The ICB Conference will feature a vendor tradeshow to be held May 1 at noon and all day May 2, both days in the general meeting area. In addition, a reception will be held Tuesday, May 2 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Local 36 Training Center, 2319 Chouteau Ave., Suite 200, St. Louis, Certification classes, followed by certification exams, will be held for TAB Supervisor, HVAC Fire Life Safety Level 1 Supervisor, HVAC Fire Life Safety Level 2 Supervisor, EPA 608 Technician, NAFA NCT Level 1 Technician, In addition, an ASHE Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) course for certification will be offered for an additional price. See details below. The 16th Annual ICB conference will begin on Monday May 1, 2017 at 8 a.m. and conclude on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 5 p.m. in St. Charles, Missouri. This year s joint labor and management event will offer numerous classes, workshops and seminars on a variety of current topics geared toward working professionals, with a focus on codes, standards and certification requirements that control our industry. For the first time, all classes, workshops and seminars will be open to all attendees from both labor and management. ICB through NEMIC will provide certification testing for supervisors, technicians, and contractors who qualify. In today s marketplace, being certified is very desirable. The ICB certification is a statement that ICB-certified technicians, supervisors, and contractors are competent, reliable, and qualified professionals. Through certification, ICB and NEMIC aim to increase employment and business opportunities. 3 CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS NEMI TABB Supervisor The TABB Certified Supervisor directs and oversees work performed by TABB Certified Technicians. The class will discuss the necessary skill sets, required tools and work procedures to meet TABB standards, including the ICB Code of Conduct. This class will instruct supervisors on their responsibilities in overseeing the work performed and reviewing and signing off on the TAB report. This class will be followed by a certification exam. NEMI HVAC Fire Life Safety Level 1 Supervisor The HVAC Fire Life Safety Level 1 Supervisor class focuses on the skills and tools required to direct and oversee the work performed by one or several ICB Certified HVAC Fire Life Safety Level 1 Technicians. This class will instruct Supervisors on their responsibilities in developing procedures needed to perform an inspection of a building s fire and smoke dampers, as well as explain the responsibilities before, during and after a damper inspection. This class will be followed by a certification exam. NEMI HVAC Fire Life Safety Level 2 Supervisor The HVAC Fire Life Safety Level 2 Supervisor class focuses on the skills and tools required to direct and oversee the work performed by one or several ICB Certified HVAC Fire Life Safety Level 2 Technicians. This class outlines the National Fire Protection Association standards on which most local and state fire and life safety codes are based, and trains supervisors on how to inspect, test, and maintain smoke control and smoke management systems in a building. This class will be followed by a certification exam. EPA 608 Technician The EPA has established a certification program for technicians who perform maintenance, service, repair, or disposal that could be reasonably expected to release refrigerants into the atmosphere. This will be a 16-hour course. It is intended for both service and TAB technicians who wish to become Section 608 certified to work with refrigerants and are required to use gages to take system pressure readings. This certification is an EPA requirement for any technician who puts refrigerant gages on a system. It is no longer just for service technicians, and will soon be needed for some TABrelated work. This two-day course will include the following instruction on the various parts of Section 608: CORE: Core is required knowledge for anyone touching the system TYPE I: Type I is required for anyone working with small systems, such as refrigerators TYPE II: Type II is required for anyone working with split, roof top or built-up systems TYPE III: Type III is required for working with large, low pressure, centrifugal type chillers A participant can become a Type I, Type II or Type III certified technician by passing the Core exam along with the relevant Type. A technician can become Universal Certified by passing Type I, Type II, and Type III with the Core section. This class will be followed by a certification exam. It is highly recommended that participants review the Module 0200 Study Guide prior to attending the class. This easy-touse four-color manual contains learning techniques that are geared toward your needs, and is packed with more than 30 illustrations to improve learning and retention. This manual is divided by exam sections and allows you to study specific problem areas more thoroughly. A copy will be shipped to you automatically at no additional charge when you register for the course. You must register early to make sure you get the book two weeks prior to the conference.

4 NAFA Level 1 Technician The National Air Filtration Association (NAFA) Certified Technician (NCT) Program was first introduced to NAFA members in January 1999 as an effort to add more credibility and professionalism to the air filtration industry. Since its introduction, nearly 300 air filter service technicians have taken the 100-question, open-book exam based on the NAFA Installation, Operation, and Maintenance of Air Filtration Systems manual. This course will prepare students to take the Certified Technician exam by enabling them to become proficient in knowledge and understand the skill necessary in the following areas: Air filters, mathematics, air flow, filter systems, filter systems in operation, HEPA and HEPA filter systems, electronic air cleaners, gas phase filters, air filter pressure, ultraviolet germicidal irradiation, industrial finishing supply and exhaust filters, and safety. It is highly recommended that participants study the Installation, Operation and Maintenance of Air Filtration Systems - 3rd Edition prior to the class. NFPA 70E Electrical Safety based on SMOHIT Materials Electrocution is a well-known hazard associated with direct contact with electrical energy. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, it is estimated that more than 400 fatalities and nearly 10,000 serious injuries occur each year due to electrocution and arc flash incidents. Arc flash incidents alone are estimated to occur five to 10 times each day resulting in a fatality every workday. According to OSHA, electrocution was the thirdleading cause of worker fatalities in the construction industry in calendar year To help prevent these type of electrical accidents, the recent 2015 version of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E: Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace makes essential updates in the areas of safety, maintenance, and training NFPA 70E updates affect your most valuable assets.
