a pre-arranged rota basis, but no more frequently than one week in four. Job Purpose Responsible for the maintenance of the BU network, telephony, security and audio/visual infrastructure to required levels of availability and for ensuring any potential issues that could significantly impact on service are acted upon proactively. Act as 3rd line support for network, telephony, security and audio/visual systems to resolve service issues. To support the development of effective service improvement plans for the production portfolio within this role s area of expertise and to contribute to the design and development of the BU Production Infrastructure.
2 Main Responsibilities 1. Assist with the day to day management and configuration of network, telephony, security and audio/visual systems across the production and development portfolio. 2. Identify and propose preventative measures and services to improve service delivery within LAN (wired and wireless), WAN, Telephony, Security and Audio/Visual systems. 3. Assist with the successful implementation of new and enhanced network, telephony, security and audio/visual services. 4. Work with other teams and individuals to assist with any service improvement plans. 5. Working with Senior Communications ngineers, configure and install network, telephony, security and audio/visual devices and related products. 6. ocument procedures and scripts for all aspects day-to-day operations. 7. Pro-actively utilise network, telephony, security and audio/visual tools to investigate, diagnose and resolve problems, within service level agreement tolerances. 8. Support the Communications Team to manage and maintain a high availability BU network, telephony, security and audio/visual infrastructure. 9. Continuously update and develop knowledge of network, telephony, security and audio/visual technologies. 10. Construct, extend or maintain, test, correct and document components within the technologies to achieve well engineered products. 11. Liaise with IT Services colleagues, Faculties, Professional Services, suppliers and agencies to implement successful live environments (as well as upgrades) using structured deployment techniques, tailored to BU requirements. 12. nsure compliance with BU internal processes, governance and legislative requirements. 13. Maintain a personal development programme as agreed with line manager.

The delivery of these systems involves a complex environment to ensure the services are responsive, reliable, robust and secure. To deliver and maintain these services we require in-depth, wide-ranging technical knowledge and experience.
4 Communications Team Areas of Responsibility include: Main technology areas: Cisco Unified Communications management. Wired and Wireless routed and switched networks. Audio/Visual systems. Access Control systems. Application elivery Controllers. Firewalls and Intrusion Prevention Systems. NS, HCP, NTP Services. Associated technologies: Cisco ASAs and Firepower Security solutions. Cisco Network evices, Catalyst and Nexus. Cisco Wireless Access Points F5 BigIP ACs and Load-Balancers. Crestron AV Solutions. Related technologies from other areas: Virtualisation: VMware vsphere Storage: MC VPLX/VNX Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows (desktop and server), Apple OSX/MacOS, RedHat Linux For information the BU nterprise Wide Technical infrastructure consists of: C500 servers running Linux, Microsoft Windows, HP-UX and SunOS operating systems both physical and in virtual environments C350 applications/databases c20,000 internal user accounts c4000 desktop computers c50,000 accounts For Information the Network infrastructure consists of: 35 communications rooms Cisco routers and switches and network points Wireless N coverage throughout the University using c.500 access points 6 Gbit connection to the internet, with 1Gbit backup link Cisco IP Telephony System capable of supporting c4000+ users Contacts Internal: All staff up to heads of Faculty/Support Services The post holder will need to work with all staff in IT Services. xternal: Professional user groups and University Partners. Software vendors, support lines and third-party vendors Challenges Maintaining acceptable levels of service across a highly complex and technical service provision. Supporting highly complex and technical solutions to budget and timescales Understanding highly technical and complex issues and working with Senior Communications ngineers on appropriate solutions

Additional Information (IT Services only) When on-call, staff must:- be expected to be within one hour travel time of the University be fit and available for work at all times.
