Working with Cached views is near real-time Updates are readily available when I need them Batch processes can update WiP states in a managed manner So we would argue no, it is generally not a problem! 10 Controlling Caching in SS6 Inconsistent Visible Edges Settings between contexts will result in recalculation of the caches, e.g. if print settings are different to reference display settings. To make your Visible Edges Settings consistent across all three contexts, we have new configuration variables: MS_VISEDGE_DEFAULTS pre-sets all of the visible edge options, but also allows the user modify them in the interface when needed Bentley Systems, Incorporated

11 Controlling Caching in SS6 Where needed individual settings can be pre-set for each context (note that MS_VISEDGE_DEFAULTS settings will override these): MS_CVE_VISEDGE_OVERRIDES controls the Cached Visible Edge (CVE) generation for display. MS_PLOT_VISEDGE_OVERRIDES controls the plotting visible edge filtering. MS_EVE_VISEDGE_OVERRIDES controls Export Visible Edge and reference file merge processing Bentley Systems, Incorporated

17 Best Practices Synchronizing a cache retains the state of hidden cached elements. So if you Hide Cached elements only use synchronize. Don t use the reference dialog to switch between Cached and Dynamic, the hidden states will be lost Bentley Systems, Incorporated

18 Best Practices Cache a dynamic view once it take more than a few seconds to open a drawing Cache all drawings on projects with double curved geometry Create Batch Processes for caching all models and for Synchronizing caches If possible set up a machine solely for this process and have it synchronize the caches on a regular basis Run batch processes out of hours to save licences Bentley Systems, Incorporated
