2 Benefits KeyCreator 2012 V11.3 is an important update addressing performance issues with drawing view creation. The release also provides interoperability updates, a dozen small enhancements in KeyCreator and the Analysis and Compare extensions, and corrects over 150 issues since the service pack. Users of V11.0 are strongly encouraged to install this update. KeyCreator V11.3 features - Fresh install with default settings - Installs to new folder, does not interfere with V11.0 installs - CKD files are 100% compatible between 11.0 and 11.3 Control Greater control supports time savings by allowing users to accomplish their desired results with fewer steps. KeyCreator V11.3 includes several minor improvements to existing functions to increase user control. - View Instance properties now offer a third Hidden Line Rendering method to provide users more control over the performance vs. quality when generating and updating drawing views. Three Hidden Line Rendering options are available when creating or editing drawing views 2

3 Hidden Line Rendering This facet-based option was formerly called HOOPS Hidden Line Rendering and provides a good result with most parts but in some cases does not handle overlapping edges and line attributes properly. Precise Hidden Line Rendering [default] This face-based option was formerly called Advanced Precise Hidden Line Rendering and in most cases provides an improved result over the base Hidden Line Rendering option. This option is recommended for best performance and overall quality. Advanced Precise Hidden Line Rendering This new face-based option was introduced in KeyCreator 2012 and provides an improved result over the Precise Hidden Line Rendering option for complex overlapping spline faces at the expense of longer processing times on most parts. - Dynamic Array Function Improvements Added option to Position method for continuous selection of DynaHandle positions at which to locate copies. 3

4 New Add and Remove options in Position Array menu support changing the set of DynaHandles defined for the operation. New Conversation Bar menu for the Position (Pos) option of Transform>Dynamic Array Added chain selection menu (Curve or Circuit) for Along/AlongN Array methods to automate the selection of a valid chain of entities or edges to define the path. Chain Selection Menu added to the Along/AlongN options of Transform>Dynamic Array - The View icons/hotkeys include new options for C-Plane synchronization. The one option provides the ability to switch the active construction plane to match the view when switching to an orthometric view (1 Top, 2 Front, 5 Right, etc.). This is a helpful shortcut when the intent is to create a planar sketch in the new view. A separate option sets the active construction plane to 1 (top/world view) when switching the view to an axonometric view (7 Isometric or 8 Axonometric). - The View icons/hotkeys include new options for changing the line width setting. When switching the view to an orthometric view the user has the option to set line width to 3. Thickening the line width for improved visibility is a helpful shortcut when the intent is to create a planar sketch in the new view. A separate option sets the line width to 1 when switching the view to an axonometric view. Interoperability The leading direct modeling capabilities of KeyCreator support dramatic time savings when working with models created by others. To facilitate the re-use of models created in other CAD software; Kubotek is constantly updating the extensive import capabilities of KeyCreator. The 2012 release V11.3 of KeyCreator features several significant interoperability improvements. - ACIS SAT/SAB Import and Export enhanced to support R23 version files - Parasolid X_T/X_B Import and Export enhanced to support version 25 files - PTC (Pro/E) part and assembly import support extended to Creo 2.0* *requires KeyCreator license extended beyond base (B level) 4

5 - IGES import has a new option Merge Redundant Faces and Edges. This option is on by default to help clean up imported geometry and reduce model size but can be disabled if the split faces are useful for working with the imported geometry. - Cleaning options in the Clean Entities function have been expanded to correct errors in four additional entity types; Crosshatch, View Instances, Centerlines, and Base Linear Dimensions. Cleanable entity errors most offer occur during translation between file formats (DWG, etc.) and involve wildly incorrect numbers in the entities data structure. 6 Setup Added settings options allow users to configure function output to match their styles and preferences. - View icons/hotkeys options for autoscaling, and C-Plane synchronization and managing line width for sketching/modeling can be set to match user preference and saved in template (CKT) or CKD seed files. The View Change Settings dialog is accessed using the Alt+= hotkey in the standard keyboard. - The View Button Set dialog is also available from Tools>Customize>Commands>Immed KXL 1. 6

7 Bonus Tools KeyCreator includes numerous extra utility CDEs and KXL programs improve productivity for special cases or provide alternatives to existing functions. For the V11.3 release several new KXL programs, with full source code, have been provided. - RenderBodies.KXL and UnrenderBodies.KXL These utilities provide users who typically use wireframe mode the capability to quickly select solids to render and one-click revert them back to wireframe display. They provide similar capability as Edit>Entities>Set Entity Rendering and UnSet Entity Rendering functions with fewer mouse clicks. These two new KXL programs are registered with KeyCreator upon install and include icons for placement in custom toolbars. The icons can be found under Tools>Customize>Commands>Immed KXL 1. - Recycle.KXL The Recycle utility provides an alternative to deletion of entities. Each Recycle operation moves entities to a unique new non-displayed sublevel under a Recycle base level. These entities can be restored by simply moving them back to a normal level. This KXL program is a replacement for the former Recycler.KXL (KeyCreator 5-9), is registered with KeyCreator upon install, and includes an icon for placement in custom toolbars. The icon can be found under Tools>Customize>Commands>Root KXL 1. - SetNameToID.KXL The SetNameToID utility program changes the name of all displayed faces and bodies to their corresponding ID number. The name will appear in the selection ToolTip making locating specific faces easier. This new KXL program includes an icon for placement in custom toolbars. It is not registered during install but can be loaded from the KXL\ Utility folder. 7

8 - MoveIDtoALev.KXL The MoveIDtoALev utility quickly isolates entities based on a user typed ID number and moves it to the active level. This is especially useful for finding entities reported as bad by an error checking function. MoveIDtoALev.KXL can be loaded from the KXL\Utility folder. - UpdateFields.KXL The UpdateFields utility forces an update to display the current value of each field in all KeyCreator note entities which include Field codes. UpdateFields.KXL can be loaded from the KXL\Utility folder. The Field Codes menu - OneClickPrint.KXL The OneClickPrint utility function sends the active viewport to the default printer using all printing default settings configured in KeyCreator. OneClickPrint.KXL can be loaded from the KXL\Utility folder. - NewBackgroundColors.KXL and NewPaletteColors.KXL These two utility programs allow users to change the color properties of the active KeyCreator part to match the settings of the default template file. This is helpful for updating older CKD files to match with new files. The NewBackgroundColors program specifically sets all 19 color settings on the File>Properties>Display Colors page. The NewPaletteColors program sets the 64 colors in the palette on the File>Properties>Entity Attributes page. NewBackgroundColors.KXL and NewPaletteColors.KXL can be loaded from the KXL\Utility folder. 8

9 Analysis KeyCreator Analysis was introduced in KeyCreator 2012 V11.0 providing a fully embedded FEA setup and solving option. For the 11.3 release, all levels of KeyCreator Analysis have been extended with 2D mesh options for more efficient handling of models whose symmetry allows simplification to a 2D case. - 2D Plane Strain handles cross-sections of long parts with no axial deflection (bridge, pipe, etc.) - 2D Plane Stress handles uniform thickness models with loads limited to a single plane - 2D Axisymmetric handles cross-sections rotated around a single axis (o-ring, grommet, pint glass, etc.) Compare The KeyCreator Compare module accurately tests the equivalence of two CAD models to user specified tolerances. - The Examine View Window function has been redesigned to synchronize the display of the model between the Examine View Window and both part viewports for improved visualization of model differences and simplified function interface. All standard KeyCreator 3D navigation functions simply work in any of these three windows and update the other two.
