Chapter 1. Introduction 1.1. OVERVIEW OF SUBSCRIBER SERVICES The quality of service rendered by a telephone exchange is traditionally measured by the availability criteria. In the modern digital exchanges with extremely reliable hardware and software, service availability is ensured to a great extent. As a result the focus of provision of service has shifted from mere availability of service to the enrichment of features and facilities available to the subscribers. This enrichment aims at faster call setup, better call completion rate and provision of a wide variety of features and facilities to suit the needs of both the individual subscribers and business establishments. The move is to take the services to the customer at economical rates and the implementation of these services in a user-friendly manner. With the introduction of ISDN services, the network boundaries are disappearing. This important development has an important bearing on the provision of services also. The methods for activation, deactivation, utilization and charging of the subscriber services are standardized across the networks in order to take full advantage of the intelligent switches and user-network interfaces. Sufficient flexibility has been provided in provisioning methods and charging for the services. Thus at any stage, any change in the methods of service provisioning and tariff structures can be easily taken care of in C-DOT DSS MAX. In the Indian network, the services offered to subscribers are categorized as follows: 1. Basic Services 2. Supplementary Services 3. Non-Supplementary Services 4. Miscellaneous Services Basic services are composed of telephone lines provided individually or in groups. Any other service that is provided specific to a subscriber s directory number and controlled by the administration and/or the subscriber himself is termed as supplementary service. A non-supplementary service is also provided to a subscriber s directory number but is more general in nature and affects the quality of service at large. For example, Malicious Call Identification service is provided SUBSCRIBER FEATURES & ISDN SUPPLEMENTARY SERVICES 5

Chapter 1. specifically to a subscriber but there is no really value-addition to the service and the concern is beyond an individual subscriber. Miscellaneous services are also value-based services but they have a different method of provisioning than the supplementary or non-supplementary services and can not be categorized under either PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE DOCUMENT This document is aimed at providing necessary information to the exchange administrator for proper utilization of subscriber services in C-DOT DSS MAX. This information may be suitably condensed and supplied to the ultimate users of the services by the administration ORGANIZATION OF THE DOCUEMENT The document is organized on the lines of services' categorization discussed in section 1.1 above. Chapter 2 and 3 are on the description of basic services, supplementary services, non-supplementary & miscellaneous facilities. The description is given in a structured format for all the services for easy comprehension. Annexures A, B and C contain the summary of service activation and deactivation procedures, the tones and announcements provided in C-DOT DSS MAX NOTATION CONVENTIONS The notation conventions followed in rest of the document are given below. Any other abbreviation or typical usage is explained at their place of appearance in the document. BT - Busy Tone Conv - Conversation DT - Dial Tone Flash - Hook switch flashing, required for feature usage during conversation IND - Indication or acknowledgement for the action or request of the subscribers. It may be Positive Indication Tone (PIT) in case of success or Negative Indication Tone (NIT) in case of failure. 10 Chapter 2. Basic Services 2.1. PBX LINES : LINE HUNTING This feature allows automatic selection of a free line from a group of lines, on reception of a call to the principal directory number (PDN) of the hunt group. This facility is useful for call to inquiry services like the Railways, Airlines, etc. or where the group of lines are connected to PBX at the other end. The hunting procedure is initiated only when the PDN is called. If the member directory number is called directly, such calls are handled like normal calls SUBSCRIBER QUALITY OBSERVATION This facility allows the exchange administrator for monitoring the quality of service for a subscriber line that is being offered by the exchange. The traffic information for originating, terminating or both originating and terminating calls are generated for the telecom administration, comprising such parameters as total successful calls, total terminating calls etc. Each subscriber has one set of counters associated with it. Whenever the counter values are read/displayed, they are automatically resetted to zero to start the traffic observation once again CALL CHARGE FACILITIES Payphone Service (CCB) This feature allows the installation of special telephone instruments permitting outgoing calls after insertion of coins or credit card. Some outgoing calls, e.g. to emergency services, may be permitted without payment. Incoming calls can land on the telephone as used Subscriber's Home Meter This feature allows the subscriber to have a charge meter installed at his premises for displaying the total call units. The facility is useful to the subscribers who want to keep track of the number of calls and the bulk charge counter. This meter operates on 16 KHz pulses received from the 8 C-DOT DSS MAX

BASIC SERVICES exchange. The feature is used by STD/ISD PCO operators. In some cases, this facility is also extended to PBX lines Printed Record of Duration & Call Charge (AMA) This feature allows the subscriber to get a printed record of all the calls (or only long distance calls) made from his line indicating the day and date, the called number, duration and call charge Non-metered Lines This feature allows installation of certain telephone lines, calls to which are not metered. This feature is useful in the provision of certain emergency services like fire, police, ambulance, and other public utilities INTERCEPTION OF CALLS This feature allows the calls, which can not reach the wanted subscriber, due to some reason, to be intercepted and diverted to an announcement or operator position in order to give proper information to the caller. The utility of this feature lies in the reduction of repeated ineffective calls which might have been attempted in the absence of adequate information. The reasons for interception include: Dialling of unallocated exchange and/or route codes Dialling of a number or numbers allowed by the numbering scheme but not yet allocated or no longer in service Route/s are out of order Route/s are congested Subscriber line is temporarily out of service Invocation of absent subscriber service Suspension of service due to non-payment of bill This is an administration controlled service and is activated by the administration by detecting one or more of the above reasons and accordingly setting discrimination information for the concerned subscriber. Announcement are available for all the reasons given above and their text can be found in the annexes. In case of unallocated codes and absent subscriber service (with diversion to manual answering service), the intercepted calls may be presented to operator positions meant for this purpose. 12 Chapter DISTICTIVE RINGING FOR LONG DISTANCE CALLS It is used to notify the caller that the incoming call is from distant place. This subscriber gets one type of ringing for Local calls and a different type of ringing for STD/ISD calls. The implementation of this feature is dependent on the type of Power Supply used in the exchange. In case of already commissioned sites, this feature will be available to the subscribers only after implementing the necessary modifications on the Power Supply card. No special procedure is required for activation, deactivation or usage of the facility and it is available by default to all the subscribers in the exchange PRIORITY LINES This feature is also administration controlled and it allows some subscriber lines to be marked as priority lines. These lines get preference while originating calls during abnormal conditions such as exchange overload and network congestion. In C-DOT DSS MAX this feature is implemented by suitably controlling subscriber calling categories and the routing data. A very useful feature for essential services like police, hospitals, fire service, etc. during contingencies CALLS TO LEVEL 1 POSITIONS C-DOT DSS MAX provides access to local level 1 services from ordinary lines, PBX groups and CCB lines. These calls may be metered or non-metered as decided by the local administration BOTH PARTY CLEAR This administration controlled facility provides manual hold for calls terminating on a number which is registered for the facility. It is a very useful facility for emergency services like police, fire, ambulance/hospital, customs and national security agencies where the identity of the called party needs to be established. Call clearing is controlled by the subscriber with the facility irrespective of being the calling or the called party. This feature allows a call to be held in conversation phase unless cleared by the subscriber with Both Party Clear facility which may be the calling or called subscriber. In normal circumstances, a call is cleared - a) immediately if the calling subscriber clears first or b) after CSH time-out (60s) if the called subscriber clears first. If a subscriber has Both Party Clear facility and is either the calling party or the called party, the other party can not clear the call until and unless the Call is 10 C-DOT DSS MAX

BASIC SERVICES cleared by the party who has Both Party Clear facility. The other party is kept in conversation (i.e. the voice path is kept through between the two parties) and Dial Tone is withheld to the other party even though it has gone on-hook and off-hook again OPERATOR TRUNK OFFER This facility allows the network operator to speak to a subscriber already busy in a conversation. A useful facility for the administration and subscribers as it allows the operator to announce an important call, for example, a trunk call to a subscriber already busy in a conversation. The option to accept the call from the operator lies with the subscriber. Feature Usage Operator dials the called party number and gets BT. Operator does trunk offer by using the trunk offer switch/key and get CRT while the called party gets Intrusion Tone. After sometime, the voice path between the desired party, already in conversation and the operator is switched through to announce the trunk call. The called party may choose to discontinue the established call and accept the call being offered by the operator. In such a case, the subscriber goes on-hook and the operator gets silence. Else, operator disconnects and receives DT. The operator again operates the trunk offer switch/key. The operator gets RBT while the called party is rung. Upon answer by the called party, the operator offers the call to the subscriber DIALLING BY EQUIPMENT NUMBER (DBE) OR DIRECTED CALLING This feature allows a subscriber (generally the exchange administration personnel) to dial the equipment number of the wanted port directly. Dialing service circuits, tones, announcements and trunks directly is also permitted. This feature is of particular importance to maintenance personnel in the field. This facility is also available to the local exchange operator. Feature Usage a. Landing on a line or service circuit or a trunk without any digits. 15 Chapter 3. Supplementary Services 3.1. RAPID CALL SET UP SERVICES Hotline Without Time-out, With Directory Number This feature allows the subscriber to make calls to a fixed destination by just lifting the telephone handset. The subscriber cannot dial normal outgoing calls. Incoming calls to a subscriber having this feature, however, are not affected. The fixed destination has to be pre-registered in the exchange with the help of exchange administrator and can not be modified by subscriber himself Hotline With Time-out, With Directory Number This feature allows a subscriber to make a call to a fixed destination by just lifting his handset and waiting for a short period of time (8 seconds) while receiving Dial Tone. In case the subscriber wants to make a call to someone else other than the fixed destination then the subscriber is expected to start dialing the directory number before the 8 second period expires. This is a useful facility, say, for communication between a factory and its registered offices or between two branches of an organization, etc. The facility should be registered in the exchange. It is possible that the subscriber can change the destination number which may be even STD or ISD. The hot line will mature only when the current access permit the call. Feature Usage LH and wait for a time-out (8 seconds) to receive RBT from distant end. Feature Activation to Programme Destination Number LH DT * 20 B # IND where B is the destination number. 16 Chapter CALL BOOKING SERVICES SEMI-AUTOMATIC ALARM This feature allows a subscriber to book an alarm with an operator located in the exchange and cause (an) alarm (wake up/reminder) call(s) to be made to his line at the time(s) specified by him and to hear an appropriate announcement when the call is answered. It can be a useful reminder service. The alarm call is made automatically by the exchange call processing software based on the called subscriber data entered by the operator at the time of booking the alarm Automatic Alarm This feature allows the subscriber to register alarms calls by specifying the time of alarms (wake up/reminder calls). At the specified time a call is made to the subscriber and, upon answer, alarm announcement is fed to him. If the subscriber is found busy or he does not answer the alarm call, the exchange will make maximum three retries to successfully contact the subscriber. The number of retries and the time gap between the retries is changeable via operator commands. A subscriber is allowed to have maximum six alarms booked on his line concurrently. The subscriber can cancel the specific alarm request or all the alarm calls currently booked by using a control procedure. This facility is completely automatic and can be used as a reminder service. Activation LH DT * 16 HH MM # HH-Hour, MM-Minute, De-Activation LH DT # 17 HH MM # IND to de-activate specific alarm LHDT#17# IND to de-activate all the alarms CALL RESTRICTION SERVICES These services enable a subscriber to restrict outgoing calls to a selected level from his line. The restriction level can be set with the help of an operator (OCR-ADMN) or by the subscriber himself (OCR-SUB) Outgoing Call Restrictions (OCRs) The possible restriction levels are: No restriction (Level 0 i.e. all allowed) 14 C-DOT DSS MAX

SUPPLEMENTARY SERVICES Only local calls and selected level 1 services (as 10X, 121, 122, 162, 163, 198 etc. allowed (Level 1 i.e. outgoing upto local) No ISD calls allowed (Level 3 i.e. outgoing upto STD) No outgoing calls except level 1 services (Level 4 i.e outgoing upto 10X). No ISD and STD calls allowed (Level 5 i.e. outgoing upto 90) These levels apply to both administration controlled and subscriber controlled OCRs Administrative Controlled OCRs (OCR-ADMN) This feature allows the Telecom Administration to prevent all or certain outgoing calls from the telephone of a subscriber - on his request. A useful facility for a subscriber if he does not have to make STD/ISD calls often and wants to ensure prevention of misuse of his line. The feature permits barring of ISD calls, STD calls, Regional calls or even local calls Subscriber Controlled Restrictions OCRs (OCR-SUB) This feature allows the subscriber to select the current access level for prevention of all or certain outgoing calls from his telephone line by following certain control procedures. This facility is completely automatic and requires the subscriber to dial a service code and a secret keyword. Keyword can be changed only by the subscriber himself and is completely hidden to the administration though initially the subscriber has to request the administration for making his line upto-regional or upto-std or upto-isd. To select the key word for the first time : LH DT * 23 ABCD ABCD # IND Change of Keyword LH DT * 23 ABCD (old) PQRS (new) # IND Selection of Current Access Level : LD DT * 24 PASSWD (ABCD) N # current access level. where N = 0,1,3,4 or 5 depending on Intrusion Barring This facility is provided by the exchange administration. While a call is in progress, any kind of intrusion (like trunk offer, call waiting, call queuing etc.) will not be effective for the line having the intrusion barring facility. For a call to be totally intrusion free both the parties should have this facility. active on the line. This feature is to be registered by the adminstrator and controlled by the subscriber. Activation LH DT * 58 # IND Deactivation LH DT # 59 # IND CONVERSATION PHASE : Activation HSF TDT *58 IND Deactivation HSF TDT *59 IND Incoming Call Restrictions Administration Controlled Incoming Barring This facility is provided by the exchange administration. Once subscribed, all the incoming calls to the subscriber will be barred. However, the subscriber originating facilities will be un-affected CALL COMPLETION SERVICES Call Forwarding Unconditional to a Fixed Number This facility allows the subscriber to instruct the exchange to divert incoming calls coming on his line to a fixed number located in the exchange (or to a telephone). This feature meets the needs of those subscribers who do not want to lose them in their absence. This service can be activated and deactivated by a control procedure to be followed by the subscriber. The outgoing calls from this telephone remain unaffected. Feature Usage Activation LH DT * 28 # IND On lifting the handset the subscriber gets Warning Dial Tone (WDT) instead of normal Dial Tone (DT) to indicate that subscriber's incoming calls are being diverted. 19 SUPPLEMENTARY SERVICES On lifting the handset the subscriber gets Warning Dial Tone (WDT) instead of normal Dial Tone (DT) to indicate that subscriber's incoming calls are being diverted Call Forwarding Unconditional to a Selected Number (Follow me) A subscriber can instruct the exchange to divert all incoming calls to his line to a dynamically selectable number of his choice. This feature can be used to get all his calls diverted to a telephone where the subscriber is likely to be available. This service can be activated or deactivated by following a control procedure defining the destination number as part of this procedure. The destination number can be STD or ISD subject to the condition that the current access level permits it. Feature Usage Activation LH DT * 14 B # IND Deactivation LH WDT # 15 # IND On lifting the handset the subscriber gets Warning Dial Tone (WDT) instead of normal Dial Tone (DT) to indicate that subscriber's incoming calls are being diverted Call Forwarding on Busy to a Single Number This feature allows the subscriber (served user) who cannot receive a call because he is busy, to have the call diverted to another number. A useful facility for a subscriber who knows that he may be busy on his telephone and does not wish to lose fresh incoming calls while he is busy. This facility can be activated or deactivated by a control procedure. The subscriber has to select the number at the time of activation. The selected number can be even STD or ISD depending on the current access level of the subscriber. 20 Chapter 3. On lifting the handset the subscriber gets Warning Dial Tone (WDT) instead of normal Dial Tone (DT) to indicate that subscriber's incoming calls are being diverted Call Forwarding on Busy to a fixed no./group of Numbers with Hunt Facility This feature allows the subscriber to divert incoming calls on his number encountering busy condition to a free number or one out of a group of numbers. A useful facility for a person who is normally busy on his telephone and expects a large number of incoming calls which he does not wish to lose. The subscriber can activate or deactivate this feature by following a control procedure. The group of numbers have to be pre-registered in the exchange and only one of the numbers can be a number outside the exchange to which the served user belongs. However, these numbers can themselves be hunt group principal directory numbers (PDNs). (But in such cases, the hunt for a free line out of the group of numbers shall stop as soon as the group of lines represented by the PDN are polled and found free/busy). Feature Usage Activation LH DT * 66 # IND Deactivation LH WDT # 67 # IND On lifting the handset the subscriber gets Warning Dial Tone (WDT) instead of normal Dial Tone (DT) to indicate that subscriber's incoming calls are being diverted Call Forwarding on No Reply ( CFNR) to a Selected no. This feature is used to divert all the incoming calls meant for subscriber A after ring time out, to another subscriber B. The destination subscriber B is to be specified by the subscriber A. This facility can be subscribed for PSTN as well ISDN subscribers. The facility should be registered for the subscriber. The subscriber can active the facility by specifying destination number depending on it's current access level. Invocation of the facility in form of activation or deactivation is controlled by the subscriber. Activation LH DT * 222 B # IND 18 C-DOT DSS MAX

SUPPLEMENTARY SERVICES Deactivation LH DT # 223 # CFNR to a Fixed Number/Group It is possible to register a fixed no./a group of numbers, where a call will be diverted if the called user does not reply the call within answer timeout. The group of nos. are registered in the exchange and subscriber can not notify it by using control procedure. The activation and deactivation of the facility is controlled by the subscriber. Activation LH DT * 224 # Deactivation LH WDT # 225 # Call Waiting for Called Subscriber This facility allows a busy subscriber (served user) to be informed that a fresh caller is attempting to obtain a connection to his telephone and allows him to answer the waiting call if he desires within a time-out period. This service is of considerable interest to the subscribers who receive a large number of calls and also reduces the network load by reducing the number of infructuous call attempts. The subscriber can, if he desires, alternate between the two parties by flashing the hook switch. Activation LH DT * 18 # Deactivation LH DT # 19 # Feature Usage Call Hold Hook Switch Flash (HSF) causes switchover to the waiting party and puts the party in conversation on hold. (If one desires to end the current call and take the fresh call then one can replace the handset on hearing the ZIP tone. The current call shall be cleared and the served user rung for offering the fresh (i.e. waiting) call. If HSF has been used to accept the waiting call and putting the current party on hold, the only option is to alternate between the parties. This facility is used by the user to put the existing conversation on hold for the time being and initiate a new call or receive a call in waiting. The call, SUBSCRIBER FEATURES & ISDN SUPPLEMENTARY SERVICES 19

Chapter 3. which has been put on hold, is retrieved by the user as and when it is required. In case of ISDN subscribers, the call in waiting is offered by In-Band information. However, depending on the in-built capability of the ISDN Equipment being used by the subscriber, a call waiting indication message is also displayed on the LCD screen. The ISDN subscriber invokes the feature just by using functional key instead of HSF Queue Service Conv <functional key> for ISDN subscribers This feature allows the subscriber to have fresh callers placed in a queue when all his lines are busy. The service is very useful to subscribers who have a single number or a group number with lines served by an operator and who do not want to lose calls when the lines are busy. The use of this facility on single lines is normally useful only if the holding time of each call is likely to be very small (like routine inquiries etc.). On the other hand, for a group of lines, larger the group, more is the utility of this feature. When callers are queued up, they are given queue announcement informing them that they have been put in the queue. The individual subscriber is permitted to activate or deactivate the service by following a control procedure. The subscriber can also temporarily suspend the queue for making one outgoing call during conservation. Activate Queue LH WDT * 686 # IND Deactivate Queue LH DT # 685 # IND Suspension Conv Flash TDT * 684 # IND Now when the subscriber goes onhook, the next call in the queue is not offered to him and he is fed Dial Tone. The subscriber can now make an outgoing call within the suspension time-out (15 seconds). If he does not make a call within this period, the next call in the queue is offered to him. 20 C-DOT DSS MAX

SUPPLEMENTARY SERVICES 3.5. MULTI-PARTY SERVICES Conferencing 3 Party This feature allows more than two subscribers to converse amongst each other through the use of specified control procedures. A subscriber can addan additional subscriber in a call which has either been originated by him or received by him. He can later selectively remove a subscriber from the conference. This facility is useful as multiple users can confer without physically being present in one place. SUBSCRIBER FEATURES & ISDN SUPPLEMENTARY SERVICES 21

To bring the conference initiator (master) in conversation with old parties after master has talked to the new party Conv FLASH TDT * 253 # d. To remove a particular party from conference Conv FLASH TDT * 254 TN (option) # The TN here is optional. If TN is not specified, the party added last is dropped from conference, by default Conferencing Six Party/Multi Party This feature is similar to three party conference with a difference that a max. of 6 party can be part of conference. The procedure to start the conference is similar with exception that : Conv FLASH TDT * 251 TN # RBT should be followed to add a party in 6 party conference. Also before initiating the procedure to add a new party, the subscriber has to diall HSF TDT * 252 # to bring existing party in conversation NUMBER IDENTIFICATION SERVICES Calling Line Identification Presentation (CLIP) This feature is used to offer the call to the subscriber along with the details of Calling Party Identity. This facility can be subscribed for PSTN as well ISDN subscribers. The facility should be registered for the subscriber and no activation or invocation is required as it is activated by default, on registration. In case of Analog Subscribers, the telephone instrument should have capability to decode and display the CLI information. Alternatively, the subscribers can use special attachment in parallel to the existing telephone sets, to support this feature. All the ISDN instruments support this facility, by default. In few exceptional cases, the call may be presented to the subscriber without CLI as the relevant information is not available due to network constraint. 22 C-DOT DSS MAX

Calling Line Identification Restriction (CLIR) SUPPLEMENTARY SERVICES This feature is used to restrict the presentation of Calling Party Identity to called party who has subscribed with CLIP. This facility can be subscribed for PSTN as well ISDN subscribers. The facility CLIR should be registered for the subscriber and no activation or invocation is required as it is activated by default, on registration. This feature is valid only in case of the calls with in the exchange or across the network when the call is routed on CCS7 trunks, across the network Calling Line Identification Restriction Override (CLIRO) This feature is similar to CLIP' with only difference that a call is offered to the subscriber along with the details of Calling Party Identity even if calling party has subscribed to CLIR. This facility can be- subscribed for PSTN as well ISDN subscribers. No activation or invocation is required as it is activated by default, on registration Connected Line Identification Presentation (COLP) This feature is used by the calling party to know the identity of the connected party. This facility can be subscribed only for ISDN subscribers. No registration, activation or invocation is required as it is activated by default for all the ISDN subscribers, on creation itself Connected Identification Restriction ( COLR) This feature is used to restrict the presentation of Connected Party Identity to calling party who- has subscribed with COLP. This facility can - be subscribed only for ISDN subscribers. No activation or invocation is required as it is activated by default, on registration Connected Line Identification Restriction Override-(COLRO) This feature is used to by the calling party to know the details of Connected Party Identity- even if the connected party has subscribed to COLR. This facility can be subscribed only for ISDN subscribers. No activation or invocation is required as it is activated by default, registration Malicious Call Identification This feature allows the exchange to identify the subscriber making malicious calls to another subscriber. The caller may be in the same exchange or in another exchange. The identify of the calling subscriber can be established if - a) he/she is in the same exchange, or SUBSCRIBER FEATURES & ISDN SUPPLEMENTARY SERVICES 23

Chapter 3. b) there is intelligent signalling (CCITT (ITU-T) No. 7 or MF) on interexchange trunks Else, only the TEN of the incoming trunk can be known alongwith the other information of the call and the called number. Feature Usage Procedure for PSTN Subscriber : The subscriber can invoke the feature by flashing the hook switch during conversation. Feature Usage Procedure for ISDN Subscriber : The ISDN subscriber can invoke the feature by dialling *65# after pressing few other functional keys. The use of functional keys are based on the type of ISDN phone being used by the subscriber. For example, in case of PHILIPS phone, the invocation procedure is : Conv < MEM > < FUN > *65# In response to the activation procedure, malicious call information is displayed on the OOD as well as printed on the printer. Also a log is made in the disk of the IOP which can be retrieved by using the command DISPL- OOD-LOG GROUP LINE SUPPLEMENTARY SERVICES Direct Dialling In (DDI) This service enables a user of ISPBX to be called without attendant intervention. This service is based on the ISDN number. The DDI user, while being a subscriber of an ISPBX, is allocated an ISDN number from directory number set of the serving public exchange. The administration allocates a range of ISDN numbers towards the ISPBX, one for each DDI user Multiple Subscriber Number (MSN) This service provides the facility of assigning multiple ISDN numbers to more than one user on a single interface. This service allows direct dialling to one of the terminals connected to an access and enables the network to determine ISDN number which is applicable for originating calls for subscriber characteristics and charging services. The addressing of terminals is achieved by applying a set of ISDN numbers which need not be consecutive. When a call with one of these ISDN numbers is delivered, the corresponding MSN number is indicated to the MSN user. 24 C-DOT DSS MAX

SUPPLEMENTARY SERVICES Sub - Addressing (SUB) This service is offered to the called user that expands its addressing capability beyond that provided by the ISDN number. The sub-address is used by the served user to identify a particular terminal on a multi-drop access, or a virtual terminal or process within a terminal. If the calling party provides a sub-address in `SET-UP message, the network delivers this subaddress unchanged and without interpretation to the called user s installation. It is the called user s responsibility to interpret the significance of the sub-address CHARGING RELATED SUPPLEMENTARY SERVICES The Advice of Charge service provides charging information to the user paying for a call. The option of providing the information at a predefined stage of the call is based on the type of AOC facility, subscribed AOC-E, Charging information at the end of the call The charging information is provided by the serving local exchange at the end of a call. It is sent in the charge advice information element of the call clearing message AOC-D, Charging information during a call In this case the charging information is provided by the serving local exchange every time a quantum of charge has been added. The charging information is sent in an appropriate message. When the call is cleared, the remaining number of charge units (incremental case) or the total charge units (cumulative case) is transferred to the user in the call clearing message TERMINAL PORTABILITY (TP) Terminal Portability (TP) is a supplementary service that allows the user to move a terminal from one socket to another within the same basic access during the active phase of the call. It also allows the user to move a call from one terminal to another with the same basic access in the active phase of the call. 35 Annexure - C Recorded Announcements C.1 Overview Announcements are recorded in a digital format in a set of EPROMs which are put on the Announcement (ANN) Card in a Terminal Unit of a Base Module. Each ANN card provides 14 recorded announcements that can be fed to the subscribers. Each announcement is fed for 45 seconds and there after silence is fed to the subscriber. C.2 Format of an Announcement At the beginning of each recorded announcement, there is a "preamble" for 3 seconds. This period of 3 seconds is divided into the following segments of one second each: a) Silence This is the period which can really be treated as "Start of Announcement", and the announcement can be switched at any time in this period. b) 400 Hz Tone This tone indicates to the subscriber that what is going to follow is an announcement and not a message from a person with whom the subscriber can talk. This tone could, in future, be also used by various exchanges or, even the subscriber's apparatus to know that a call has encountered an announcement in a distant exchange. c) Silence This is the silence period after the tone and the subscriber will start hearing the actual announcement after this silence. After the preamble, the actual announcement is fed with pauses in between the spoken messages. This preamble pause for 3 seconds is indicated as (* Pause 3 *) in the following paragraphs. Similarly, other pauses between sentences in a 33 C-DOT DSS MAX

Annexure - B given recorded announcement are indicated in the announcement format as (* Pause n *) where, n indicates the duration of the pause in seconds. C.3 CLASSIFICATION OF RECORDED ANNOUNCEMENTS Recorded Announcements in C-DOT DSS MAX can be classified into four categories : Called Subscriber Related These recorded announcements are fed to the calling subscriber and pertain to the called subscriber number and his line. Calling Subscriber Related These recorded announcements are also fed to the calling subscriber and relate to his own number. Exchange Related These recorded announcements are fed to the calling subscriber and pertain to his local exchange (i.e. status of the exchange, etc.). These announcements are currently not available in C-DOT DSS MAX. C.4 Text of the Announcements All announcements are fed for 45 seconds after which the calling line is put under line lockout state (LLO). Each announcement is 15 seconds long. Announcements in English as well as in regional languages are covered in 15 seconds and are fed alternatingly. The description of all the announcements presently used in C-DOT DSS MAX is given the following paragraphs. Only the English version of the announcements is given and equivalent regional language text can be derived by translation. Called Subscriber Related 1.
